Samba LDAP troubleshooting
Hello I'm hoping someone can provide some insight, sample snippet from smb.conf and the samba log. Password authentication is working & succeeding, complains about an invalid SID which I know is the trust relationship that is formed between server and client, this is a duplicate ldap database from a samba domain controller. On the topic, anyone have a good book to recommend on Samba, I

complete newbie sid problems
Hi, I'm trying to set up samba with ldap authorization on a windows network. I have samba running on one linux host, and openldap on another. I have used smbldap-tools to populate my directory and used smbldap-useradd to create an initial testuser on the samba host. I can ssh in to the samba host as the testuser ok, and get in to the testuser directory (ie. there are no permission

Samba3.5 + OpenLDAP config/install problem
System Summary: centos 6.2 samba 3.5 smbldap-tools 0.9.6 openldap 2.4.23 Hello, I am installing smb 3.5 on a CentOS 6.2 host using smbldap-tools. I've previously installed a similar configuration on RHEL4 using smb 3.0 but CentOS now uses nss-pam-ldapd and nslcd instead of nss_ldap, so the configurations cannot be moved straight across. Currently, when I attempt to connect to an smb share

Best practices for handling very small numbers?
Greetings I have been experimenting with sampling from posterior distributions using R. Assume that I have the following observations from a normal distribution, with an unscaled joint likelihood function: normsamples = rnorm(1000,8,3) joint_likelihood = function(observations, mean, sigma){ return((sigma ^ (-1 * length(observations))) * exp(-0.5 * sum( ((observations - mean ) ^ 2)) / (sigma

SID problem with working samba
hello, i have 1 PDC and 1 BDC using smbldap, and now i'm adding a server (as a domain member, not BDC) that will have shares to be mounted by the clients. this server also uses smbldap and, at this moment, the service is working almost normally. the problem seems to be the typical SID problem, but my new samba reports to have the same SID that the PDC and BDC have, and users can log into

beta1: how to use quota plugin???
Hi, After searching gmane.mail.imap.dovecot on the topic, and wiki.dovecot.org, I'm still clueless on how to use RFC 2087 quotas in dovecot with the quota plugin. How come no wiki doc? My setup: Solaris 9, mbox format. Both the filesystem for INBOXes (/var/mail) and the user's home directories have filesystem-based quotas imposed. For example: % quota -v joeblow Disk quotas for

3.0.2p1: all sshd processes owned by root
Hi, I installed 3.0.2p1 on our Solaris 8 systems this week (new to ssh), and when I look at the process list for sshd, I see: root 14547 1 0 10:35:29 ? 0:00 /opt/openssh/sbin/sshd root 14548 14547 0 10:35:36 ? 0:01 /opt/openssh/sbin/sshd Process 14547 is the deamon listening on port 22, but process 14548 is my connection from elsewhere. I consider it a design

winbind nss info : how does it handle multiple values?
It looks to me like the 'winbind nss info' parameter is designed to be a space-separated list of values. I say this because: 1) i gave it two values, separated by spaces, and testparm(1) did not complain; 2) the man page ( http://www.die.net/doc/linux/man/man5/smb.conf.5.html ) gives an example of two values. Assuming that's true, how do the multiple values work together? Is order

Samba 2.0.7 / AIX 4.3.3 Works as expected currently data path is /home. Using the special "share" of [homes] End users would like the ability to see each other's $HOME i.e. /home/joeblow browseable by all other users on the system or even just the users of the same group. But have write ability restricted to the owner of the directory. In this case joeblow can write/change

Which BUGS should one use?
Hello ALL! Some times ago I started to learn and play with Bayesian stuffs. Many advice use of WinBUGS for Bayesian inference Using Gibbs Sampler. However, WinBUGS is discontinued, and now, development is under OpenBUGS. I wasn't lazy, so I installed both and tried out. In more than 90% of cases they give comparable outcome. But in few cases I got substantial differences. Recently, I read nice

LDAP different Group SID -- not supported for NETLOGON calls
Hello list, I have two Samba-LDAP DC's each in different networks, domain AMECC_SAL (192.168.40.0/24) and domain AMECC_GUA (192.168.42./24). I have established a inter-domain trust relationship in both directions. My problem comes when I try to log into a machine in the AMECC_SAL domain using any user from the AMECC_GUA domain. The machine?s name in which I want to sign in is cc03. The

ssh - NO SALE or NO GIVE ?
Thanks to everyone who has replied to my emails so far - to summarise: AIX allows setting of rlogin=false and and a su group, or a list of users that are permitted to "su" to root. ( or other functional ids ) This means with entries in /etc/ftpusers, it is possible to : 1/ Track who used root via sulog and or external logging 2/ Protect root even if the root password is compromised 3/

3.0.14 to 3.0.23c Invalid SID
Trying to upgrade from 3.0.14a to 3.0.23c. So far, things seem to be working, but the following entries appear in the smbd error log. The test machine is a domain client (server is still 3.0.14). The sids listed are exactly as they appear in the ldap tables. What makes them invalid? Anyone know. [2006/10/19 11:34:10, 1] passdb/pdb_interface.c:pdb_default_uid_to_rid(1227) Could not peek rid
