browsing on samba shares is slow
Hello All
I have a Samba 2.2.7 on a RedHat9 system installed as a PDC.
Domain logons work fine, I see the linux system in the network
neighborhood, but the browsing of tha samba shares is very slow,
especially on stepping up in the directory tree. Usually when
reaching back to the first level of shares, the flashlight/folder
icon appears in windows explorer, and in the top bar

Slow browsing windows shares from linux/samba
Hello all
I have been searching around the internet and even used the searchable
samaba mailing list archive. It seems I have a rare case of where my problem
is reversed to the common slow samba problem.
My problem is this:
I have a network of 3 PCs, one Linux 2 Windows XP. They are connected via a
hardware router (switched) on the 190.190.1.0 network. On the linuxbox I
have a collection of

Samba slow browsing/access
Hello everyone
I'm currently running samba 4.0.21 on classic pdc role mode under FreeBSD 10.0 (RELEASE-p9) , most of shares are located in a ZFS volume with NFSv4 acls using vfs_zfsacl, file and folder browsing become gradative slower , when i open a share or folder especially the huge ones it takes some time to list everything and some times doesn't show anything, also sporadically some

Slow browsing
Hi,
I have recently set up an old machine as a linux fileserver (Intel 815E
board with 512MB ram and PIII 800mhz). I am running the latest Fedora Core 5
with the version of samba 3 that ships with that and am exposing a single
share for my software raid (4x400gb PATA seagate drives, running from two
siig ATA cards so each drive has its own channel)
I also have a buffalo 1.0tb terastation

Browsing shares
I have a question regarding firewall settings and share browsing. I have
set-up my firewall to allow the usual ports for Samba to work and I would
like to control the connections used for providing Windows with share
browsing.
I currently have a range of ports opened to allow browsing as described in
the documentation, and Samba shares are browseable and accessable. Can I
restrict/specify

SSHA salt?
Hi there,
I was wondering if someone could explain how dovecot/dovecotpw produces salt
for use in ssha passwords, I'd like to replicate this in PHP so I can write
my passwords from php in ssha instead of just sha1.
Thanks in advance,

Problem browsing shares "element not found"
Good afternoon,
I have a new Samba414 install on clean Ubuntu server 12.04. All working
except I cannot browse into shares. I get "not accessible" and then
"element not found". Using "net use" works fine - I can "browse" a share
that has been attached to a drive letter but I cannot browse the UNC
path. That is to say
NET USE P: \\MYDOMAIN\public
works,

Slow connection and browsing
I have tried this with a bunch of different versions of Samba, starting
somewhere in the 3.0.1 series. I am currently running 3.0.34 on several
Gentoo servers, all showing the same problem.
I am almost positive it is not a Samba issue, but I was just hoping that
someone may have experienced it and knows if there is a solution.

Samba AD DC and browsing of shares
Hi!
I know it is not right to have users' home directories and shared maps
on DC, but - is there any workaround which could enable browsing of
shares on Samba4 (4.2) AD DC like it was in good ole times of Samba3 DC?
I heard some workaround exists, but with no details an further references.
Is it crucial to have AD DC if I have to join Windows 7, 8, 8.1 to the
domain and do not plan to

Update: Slow browsing/reading from WinXP SP2
I stumbled onto another tidbit that may shed some more light. From the
new laptop, I tried to create a new folder on the 'samba' share. It
fails with the following error message:
"Unable to create the folder 'New Folder'. Access is denied"
It obviously looks like a permissions issue, but what? I did not have
to make any changes to my other laptop (upgraded from XP

Problem browsing shares on 4.1.4 (Ubuntu 12.04)
Hi there,
I noticed this bug as we were due to put this into production and wondered
if anyone else had seen similar.
When browsing a PDC share on Samba 4.1.4 (like Sysvol or netlogon or any
other newly created one) from a Windows box we see this error:
"\\pdc\share refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a
hard drive on this computer, or on a network. Check to make sure

Windows XP client over IPSEC VPN -- No browsing, limited file access.
Hello all,
I have a problem with browsing and share access over an IPSEC VPN. Details
follow.
The network has the following configuration: There are two local networks,
172.16.57.0/24 and 172.16.59.0/24. The networks are connected over the
internet by Cisco routers providing an IPSEC VPN. The VPNs are configured to
route all traffic (all IP types, all ports, except broadcast and ICMP
