[OT] External RAID storage / NAS
Hello List,
I need storage for my home network - lots of storage. It's going to
hold pictures, home movies, music, other bits of data, etc.
I'm looking to start at about 500 GB, but I'd need to eventually grow
that to 1 TB, or more. I also want something that is quiet, has hot
swappable drives (not necessary, but a plus), is fairly easy to manage,
and
can be directly attached to

Nonfunctional linux/CIFS mounts after update (ADS / windows DC auth)
I have been running in loglevel 10 and looking at the logs, but as I said
in my initial post the credentials function fine with nautilus. Appended is
a connection log snippet where samba walks through a cascade of
authentication methods and finally fails.
Earlier in the log, samba successfully determines which domain controller
to talk to and pulls its information. However, just before the

howto forbid chown on cifs mount
Hello list,
I'm trying to get around old samba-users problem with common share used
by many people. What I would like to achieve is to get all files in that
share to belong to specific group.
I was already trying the 'chmod g+s' way, but its not what I'm looking
for, as this sets specific group only for newly created files and still
gives possibility to change it later on (and it

Trouble with mount.cifs while smbclient works (Ubuntu 12.04)
I just upgraded from Ubuntu 11.04 to 12.04 and am working to restore access to the windows shares I use at work.
smbclient connects immediately:
sudo smbclient //server/share -A /etc/.smb_creds.txt
mount.cifs fails (with "mount error(13): Permission denied"):
sudo mount.cifs //server/share /mnt/ -o credentials=/etc/.smb_creds.txt
my credentials file is as

mount.cifs gives error 13 after changing servers -- hidden cache??
A sysadmin moved a share from one Windows server to another. I am now
getting error 13 when trying to mount the share from the new server.
The following worked before the server was replaced:
mount.cifs //ipaddress1/share1$ /mnt/share1 -o
credientials/home/whatever/.smbcredentials,rw
mount.cifs //ipaddress2/share2$ /mnt/share2 -o
credientials/home/whatever/.smbcredentials,ro

Samba 4 moved mount.cifs and umount.cifs to /usr/local/bin/?
I'm trying to work from the Samba 4 source and SRPM's to build a nice
clean Samba package for work, to test some of its features. Overall,
I'm happy with what I see, but the new "autogen.sh" seems to construct
its "source4/configure" script from these "build" tools, and they
entirely ignore the concept of "sbindir" in installing the mount.cifs

Nonfunctional linux/CIFS mounts after update (ADS / windows DC auth)
Greetings,
We use samba to share files to windows and linux machines and are in the
same boat as several others recently posting to the list. When badlock
patches came out, we updated our CentOS7 samba server (everything from
samba to sssd to krb5 to nss was updated) and immediately had problems with
both client types not connecting to the windows shares.
Windows machine connections were solved

Nonfunctional linux/CIFS mounts after update (ADS / windows DC auth)
I think I'm having the exact same issue using sssd. All symptoms described
by Patrick exists in my system except for the .com thing. I haven't tried
it yet. Using ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS, samba 4.3.8-Ubuntu, sssd 1.12.5-1~trusty1

kernel freeze on "umount /initrd" [signed]
Hi,
I'm using initramfs with pivot_root mechanism to mount
my real root directory. I notived the gentoo halt.sh
script tries to unmount everything on shutdown. That
includes /initrd. The kernel seems to freeze immideatly.
Do you have the same problems?
Regards, Andreas

nautilus problem and smbclient question
Hi,
I'm having a problem getting smb to work through Nautilus and in trying to
diagnose the problem, I ended up with another problem with smbclient(1),
or more likely a misunderstanding on my part about how it is supposed to
work. I'm using the following packages on an up2date RH8.0 box.
# rpm -qa | grep samba
samba-common-2.2.7-2
samba-2.2.7-2
samba-client-2.2.7-2

CentOS 5.2 - Nautilus - file types are not associated with an action and icons are not displayed
Hi all,
I use CentOS 5.2 as a desktop and the Gnome Nautilus doesn't display
icons related to the file types and all associated actions ("open with")
are lost. It is so bad, that the desktop shortcuts are displayed as
ordinary files "Filesystem.desktop" or
"openoffice.org-1.9-calc.desktop", and when I click on them, the
Nautilus wants to know what it should
