IBM GPFS filesystem
Hi all,
I was wondering if anyone might be able to speak about using IBM's GPFS
filesystem as a means of storing virtual guests in a clustered environment
with CentOS as the nodes and KVM as the hypervisor?
I'm looking at using IBM's TSM software for archiving data from disk to
tape. This requires buying a license for GPFS which is used in conjunction
with TSM but can also be used

GPFS AFM Export Problem
Hi All,
I'm having a frustrating time exporting a GPFS Independent Writer AFM fileset through Samba.
Native GPFS directories exported through Samba seem to work properly, but when creating an export which points to an AFM IW fileset, I get "Access Denied" errors when trying to create files from an SMB client and even more unusual "Failed to enumerate objects in the container:

getent not listing ADS users ctdb samba
Hi,
I am setting up ctdb samba, and have hit a brick wall trying to solve the
following issue.
1. getent does not retrieve the list of domain users or groups (wbinfo
works fine)
I'm not sure what I'm missing but I've almost spent the whole day trying to
resolve this one and haven't made any progress :-(
Any help or suggestions are appreciated

HSM
Hmm, don't you just love changing terminology! I've been using HSM
systems at work since '99. BTW, DMAPI is the Data Management API which
was a common(ish) extension used by amongst others SGI and IBM.
Back to lvmcache. It looks interesting. I'd earlier dismissed LVM
since it is block orientated, not file orientated. Probably because my
mental image is of files migrating to

GPFS and Windows file attributes
I was reviewing the GPFS VFS module this afternoon after I had a request
to add Thumbs.db to the hide files option.
Now I was under the impression that the GPFS VFS module mapped this
through to the Windows attributes on the under lying file system. That
is assuming that your GPFS file system is sufficiently recent to support
Windows attributes.
I did some experimentations with a Terminal

HSM
I think there may be some confusion here. By HSM I was referring to
Hierarchical Storage Management, whereby there are multiple levels of
storage (fast+expensive <-> slow+cheap) and files migrate up or down.
Originally it was used to keep data on tape with the metadata residing
on disk though it has been expanded to allow a SAS/SATA hierarchy. Quite
where PKI comes in I'm not sure,

ZFS and HSM
I said I had several questions to start threads on....
What about ZFS and various HSM solutions? Do any of them already work
with ZFS? Are any going to? It seems like HSM solutions that access
things at a file level would have little trouble integrating with ZFS.
But ones that work at a block level would have a harder time.
On that same thread, what about support for DMAPI within ZFS?

dmapi doesn't work on aix; possible fix included
I'm running samba 3.0.23c on aix 5.3 TL4. I'm using Tivoli HSM 5.3.4.0
on a JFS2 filesystem. Samba compiled fine, and I set "dmapi support =
yes" in smb.conf, but samba wouldn't recognize offline files ("migrated
files" in tsm terminology). After setting a higher log level I think
I've tracked down the problem. The patch is at the bottom of this email.

HSM
Purely from interest, is there any current FOSS implementation of HSM?
I note that XFS has dropped support for DMAPI, have other filesystems?
Regards,
Martin

Dovecot HSM
Hi.
I'm looking for a tutorial/how-to for a HSM (Hierarchical /Storage/
Management). keeping old messages for a user in a cheap storage and
recent messages in a faster one.
I see on dovecot2 wiki an alternative for hsm as "Alternate storage",
but I don't now if it's a good solution for me.
The expected result is a faster imap/pop access for new messages on a

tdb samba and NTFS ACL Support
Hi -
i was wondering how a ctdb samba (or IBM SOFS) solution provides full NTFS
ACLs support?
- Is there a specific vfs module which must be loaded? etc...
I am in the process of designing a very large fileserver within an Active
directory domain.
I have seen a SOFS presentation on the web and was wondering if the ctdb
samba & gpfs
approach would be an reasonable solution?

Patch for GPFS support
Hi all
My apologies for dragging up a very old mail from the depths of the
rsync archives:
http://lists.samba.org/archive/rsync/2008-October/021963.html
I'm trying to use Ronnie's patch to get rsync to copy my GPFS NFSv4
ACLs. I'm having trouble building Ronnie's gpfs.c though - it turns out
my programming isn't up to a challenge greater than "configure; make"!

cannot set gpfs:sharemodes to yes
Hi,
I'm trying to set up samba share exporting gpfs filesystem and I strugle
with setting sharemode to yes. Samba is 3.6.5, gpfs version is 3.2.1-29
(the latest available for 3.2 branch). Everything works fine when sharemode
is set to no, but I'd rather insist to switch it to yes. That's what man
page says:
no - do not propagate sharemodes across all GPFS nodes. This should only

Bug vfs module gpfs:winattrs ?
Hello,
does this bug still exists: http://web.archiveorange.com/archive/v/IPyW4fzzpEetiWKnJyfJ ?
It seems that I have the same problem, although "store dos attributes" is set (Samba 3.6.18; GPFS 3.5.0-11).

"No previous versions" - GPFS 3.5 and shadow_copy2
Hi all,
At some point recently my customers can no longer see GPFS snapshots under the Windows Previous Versions tab. It simply says "No previous versions available". If a fileset is exported with the flag "force user = root" then Previous Versions *are* displayed.

ACLs on a directory on GPFS
Hello,
I am using the vfs_gpfs samba module to map ACLs through samba. It works
fine on files, but directory ACLs are ignored. Ex:
getfacl /sb/share/myplace/
file: sb/share/myplace/
owner: root
group: root
user::rwx
user:afrankel:rwx
group::---
mask::rwx
other::---
When I try to access this folder in Windows, I get permission denied.
The same permissions on a files, I can open it / modify it

Samba 3.0.28 with VFS-Module "GPFS"
Hi Rob,
on your Info for Version 3.0.25 you pointed out the VFS-Module GPFS for
using features of the underlaying GPFS-Filesystem.
Also the man-pages-3/vfs_gpfs.8.html points to that module, but I can't
find it anywhere.
We are using a GPFS 3.2 3-Node Samba Cluster (3.0.24/28) on Dell HW.
We would be very glad if it is posible to get

Patch for GPFS support
List,
We, IBM, have developed a patch that enhances RSYNC.
This patch provides extensions to RSYNC to map to and use filesystem
extensions present in the IBM GPFS cluster filesystem.
(GPFS is a cluster filesystem for Linux and AIX that provides additional
attributes such as NFSv4 ACLs, extended attributes and windows attributes
in addition to the common posix permissions)
This will greatly
