Now i have setup a linux client with pam-winbind and nss-winbind. getent passwd <username> show /home/users/<username> as home directory. And that's dir is create on login. Why it is use the path set on AD and not the path set in smb.conf ? grep home -r /etc/pam.d/ /etc/samba/smb.conf

ssh login through AD solution
Thanks to Anthony Ciarochi at Centeris for this solution. I have a Centos (Red Hat-based) server that is now accessible to AD users AND local users via ssh. I can control which AD groups can login using the syntax below. Red Hat-based distros use "pam_stack" in pam.d which is quite different than Debian's "include" based pam.d, cat /etc/pam.d/sshd #

Can,t get pam_mkhomedir to work...
On a ldap enabled CentOS 6.3 x64 system, I try to make it so home directories are auto-created. I added this : session required pam_mkhomedir.so skel=/etc/skel/ umask=0077 to my /etc/pam.d/system-auth And it does nothing. I restarted messagebus (I've seen references to that) and sshd, and logs don't mention anything in regards to pam_mkhomedir... Any hints ?

AD home drive
2 things. Hai, Change [homes] to [users] and create the folder /home/LIN AD-DC's dont like [homes] Share /home/LIN as [users] Now, in the AD DC smb.conf, the templates settings are used by default. template homedir = /home/%D/%U Which results in your case to : /home/LIN/testhome2 That should do it, but rethink this part of you setup. You might need to change the pam part a bit, but

Using winbind authentication with Windows 2003 AD - SSH login failures
Hi all, I have been trying to setup authentication of users on a Linux server against Windows server 2003 using winbind. I am at the point where an su - ADUSERNAME works, but sshing as that user still doesn't work. When I try to ssh as an AD user as follows: ssh -l "RILINUX+testuser" server.domain.com I get the following output in /var/log/messages: server pam_winbind[5906]:

Linux offline logon
We have our linux servers setup to authenticate against Windows AD using idmap config DOMAIN: backend = RID When a domain user logins to the system, all works fine, if its their first time loggin in then their home directory is created, and by using RID backend, all UIDs are consistent across all Linux servers. If we stop winbind, processes running under the username no longer show username, but

am I the only one that pam_mkhomedir+samba makes machine folders for?...was RE: pam_mkhomdir.so is creating machine folders when usedwithsamba
I see a ton of past archive mails for pam_mkhomedir.so, but I don't see anyone else with my problem. Do others just not care that a bunch of extra folders with the machine names are getting created, or is it not happening for anyone else, and I have just done something wrong? CentOS5 pam_mkhomedir
I have a problem creating homedirs on the fly. Since RHEL5 / CentOS5 you have to use pam_oddjob_mkhomedir instead of pam_mkhomedir. Everything is working (the homedir is created) but two things. First on every logon I get the following error message, and I don't know how to fix it: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name com.redhat.oddjob was not provided by any .service files

Dovecot & pam_mkhomedir
Hi there, Does anyone have Dovecot working correctly with pam_mkhomedir, please? I seem to be going through quite a number of IMAP servers this week, trying to find one that will not only authenticate against a Windows domain but which will also create home directories for users the first time they log in. I'm using winbind to do the authentication & that seems to be doing the trick
