Visual Source Save and samba
Is anyone out there running Microsoft's Visual Source Save with a samba share? We are doing so here and are encountering difficulties. The "working directory" is a samba share. It seems that VSS is not manipulating file permissions appropriately when items are checked in and out. User always has write access to the item. Is anyone using MS VSS successfully with samba and care to

drop elements of vector by class
i'm trying to build a little summary table for the contents of a data frame. t<-sapply(macro, data.class) c<-sapply(macro, length) m<-sapply(macro, mean, na.rm=T, digits=2) cbind(type=t, n=c , mean=m) I want to drop the variables that are factors so I can include -max- and -min- in my table. -macro- contacts the data--how do I drop the variables according to their data.class

HELP: smb 3.6.20 and 3.6.21 broken with Win 8.1
We have a total of 2 desktops upgraded to the recent Window 8.1. Neither is able to map the home share, which happens to be a DFS root, and of course cannot access DFS links. Errors we are seeing are "Server unable to perform requested operation" Or Using net use - system error 64 Or Using net use with ip addr in lieu of NetBIOS name -

SUMMARY: Samba "unable to validate password" error
To sunmanagers and samba@lists readers: Thank you all so much for your help with the samba issue. Although the problem was not solved, your suggestions made it possible for us to narrow down the problem. We believe the problem are two office PCs that were recently configured with some new test software. All other PCs and user accounts work fine. I do need to upgrade samba to a newer version

samba configuration question
We have a central campus kerberos server. We have a local Active Directory domain which is a member of the main campus forest. We have 2 samba 3.0 servers currently configured: security = domain password server = SPHDC0 SPHDC1 where SPHDC0 is the primary domain controller, SPHDC1 is backup domain controller and neither of which runs in native mode. We want everyone, for both domain and

Continual Problems with "File system does not support long filenames"
When trying to create a file or folder on a samba 3.0.28-0.el4.9 share from a Windows 2003 R2 server, I continually receive an error message stating that the target filesystem does not support long filenames. I have another samba 3.0.28-0.el4.9 server where this does not happen. What causes this? Here's the smb.conf from the "bad" server. It's pretty much the same as the

Chronic Problems with "File system does not support long filenames"
When trying to create a file or folder on a samba share (3.0.28-0.el4.9) from a Windows 2003 R2 server, I occasionally receive an error message stating that the target filesystem does not support long filenames. This happens even if object name follows 8.3 naming conventions. It does not *always* happen. Also, I have another samba 3.0.28-0.el4.9 server where this does not happen at all. What

read.table error
R experts, I am working with a fairly large data set comprised of 563 rows by 116 columns including several different modes. I have been unable to read in the data set completely using the read.table function and the RGui (i.e. nearly half the total number of rows are missing from the data set along with the column names). The data does read in fully using Tinn-R's Rterm; however, at several

how to ignore error messages?
Dear group: I wrote a code to iterate a non-linear fit with a set of data. The entire process didn't implemented to the end because an error message, "singular gradient". I knew that some sub-sets (columns) do not fit my formula well and may result in parameters going to infinity. It is pretty hard to remove those sub sets before running the code since that will take a lot of

smb_panic with 4.0.0rc2 on Debian Squeeze
Hi, I have successfully compiled and installed Samba 4.0.0rc2 on Debian Squeeze as described in the Wiki. In order to support Win XP and Win 7 clients, I have created GPOs for folders redirection. The problem I am facing is with random PANIC messages in the logs and logon/logoff/file access process gets hung on the client. Here are the logs: Oct 18 13:42:32 pdc smbd[27384]: [2012/10/18

Fedora 11: Package RBGL won't install
Hi I've been trying to install RBGL and several other packages in gR task view on Fedora11 64 bit without success My guess is that it is due to boost (fedora is at boost 1.37 which is a few minor versions behind 1.40) and very recent g++ Has anyone managed to install the gR task view or RBGL in particular? Thanks Cheers Peter ======== [root at SPH-PH-428-04P ~]# gcc --version gcc (GCC)

Strange locking behaviour upsets Apache
We have a server which runs Samba and Apache. Web developers edit their files (via Windows mapped drives) from Windows XP SP2. These files are typically CGI files and the developers' routine is: while (web page not quite right) { 1. Edit file 2. Save 3. Click Reload on web browser 4. Check results } They go around that loop many times during a typical development run.

a lot off nmbd
Hello, I have installed a new server with mandriva 2007 free edition, with samba 3.0.23d on it. It is good but a new nmbd appears every 5 minutes and they don't die when I stop samba. So, I compiled samba 3.0.24 and ... idem. This is not my first install, on my other servers they're only 2 nmbd. With this install, after one day, I have more than 250 daemons, it is the hell ! What

WINS-Server != PDC ?
