winbind, ads, win2k3, trusted domains, user mapping
I have been ready everything I can regarding this setup but am having a
problem that I am unsure of.
I am unable to authenticate any user despite the following commands working:
%> getent passwd <username>
%> wbinfo -u
%> wbinfo -g
With the getent passwd I am able to see all of my UID/GID being mapped
via winbdind to the rid of the domain user account.
This command fails:

User Authentication and Username Map
Hi to all..
I've setup a Samba domain and now having a hard time setting up Unix to
Windows user mapping. As an example on the server, user is 'agi', and at the
workstation I want an 'Alec Joseph' as the user name. If I log on from a
Linux desktop using the alias connection goes through:
# sudo tail -f /usr/local/samba/var/log.smbd | grep 'Alec Joseph'

Mapped username then gets mapped to "Anonymous"
Hi Everyone,
I have setup a Samba share to work on our local network with a username
map to accommodate Windows XP usernames with spaces, but it seems that
Samba maps the username correctly but then immediately changes it to an
Anonymous request. Am I missing something? Clip from log file:

Samba as Domain Member Server Authentication Problem
I've been working for hours with Samba on Ubuntu Server 9.10 (Samba
version 3.4.0), trying to get it setup simply as a fileserver that
performs authentication to an NT 4 server (yes, I know, old and out of
date).
After much struggling, I finally realized that my configuration *was*
working when the clients connecting (from XP, and Win2k clients, mostly)
were actually joined to the domain

Administrator->root mapping not working on 3.0.10 (3.0.7 fine)
We are using samba 3 on NetBSD with security=domain authenticating against
Windows 2003. We have a username map of "root = administrator". In all
previous versions of samba tested (2.2.x and 3.0.x), this means when we
log on as administrator, we have root access and see the root share. With
3.0.10, we are continually prompted for a password.
Log from 3.0.7 below:

Samba 3.0 question, DOMAIN vs. SERVER method? Help!
Hello all!
We are attempting to get Samba-3.0.10 working on a new Solaris 8 machine in
preparation for upgrading an existing 2.2.8 installation (both use the
SMCsamba packages from SunFreeware.com). We copied over the smb.conf file
and the usermap from the Samba-2 installation, and seeing some weird
symptoms when Windows users try to connect to the new machine.
We ran "net join" to

My production servers are running 3.0.28 and that is working very well.
Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

AD on 2003R2 NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_USER
Dear Help,
We are in the process of setting up a new domain using Active Directory on
Windows Server 2003R2. One of our goals was to use Active Directory for
authentication on our AIX box (running version 6.1). I was able to successfully
set up Kerberos, and the LDAP client to connect to our AD server so that you can
now log in to the AIX box with users found in Active Directory. However, no

PDC with LDAP backend login issue
Hi all,
I'm very close to having a working setup after blundering through a
couple of typing errors that cost me several days of my life, with the
following config:
Samba 3.0.14a as a PDC
Suse 9.2 Professional
LDAP (eDirectory 8.7.3) passwd backend
Idealx scripts
Windows XP SP1
I can connect to any of the samba shares just fine using any of the
users I've created, from XP and from linux

Non-domain MFPs cannot access server
I have a Samba 3.4.7 server with ADS authentication. Windows clients
have no issues, but non-domain MFPs cannot access shares, even with
guest ok = yes.
The MFPs can scan to a Samba 3.2.7 server, configured with Openfiler.
This line is the same on both servers
Got user=[printers] domain=[] workstation=[RNPE96472] len1=24 len2=24
This is what comes next on the working, 3.2.7 server:

Sporadic Homedirs lost
Hi List,
since the upgrade of a LDAP based PDC/BDC system to PDC/BDC and fileserver we
have problems with users sporadic loolsing their homedirs.
These events are unreproducible and only sporadic. Only the homedir not any of
the other shares mounted from the fileserver are subject to this connection
breakoff. The logs seem to suggest the username has been "forgotten" by the
