exporting an FUSE base file system to windows
Hi,
What I wanted to do was to export an FUSE based filesystem mounted
on linux to a windows box using samba.
I can browse and navigate the fuse filesystem without problems
on the linux box. With smbd running I can even navigate the filesystem
using smbclient.
Unfortunately when I try to access the exported file system from WinNT
the mountpoint of the filesystem shows up as a zero size file

Missing files on Windows client side.
In a directory with approximately 6000 files, several files are missing on
the Windows side.
If I check the directory on Unix (AIX) they are all there.
As far as I can see there's nothing strange with this files en I can't see
any connection between the missing files.
It looks like it's randomly.
A few examples of missing files:

Directory listing with 11k files very slow to list
Hello,
I have a samba server which has a directory with 11764 files. (The
program stores information about jobs and each job has 3 files, nothing
I can do about it).
When I do a listing of that directory using smbclient, it takes 15+
seconds to complete, same thing on Windows XP.
Does anyone have any ideas on how I can speed this up?
I did a log on log level 10, it is accessible at

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED
I am new to Samba, but not to Linux. I hope someone here can point me in the
right direction.
I have installed Samba and it appears to be working, at least as far as I have
tested it. However, I have hit a snag in my testing. I have searched Google for
several hours but I have not found a solution.
On a Linux machine (named "annwn") running Fedora Core 6, I have set up a share,

msdfs root -- client error "refers to a location that is unavailable"
I'm trying to get Samba 3.0.28 to work as an MS Dfs root providing a share
that links home directories to the actual servers they reside on.
Unfortunately, when I access the share from a Windows XP client, and try to
open one of the directories, the client gives an error that it "refers to a
location that is unavailable".
I've done a lot of searching, and found a number of

File listing problems in 3.0.13
Over the weekend I upgraded my IRIX servers to 3.0.13 and have found many
strange issues regarding the creation of new folders.
When I attempt to add a new folder through the Windows side I get an immediate
error dialog box stating "You may not be able to access file created in the
folder X:\New Folder."
When I select to continue the folder is created, looking on the IRIX side the

Just spoke to Jerry, we'll be doing
a 3.0.27a on Monday to fix a regression
that broke smbfs mounts from Linux.
Sorry for the problem.

CPU consumption by samba
Hi,
I'm having strange performance problems with samba and an application written
with VisualFox Pro.
This application is entirely installed in a Windows share and it has a hystory
of strange phenomenons.
Initially it ran fast on an old NT server (but that server has been replaced).
It has strange performance problems with Windows 2000 Server: it runs fast
with some servers and slow with

problem with --delete if I sync part of a dir
Hi,
I'm using rsync for a couple of things but I am at a point where I could not find a solution for my problem.
this is what I want to do:
rsync only the files i_* from a directory from machine A to machine Bi and delete them from machine B if they on longer exist on machine A.
so I use the command:
rsync -azv --stats -e ssh --delete i_* user@host:/dir/
When using this command the files

Name mangling bug: was samba bug?
Hi James,
this sounds familiar - I believe I looked at a wire trace,
and windows is dropping the trailing dots BEFORE it sends the
request over the wire. so samba never sees the name foo..., thus
does not create it.

Samba performance question
Hi all,
I am running a samba server (2.0.3) in a small eth-based home network.
There is only one win client (NT workstation, Sp4).
The samba box ist set up with wins support enabled and the NT box?
wins server entry points to samba server. Everything works fine: no
error messages neither server nor client. The server shows up
immediately in the NT?s network neigborhood. Browsing is fast.

File browser doesn't remember last directory over Dfs
Hi,
I have encountered some strange behaviour after upgrading to
3.0.12 on FreeBSD 4.10 file servers.
Normally when users on windows apps use the file browser to select
a file it remembers the selected directory between invocations, so
that, for example, they can easily read in multiple files from
the same directory, or if they click on Save As... it takes
them to the directory where they

Files That Constantly Change
Does anybody have any tuning tips for a samba 3.0.23 server that is
acting as a PDC with ldap backend and file server. The problem I'm
having is a certain program runs in XP workstations that accesses
files on one of the shares, it apparently opens lots of files and is
constantly making changes to them. When I run top, I see each smbd
process for each workstations is consuming about

share is read-only since 3.0.3 - "access is denied"
Hi,
I've a samba-3.0.2a running perfectly on redhat-8.
Filesystem is EXT3 with ACL support.
I can't upgrade the PDC to 3.0.3 or 3.0.4, because shares are only
read-only.
In 3.0.3 only home share and temp share are writable.
All other shares are in read-only mode. Users can see the files/directories,
but can't save anything or create new items.
When trying to create a new item -
