Password complexity
I'm setting up password complexity requirements on our Samba server, using the "check password script" option, the provided crackcheck.c program, and the "min password length" account policy. Everything works; however, the error message that a Windows client gets when a new password fails to pass crackcheck is not terribly helpful: "Your password must be at least 8

Underscores in package names
I do not follow you Gabriel. Package name must not use digit numbers. Tarbal will use them, taken from the DESCRIPTION file, version field. That's why I consider the weird case name you presented as irrelevant, and not to be considered. [PATCH] Added features for AIX authentication
Please find attached a patch I put together to provide some useful extras using OpenSSH 2.2.0p1 under AIX. I have been forced to write these to allow OpenSSH to conform to our local security policy and to aid our user administration department. Please note that in testing of this latest release we found "useLogin yes" to be broken again. Since login provides no extra functionality in

Samba 3.0.24 handling LDAP responses incorrectly
Hey list, Recently I've gotten my Samba PDC to successfully use an OpenLDAP backend, while using the smbk5pwd and ppolicy overlays for OpenLDAP. However, Samba appears to incorrectly handle responses from LDAP's ppolicy overlay, even though it very clearly receives them. If I enter in a password (be it through Ctrl+Alt+Delete or when a password expires and the user is prompted at logon)

fwd on busy when calling multiple extensions at once
Hi, I am setting up a dispatch center where will have 4 call takers, all with Polycom IP 600 Sip phones. Each phone will be setup with 6 extensions each. When a new call comes in, the first extension on all the phones will ring. This works fine, the problem is when one of the dispatchers is already using her first extension and another call comes in. What happens now is that the remaining 3

[HELP] Mongrel Needs a Patch Maven
Hey folks, I''m falling behind in my Mongrel duties and seriously need to recruit an enterprising individual to take on the patch queue and help push out a new release with some minor fixes. The goal would be to just get patches that are currently languishing, pull them together, put them in the source, write some tests to try them, and then one slight design change. If this works out

Help scoring a matrix of item responses
Hi All. I'm new to R and trying to learn the data manipulation routines. At the moment, this is the one that has me stumped. Imagine n test takers provide responses to k multiple choice items. The result is a (n+1) x k matrix of responses where the first row of the matrix is a correct answer key. How could you transform the raw item responses into 1s (correct response) and 0s (incorrect

Underscores in package names
Won't it be better to have a convention that allows lowercase, dash, underscore and dot as only valid characters for new package names and keep the ancient format validation scheme for older package names? This could be implemented by a single function, taking a strictNaming_b_1 parameter which defaults to true. Easy to use, and compliance results will vary according to the parameter value,

rsync transfers whole content when a new hardlink is created
Hi, I detected a silly behaviour of rsync when new hardlinks of already synced files are created: Scenario: There are a local directory and a equal remote directory created by former run of rsync. Create a hardlink from a already existing file (both inside the local directory). If this hardlink has a filename with comes before the original filename when both are sorted in alphabetic order,

SMDI Bounty - where?
I am the one that placed the bounty. After it being there for 2 months and getting no takers (and very few if any people asking about it), we are almost finished writing it in house. I'll keep the bounty up untill we do finish our product so if anyone beats us to getting it working they'll get paid... W. Kevin Hunt CCIE #11841 MCSE, Linux+ SME www.huntbrothers.com >

embedding wxruby?
Hello, is it possible to code a wxWidgets GUI in C++ and pass the whole wxApp or just single windows to embedded Ruby code? This would be very nice to provide a scriptable plugin system. Help wanted: configure test for busted mmap
Linux 2.2 (and probably others) have a deficient mmap which has caused a number of problems (e.g. bug #285). A workaround is in development, but it would be helpful to have a configure test to detect the bad mmaps(). Any takers? -d
