error: failed reading from tcp: Connection reset by peer
All,
I see the following message fairly frequently in our nsd.log files:
error: failed reading from tcp: Connection reset by peer
A quick grep through the source code reveals that this log message comes
from server.c, and can come pretty much at any time during a TCP query.
Since:
- This condition occurs during normal operation, and
- There is nothing a server operator can do about it.

Asterisk and Linejacks
I found a message from you to the asterisk users mailing list from 2001. I was
wondering if you got (or still have) an asterisk system working with the
linejack? If so, would you be willing to assist me with mine?
I seem to have things working, and * says that caller ID is coming in, but I
can't get * to actually answer the call.
Thanks,
Greg

virt-v2v slow when running inside the VM
Hi,
I'm trying to create a clone of a physical Window VM using p2v.
My goal is to create a cloning tools VM that has libguestfs tools installed
and acts as the convertor.
VM conversion works just fine but the conversion rate is significantly
slow(1/3) when running inside the VM compared to when the v2v is run on the
same bare-metal host.

bandwidth aggregation between 2 hosts in the same subnet
Hi,
I''m trying to increase the bandwidth between two hosts (backup). Both
hosts are in the same /24 subnet and each of them is connected to
a Cisco switch by 2 GbE interfaces (intel e1000). The switches/host
are located in different building which are connected by 3 x GbE.

Decent Performance
Hi all,
I am trying to get some decent speed out of a vanilla Debian (Proxmox) box and
am running out of ideas. Basically I can exchange data at 110MB/sec (raw, nfs,
ftp) but not with Samba shares.
I tried almost every samba tuning tip I could find to no avail. The only
optimisation left to smb.conf at the moment is debug level = 0. As one can see
the robocopy throughput is merely half of what

samba/network performance
Hi list,
we're having some problems with our Samba Server based on Debian Eth with Samba version 3.0.24. When a user copies a file to a share the performance is just about 10-15 MBits/s. Doesn't matter what OS the client uses. The server itself has a 1 G connection. Both are directly connected to the switch so there couldn't be a buggy cable/box between them. When i measure the speed

Samba fileserver limited to 50 MB/s on gbit
Hello,
I am running a fileserver with smbd here.
The server is a 64bit 2.8 GHz Celeron D with 2GB RAM, running 64bit Debian,
Samba version 3.0.23c.
It is running as a pure fileserver so its only CPU load is serving files.
The client I am doing the tests from is WinXP Pro SP2.
It is connected via Intel e1000 gbit ethernet (both the server and client
use e1000 chipsets).
I have done a raw tcp

bad performance Vista <-> Samba over gbit
Hi,
I've a strange issue with the performance of file transfers between a
Samba server and a Vista client.
My configuration looks like this:
fileserver: Samba 3.3 on FreeBSD 6.2 ----- gbit switch -----
workstation: Vista x64
When transfering files between the two PCs, I get abount 6.5 to 7 MB /
sec. On my last Vista installation I got about 40 MB / sec. I've tried

single stream performance issue, Win2K, WinXP, Samba 3.2.5-4lenny7 (Debian Lenny)
Hello fellow Samba users and devs. This is my first post. I've searched
documentation far and wide for Windows, Linux, and Samba, and have not been able
to shed any light on this issue.
I can't get more than 8MB/s during a single file copy stream out of my Samba
server over my 100FDX switched network either from Win2K or WinXP (I don't have
a *nix client to test with). The network

strange speed issue
Hello,
I'm trying to connect some windows machines together using tinc 1.0.6.
The basic connectivity (ping) works fine as expected. But I'm getting
really poor speeds over the tinc tunnel. The test machines are on the
same switch and get values ranging from 6-9 MBytes/s speaking directly to
each other. However over the tinc tunnel the speeds are in the range of
20-40 kbytes/s. The machines

small files poor performance
Hello,
I've read a lot of information and forums concerning the samba
performance question, but nothing was helpful. I'm desperate of
the situation so I'm writing here hoping somebody could help me.
When copying cca 330MB file from server - I can reach rate about
8-11MB/s depending on some mysticals factors, which I can't identify.
To eliminate possible network problems, I've

Network throughput testing software available for CentOS/Linux
Hello everyone,
A network engineer buddy of mine brought up for discussion with me
that he'd like to do some throughput testing, but he's new to
Linux/RedHat. Is there any software I can recommend to him that
any of you find above par for CentOS 6/7?
Thanks!
