Problems with Windows 2003 connecting a Samba server
Hi list,
I am encountering a problem in connecting a Windows 2003 to a Samba
3.0.21b server. The Samba server is configured to have a security =
share option, so that no password is needed. I can connect to the
server by typing "net use z: \\192.168.51.1\data", and it is
successful. However, if I try to do "dir z:", no file found! Same
behaviour are found in Windows

OS X slow with Samba server
I have an Apple iBook running OS X 10.2 connected to my network via an
802.11b wireless network. When I transfer files via SMB with my Windows
2000 computer, the speed seems reasonable. However, when I connect to a
share on my Debian (x86) box (kernel 2.4.19) running Samba 2.2.3a-12 for
Debian, the speed is only about a sixth as fast (transferring files to
or from the Win2k box is about 6

I have setup samba server on my linux box (Fedora Core 4 with latest
samba, just updated via RHN) and has configured file sharing via samba
for this server and connecting to it from my windows xp box. So far,
everything works fine and it is very fast.
Then, I configured a printer, and shared it via samba. And, I can
see+connect to it from Windows XP and can even print. But, everything

OS/2 client crash on "Find Close2"
Hello,
I have just migrated an old OS/2 file server to a Linux box with Samba
3.0.23a. Now the OS/2 clients crash from time to time. I found a way to
reproduce/force the crash using PMMail and did some experiments.
The popuplog.os2 on the clients (Warp4 and eComStation) always names a

Suspicious activity on domain
Hello,
Last week I have detected with Zabbix that a member of my Samba domain
had been downloading at a rate of around 8 Mbps for two days and a half.
When asking the person to whom belonged the machine, he didn't know he
was downloading anything but he said he had observed his machine had
slowed down since then. I took a tcpdump of the traffic before
terminating his session on Windows

RPC error logging in to PDC on Win-64
I've upgraded one of my client boxes to Windows 64 bit edition but now it cannot login to the Samba PDC, instead it gives a RPC error after entering the password. The Win32 boxes can still login fine.
I can get accounts without admin rights to login but those with the rights are given a message stating "The system cannot log you on due to the following error:

access denied with samba share
Hello Samba group,
Problem:
I cannot get samba share to grant access to my /shared
share. I created it, gave the linux user permissions
and tested them, my Windows XP Pro sees the share, I
can map a drive to it, but I cannot change to it:
Access denied is the error I get. I'm logged into
Windows XP as the same user ID and password as on the
Linux system.

STATUS_INVALID_PARAMETER for printer trying to connect to smb share
I have a kyocera TA-205C printer that is can scan to pdf and place the file
on a smb share.
I have a user on my domain (PCEDOM\printers) that can login and access the
share. I tested it out with smbclient and was able to create a file where
the printer is supposed to be able to put the file.
The printer gave a very unhelpful error message, so I did a packet capture
to find the error. (see

samba server does not appear in network neighborhood
Hi all,
I've recently setup samba 2.2.5 on a solaris 8 workstation and configured it
to be a member of an NT domain. Everything is working correctly, with the
exception that the samba server does not appear in the network neighborhood of
the rest of the PC's in the domain. However, if you choose to "search for
computers" and enter the netbios name of the server it is

I think you missed these in the firewall, if you allowed the "in" for the DC, you also need the OUT.

WinXP slow share access
My WinXP clients are able to map a network drive on my samba server.
However, it takes 30 seconds to do so, and accessing the contents of the
shared drive is also quite slow.
Linux (smbclient) and Windows 2000 clients are able to map the share
instantly, and access files without delay.
I am using Linux 2.4.5, with samba 2.2.3a compiled from source on the
server. The delay is consistent at 30

Slow access when opening shares
Hey,
I have slow access when I first open shares. If I reboot my XP box and then
go to access a share, it takes a good 10 seconds for files to come up, even
after I've typed in my username and password. Once accessed it runs fine and
is fast. But, if I don't access it for 30 minutes, when I access it again it
sits for like 10 good seconds before it does anything. This is very
annoying.

smbmounts hang around after windows client disconnects
Using 2.2.1a and a 2.4 kernel patched for win4lin.
Everything is working but:
I mount all the available network shares on my linux box as root to one
network directory.
If a windows client shuts down while the linux box is still connected, the
share is not removed from my mount list or from /proc/mounts
It cannot be removed with umount. I can kill the smbmount with kill -15 but
the share is still

Replace only Capital Letters
Dear All,
I have these data:
exampledata <- c("This is one item", "This is Another One", "And so is
This")
I would like to find each occurence of a blank space followed by a Capital
Letter and replace it by a blank space, a left curly brace, the respective
Capital Letter, and then a right curly brace.
I thought the following will do:

rake aborted when adding a column
I''m having a silly little problem with migrations. All I''m
trying to do is to add an SSN column to my Employees table. I
generated a migration which looks like:
class AddSsn <

def self.up
add_column :employees,
:ssn,
:string
end
def self.down
remove_column :employees,
:ssn
end
end
When I run this, however, I get:

Samba quota 'feature' fix?
Hey Guys and Gals,
I'm wondering if the quotas.c file is supposed to fix the problem where a
Linux x86 system running with the quota software causes corrupt files to be
written by Windows clients. I compiled it in and it didn't seem to make a
difference for the following problem.
In other words, if I enable quotas on my RH6.2 / 2.2.16-22 kernel box and
then write a file via Samba/Windows
