sharing word files
hello
I'm having the following problem:
On a share I have a user with read-only access to word files. Another
user has read-write access to these files.
When the user with read-only access opens a word file and then the
user with read-write access to these files opens the file, the
read-write user has only read-only access.
If the read-write user opens the word file first, then he has

Group Policy install MSI from Samba share
I have a Windows 2000 Active Directory domain and I need to create a
group policy to assign an msi install to a computer. This has always
worked fine on a Windows share, but now the install fails after moving
to a Samba file server. I'm guessing it's some sort of permissions
issue. Does anyone know how to make this work?

Does Samba/Winbind not follow nested groups in AD?!?
Here's the situation: We have users who are members of groups and those
groups are sometimes members of a 2nd level of groups. If a folder has
permissions assigned to a 2nd level group, then the user can not access
the share. Doing a "getent group | grep user | grep 2nd_level_group"
also returns nothing. Samba seems to not be recognizing that a user is
a member of a group under

smbpasswd hangs /usr/bin/passwd indefinately
Hello,
I am running Samba 2.2.3a-6 on a Debian(testing) machine.
It is running as a PDC for 15 Win2K(SP2/3) systems. Everything runs
beautifully except the users cannot change their passwds. When a user
CTRL-ALT-DEL and change passwd they ultimately get a messages stating that
the old passwd is incorrect....
If I log into a shell as a user on the system and invoke smbpasswd, It
goes through all

"inherit acls" only works with "inherit permissions"
We are running a fileserver (Samba version 3.0.10-1.4E.9) on CentOS 4.4.
No AD, clients are Windows XP and OS X.
Linux acl's are used for access to directories and files. Each top-level
folder belongs to a primary group with mode 2770. The acl's restrict access
to lower level directories. We need to pass the acl's down the directory
tree or else users may have unexpected access to

what OS do you use for Samba?
I'm trying to decide on a linux distro to use for our enterprise Samba
server. I like that there is a deb repo for Debian from samba.org, but
I'm more comfortable with CentOS (Redhat). I just want to be sure I
have a well supported Samba server and I need at least the 3.0.20
version so I can use the "inherit owner" property. I also want
automatic updates for bugfixes and

Problem: MySQL drops first connection then fine
Kia ora all,
Today I updated our server management software from Plesk 8.0 to Plesk
8.01.
Now when a user connects to my rails app they will initially get an
Application Error. If they try again it is fine and continues to be fine
until they pause for too long (approx 2 mins). In the logs I am getting
the following error:

Samba's the PDC, nothing fancy about the setup other than trying to use LDAP for
authentication.
So far everything's been mostly fine, then yesterday for some reason a number of my
users couldn't authenticate after logging out or

ruby.exe growing large, possible memory leak in sql server
Hey all,
I believe there is a memory leak when using Win2000 + SQL Server +
Apache2 + scgi + rails 1.1. My apps so far have been pretty ''low
impact'' and i did not notice it before, but the memory footprint of
ruby.exe is growing larger. After 6 queries that fetch ~2,000 rows
each, ruby.exe has grown to 41 megs (originally around 20). The memory
leak is also present in webrick,

Memory leak
Has anyone noticed (using the linux command 'top') a gradual increase in
memory usage when asterisk is under heavy processing? I am currently
pumping 4 ISDN spans (T-1) through my asterisk test system, and have seen
the memory used value in top climb steadily each second. Concurrently, the
value for "cached" in top also climbs, but occasionally it drops, as well.

Memory getting eaten up with XML
Hi all. I have an issue that I cannot resolve. I am trying to read in lots of data that are stored in xml files. But after I read them in and copy the relevant data, then remove the document etc, it doesn't free up the memory. When I monitor it in windows task manager the memory usage just climbs with each iteration until R crashes. I can replicate the problem with the small example:

timeout_remove and "Timeout leak" problems
Hello,
I have run into troubles trying to jump from 1.0alpha5 (basically
running smoothly) to 1.0beta5 and/or beta7.
I am seeing errors such as the following set for nearly every user.

smbd keeps maxing out the cpu, must reboot server constantly
This is running in vmware, and I noticed occasionally wmware reports
that the cpu is being maxed out by a virtual machine. Logging into the
virtual machine and running top confirms that the smbd process is maxing
out the cpu. If I leave it alone for a while, eventually it starts
dropping connections and not letting people into the file server.
Killing the process with kill -9 does no good, it

validations not run till after action in controller is called
Hi there
I am uploading data and images in a form
and I am trying to validate the url of the img before it is uploaded and the
record is saved...
the controller works fine when the url is valid
but while trying to test invalid url''s I found that the validations are not
run until the end of the action
is there a way to run validations on a post before the action is called?
cheers
