Windows Vista password dialog keeps coming up
Hi,
I have come to my wits end again (lately, it's a very short trip). I have been trying to connect to Samba 3.0.21b but Windows keeps throwing up the logon dialog. I'm using "Map network drive" to try to mount this share.
It seems the problem is only on the Windows side since I have tested the connection through the Unix account. Both user id and password work fine.

accessing samba over the internet with dreamweaver
Hello,
I've got a friend who publishes his site via dreamweaver. He connects to
his site via a samba share and opens and saves files. Now the sites have
tempoarily relocated. I'm wanting him to still be able to access his site
files with his dreamweaver over the internet. Is this doable with either
samba, directly through dreamweaver, or something else? This needs to be as
simple

Problem with Login Shell in User Information using Winbind
Hi all
I am trying to get windows AD logins to work with Fedora 8/9 linux.I had
the same setup working well with fedora 7 , but with fedora 8/9 the
problem is whenever I do "getent passwd 'username'" the login shell is
listed as /bin/false and users cannot login , even though I have set it
to use template shell= /bin/bash in the smb.conf configuration file.
Also I have made

kinit succeeded but ads_sasl_spnego_krb5_bind failed
Hi all,
I'm having trouble joining samba to active directory. My samba version is
3.0.28a-35 and krb is 1.6.1-17.el5. It's running on centos 5, kernel
version 2.6.18-53.1.14.el5. It's running on vmware server by the way if that
is of any significance.
The specific error that I get are as follows:

Shaping traffic on heavily oversubscribed links?
Hi all,
I am having some fun with traffic shaping, and have run into an
interesting situation. Here is South Africa, most internet links are
heavily oversubscribed, which means that in most cases the local link is
_not_ the bottleneck, and shaping on the local link does not help that
much...
Does anybody have some tips on shaping such links? How can you get
interractive traffic if you

unsubscribing because...
I think it's a sad sign when the mailing list is more about how to
manage access to the wiki than actually managing contributions and the
content. I don't really have any confidence that centos wants a
vibrant community. The recent change list at
http://wiki.centos.org/RecentChanges
isn't really a good sign.
Sorry, but I felt if I simply unsubscribed and disappeared quietly,
I'd

long jumping out of code in specs
I wrote this abomination just now, and wonder if anyone else has had
experience with the pattern behind it. In short, I''m specing an
after_create hook on an ActiveRecord model, that calls a bunch of
private methods. Instead of stubbing all those private methods (which
is verboten anyway, as well as impossible because creating the object
which owns those methods is what I''m

Changing Host Name
Thanks to all of you who are answering my dumb questions about my new
CentOS instgallation.
I modified /etc/hosts, as the hostname man page seemed to suggest, and
rebooted. The hostname is still localhost. I want to change it to
jjb-centos. I also want to change the domain name to abilitiessoft.com
Thanks,
John

require_membership_of is ignored
I have a RHEL 6.3 machine successfully bound to AD using winbind, and commands like wbinfo -u and wbinfo -g output the users and groups. I can also log in as any AD user.
The problem is, I can log on as any AD user.
require_membership_of is being ignored. I can put in a valid group with no spaces in the name, a group by SID, and either way, everyone can log in.
I've put this option in both

auth problem: wbinfo works, smbclient doesn't
Hi guys,
I have a strange problem. I can authenticate a user with wbinfo from my domain
controller (security =3D ads), however when I try and map a share, the
authentication fails. i.e.
# wbinfo -a 'COAL+bcanglo%bcpass'
plaintext password authentication succeeded
challenge/response password authentication succeeded
# smbclient '\\xxxxxxx\timtest' -U 'COAL\bcanglo'

trouble getting digest-md5 & ldap working
hi,
I am trying to set up dovecot with digest-md5 as authentication mechanism and
openldap as passdb.
My problem is ... that I just can't get it working. PLAIN authentication works
as expected, but no luck with digest-md5.
An excerpt from the two configuration files:
dovecot.conf:
--------CUT--------
auth = default
auth_mechanisms = plain digest-md5
auth_userdb = ldap

Setup help
I'd previously had dovecot running on a Debian server but recently
migrated to Suse. The nice, simple setup for dovecot on debian is not as
easy using the dovecot sources. My lack of experience I'm afraid! I'd
like to continue to use dovecot, especially as my current maildir
directories are all set up ready to be use again.
On suse (sles9) I have users authenticating by LDAP. In

major pop3+ldap problem with alpha3 and alpha4
hi,
For some of our customers we provide a pop3 access, and after an upgrade
to alpha3, it is not working anymore.
All of our data is ldap based and everything is working as before for
our IMAP customers, but our POP3 users fail.
Obviously the pop3 login process does not read the data correctly that
comes from ldap.
after enabling mail_debug, I saw the following error in our log:

Samba Share Mounts with Java
Hello,
I am developing a Java application that requires me to read from and write to a samba share. When developing in a windows environment this was not a problem. I mounted the share as "M:/", built a path to a file, checked if the file exists using the Java function file.exists(), and went on my merry way. Now I am developing in a Linux environment(SuSE 10). I mount the samba
