Patch for SSH-tunneling via HTTPS-proxy
Hi List,
I have a szenario where I need to reach a host on the internet from a
"firewalled" network but there is a HTTPS-proxy runnnig. As some
people know you can tunnel all TCP-connections through this proxy
because it can't decide if someone is really doing SSL or just Telnet
to port 443 (or use SSH in our case).
So I've written a patch for ssh to make it send the

dmapi doesn't work on aix; possible fix included
I'm running samba 3.0.23c on aix 5.3 TL4. I'm using Tivoli HSM 5.3.4.0
on a JFS2 filesystem. Samba compiled fine, and I set "dmapi support =
yes" in smb.conf, but samba wouldn't recognize offline files ("migrated
files" in tsm terminology). After setting a higher log level I think
I've tracked down the problem. The patch is at the bottom of this email.

Snowfall: "cannont open connection " problem
Dear R-listers,
I have been using Snowfall (version 1.84) for parallel computing on a quad-PC running Windows 7 for a month or so without much problem. I started having problems runnnig R with Snowfall over our network when a new Novell client was installed for Windows 7. I experinenced network mapping problem with this new client. Our network colleague provided a fix which worked but a little

Small correction in CentOSPlus (AdditionalResources/Repositories/CentOSPlus)
Hi,
Small correction there.
Example 4 of section 2 (how to use XFS with CentOSPlus kernel) says
you should use this configuration line in [centosplus] section of yum:
includepkgs=kernel* xfs* dmapi*
However, the XFS module's package name is kmod-xfs*, so I believe it
should actually be:
includepkgs=kernel* kmod-xfs* xfs* dmapi*
I did this on a system of mine, and in the first case it did

cutting corners (4.10.2 on el7.6)
Hi,
I don't think any of those matter for your use.
An older version of GnuTLS means we likely just use internally
implemented functions (which we are trying to deprecate though). I don't
know exactly what DMAPI is used for, but it's not a default
configuration and file server clustering doesn't have any relevance for
just an AD DC.
Cheers,
Garming

Using SMB_VFS_IS_OFFLINE for directories.
I made a small change to source3/smbd/dosmode.c to let my plugin on my
linux box return FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE for directories, and so far
Windows (2008) seems okay with it. It displays the folder icon with the
"X" over it and it navigates the folder hierarchy without trouble (so far).
I can see that the SMB_VFS_IS_OFFLINE code went in originally for DMAPI
support (Bokovoy, Jan

Setting (exposing) FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE for a share
Hi all,
Back in 2002 I opened a discussion on the samba-technical mailing list
regarding the WinNT FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE (
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba-technical/2002-April/020969.html).
Meanwhile some FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE handling was implemented in the
'trunk' Samba. Currently (Samba 3.0.28a-1ubuntu4.4) provides the 'dmapi
support' option for representing the

cutting corners (4.10.2 on el7.6)
Hi Garming,
Thanks for taking the time to enlighten me. I do happen to have two DC's
and in my limited testing, 4.10.2 seems to function properly as an AD/DC
on el7.6 with the packages I built. As I'm not using those DC's for file
serving in a clustered setup, it is also my interpretation that I can do
without ctdb (this one had a specific requirement for a higher version of

cutting corners (4.10.2 on el7.6)
Hi All,
I'm not well versed in the samba code base so I'm asking here.. :)
I only wanted to run a small AD/DC for my SOHO (1 spouse, 3 kids, 1 dog & 1 cat).
I've managed to build 4.10.2 on rhel7.6 with gnutls-3.3.29 and python-2.7.
(this required an updated cmocka, which in turn required an updated cmake)
but...
building without testsuite and without clustering (ctdb) allows

smbmount and PCShare [Helios]
I tried to mount a PCShare file system with smbmount and was
surprised to see that there is a problem while writing files to the
mounted file system. I can read everything and move things an
make directories within the shared file system. But if I try to copy
a file from the local disk (LINUX SuSE 8.1) to the shared file
system I get an I/O error. I suppose that this is not a permission

Samba 4.8 RODC not working
Hi Rowland,
I have no homes share. As far as I know I should not have that share on a DC ..?
Regarding the security consideration for a DMZ zone, what do you suggest instead of putting a RODC in it ?
Note : Yes I can ping DC, there is no routing / firewalling issue (validated).
Thanks

HSM
Hmm, don't you just love changing terminology! I've been using HSM
systems at work since '99. BTW, DMAPI is the Data Management API which
was a common(ish) extension used by amongst others SGI and IBM.
Back to lvmcache. It looks interesting. I'd earlier dismissed LVM
since it is block orientated, not file orientated. Probably because my
mental image is of files migrating to

smbpasswd port 139
I have a network where the domain controllers do not connect on port 139
Is there a way to have smbpasswd change the password without this?
I am able to change the password using an ldap method in php
ldap_connect
ldap_bind
ldap_modify_batch
full source code here
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=313554
however this does not allow the password to be set if it has expired.
