migrating Samba PDC to a new server
Hi, I'd like to migrate Samba 3.0.24-6etch10 PDC running on a Debian server to a new Ubuntu server. I plan to install Samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4 on the new server and then copy the files in /etc/samba and /var/lib/samba and copy the related Linux users in /etc/passwd and /etc/shadow. Will it work? Thanks in advance! ----- -- Kent Tong Wicket tutorials freely available at

Hi. Today I upgraded samba from 3.0.34 to 3.4.4 without changing anything in smb.conf but with changing local and domain sid: old samba 1) net getdomainsid and getlocalsid new samba 2) net setdomainsid and setlocalsid to ones (both the same) from 1) after restarting samba I can't log into domain: XP says : domain controller unavailable ... I tried to rejoin domain - and I can ;) however

Unix User found. Rid marked as special and sid (S-1-22-1-12658) saved

Pretty HTML reporting for stories
Hi all, I''m just getting to grips with rspec, and I''m trying to put together a showy demo. We''re trying to use the (plain text) stories feature, rather than the specs. I''d like to show off a fancy HTML report of the results if possible. So it seems I can do this from the spec command line tool, but I can''t make it work for a story. I''ve got

Samba4 machine fails to join in samba3 domain
Louis is right, you should upgrade, but, in the meantime, try adding 'ntlm auth = yes' to your smb.conf, see if that helps. > > Also try running the following commands: > > net getlocalsid > > net getdomainsid > > Rowland > Yes they should upgrade, I totally agree. I've allready migrated samba3 domain to samba4 domain , but in this case the samba4 one is

Ported openssh-2.9p2 to LynxOS
Hi, I have ported the portable version of openssh (openssh-2.9p2) to LynxOS. I have had to install Perl5 and openssl-0.9.5a. Also since the regex library in LynxOS is not POSIX compliant I had to use PCRE. Then I configured openssh-2.9p2 with the library option -lbsd. One more problem was the macro "howmany(x,y)" is not defined in any of the /usr/include header files n LynxOS. So I

Batch-Tagging oggs?
Hello all. Quick question ('Cause I'm famished and have to get something to eat) If I have a batch of files (wave and/or ogg) with a certain naming scheme. Would it be possible for me to write a small nifty (newbie) dos-batch program that could tag those ogg-files (or encode the waves with tags) with regards to the namin parameters. Let me clarify. I usually encode waves with the

Kerberos for authentication?
Greetings! Are there any plans of using Kerberos for authentication in addition to (or in place of) SSL certificates in Puppet? Kerberos provides mutual, cryptographically strong authentication. A number of different services are Kerberos-enabled (SSH, NFSv4 and HTTP are common examples), and thus use the same authentication mechanism system-wide. At our site, almost all services and users are

PDC -> BDC Question
Hi Everyone, I was wondering I am setting up a BDC at another physically separate location on a different subnet, and I am currently working on what files I need to have copied between the computers and which need to be made on each server. The specific question I am dealing with is what TDB files I need to replicate filesystems between the two servers. Below is a list of what the files I

Arrggg Samba is not behaving
Dear all, A while ago I posted a message regading the way Samba is behaving and some problems that I was facing with Windows "loosing" the connection with the server... Here is another sample of what my /var/log/messages still looks like: Sep 19 15:08:01 Srv smbd-classic[3499]: [2004/09/19 15:08:01, 0] lib/util_sock.c:read_data(436) Sep 19 15:08:01 Srv smbd-classic[3499]:

Rails 4.1.0.beta1
Hohoho, it''s Xmas time, kids! We have a beta full of goodies for everyone who''s been nice this year. Rails 4.1 is packed to the gills with more marvelous real-world feature extractions, bug fixes, and the tireless polish only a community full of Rails elves could bestow it with. While this is just a beta release, it''s arguably a lot better tested and ready than
