File Locked
Hi,
I've got a Word document on a Samba share that I can't rename, overwrite or open. Attempting to rename it gives: Cannot rename Filename: There has been a sharing violation.
Attempting to open it gives: Filename.doc is locked for editing by 'another user'.
This is on a NAS box so I can't say which Samba version it is.
There are no temporary files in the share to show who

Samba and Win98
I have a friend that had a samba server go down. They switched to another
server and are having problems with people logging into it from Windows
98. If the same user logs in from WinXp then everything works otherwise
they get an error. He also said that the smb.conf files were the same on
both servers.
>From the errors it almost looks like some sort of permission problem, but

Need help getting roaming profiles to work
Hi!
First, let me apologize for the length of this message. I wanted to
include as much relevant info as I could and it got a bit lengthy.
For reasons that I won't bother to detail here, I ended up
volunteering to upgrade the server at my kids school. It's a small
private school with an all-volunteer tech support staff (me!). We
currently have about 40 computers serving about 150 people.

OpenLDAP integration
I've followed the OpenLDAP + SAMBA Domain Controller tutorial
step-by-step: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=640760
And after long hours, and enless googling, I've yet to find a solution.
LDAP works great
SAMBA works great.
But the intergration between them don't work.
Here is the samba log:
root:/etc# tail /var/log/samba/log.smbd
smbd version 3.0.28a started.

How can I remove these log entries 'Failed to create Users' and 'Failed to create Administrators'
Hi,
I have a very small setup, one XP/clinet and one Vista/client and a Ubuntu/samba server.
I like to cleanup my log.smbd but I can't figure out how!
I have everything up and running and I can access the share's from the XP client.
I googled around and it seems that I should bind some Windows group/user against Unix group/users
with something like 'net groupmap add rid=2512

Strange Samba permissions
Hi,
I am really stuggeling with Samba, searched forums and checked tutorials, so far with no success. So you are my last resort and probably the first place I should have checked, but I am completly new to mail groups, so please be patient with me.
Users can log in to the Samba PDC domain successfully and get the login script executed just fine.
But:

confusing samba log entries
Hello,
I'm having some trouble using Samba to backup my PC with Lenovo's Rescue and Restore. In the course of analysing potential causes of the problem, I noticed in my Samba server's log (pertaining to my client PC) several "can't do this" or "can't do that" messages. Specifically, here are the messages that appear constantly:

Problem with Centos 5.3 + Samba 3.0.33 +AD (2k3)
Hi everyone,
I have an issue with Samba agains Active Directory.
The authentication works just fine but when it comes to shares I've ran into
some problems.
If I use any group mapping from the AD it won't let me access it so I figure
that is where the problem lays.
If I comment out "valid users", "force user" and "force group" then I have
no problems and it

Users not able to change password
Hi list,
My brand new samba network is working pretty good, ironing out some
glitches.
Win XP users cannot change their password.
I use SaMBa as a domain-controller with an LDAP backend.
A stripped down version of the config is below.
I set minimum password length to 8, trying to change the password to a 7
char long gives me the messages that the password does not meet
requirements. So that

Access denied to shares samba 3
Hi,
I have samba-3.0.23d-1tr on a trustix 3.0 system.
This samba was joined to a win 2k3 domain and it works perfect for lot of
months.
Now I can access only to tmp share, and samba server is very slow to expose
all shares.
If I launch wbinfo -u or wbinfo -g, I still see the users/group from win2k3
server,
but in the log of my winxp client (whose name is Euro15), I see:

FFT - (STATS) - is this correct?
Hello,
I have calculated the fourier transform of the series enclosed at the end of this message, by doing:
library(stats)
x <- readLines("file1.txt")
x.num <- as.numeric(x)
ft.x.num <- fft(x.num)
My question is: why is the first value (Real) of ft.x.num that big? (954.833870) all the other values are much smaller. Am I doing something wrong?
Could you please help me to

samba fails to start.
After a hiccup or two with Samba not wanting to restart, I opted to
look for a pid/lock file and found none.
Tried to correct by restarting the server and had no success with
samba restarting.
There are no errors in smbd.log
I did apt-get upgrade. No help
I did apt-get remove samba, samba and swat went away.
I did note that the XXXX pid was not found during install when samba
was to be killed.
