Two samba related openldap overlays
Two openldap overlays that may be of interest to others.
In the first, I've hacked up Howard Chu's smbk5pwd openldap overlay to
include the automatic addition of sambaNTPassword, sambaLMPassword, and
sambaPwdLastSet attributes to any sambaSamAccount entries that are being
ADDED to the directory.
WARNING: This overlay is ONLY useful with cleartext passwords.
In the second, I've

strange behaviour of the "ldap passwd sync" option
Hi,
i'm trying to set up a samba (samba 3.0.25a) PDC with the ldapsam
backend on FreeBSD (FreeBSD 6.2) and i have some trouble with the "ldap
passwd sync" option.
I must say here that my goal is to use the ldap smbk5pwd overlay in
order to keep in sync the unix and samba password when the user change
his password from a unix workstation either via ldappaswd or passwd

Result: Success (0)

Overlays syncrepl and smbk5pwd
Hi,
I am using both syncrepl (for replication) and smbk5pwd (for password
synchronisation between samba and ldap account) overlays.
I have configured replication in the simplest way: a read-only producer
that forwards updates to the provider thought updateref.
If I change my password thought passwd command on a client with pam
modules configured for gaining information from the provider

auth debug log entry incorrect
Hello,
just want to report a slightly confusing log entry on auth-debug level I have encountered while setting up Kerberos auth.
Users are stored in ldap, Kerberos makes use of the same ldap as its backend, goal was to enable users to use their principals in addition to simple login with mailAddress/userPassword combination.
Sample entry relevant attrs:

The core.schema and the core.ldif are bit different.

Mysterious new problem: nss_ldap: could not soft reconnect to LDAP server
Suddenly as of this morning, none of my users can authenticate to samba
because nss_ldap is producing cryptic errors. Nothing has changed on
either the LDAP server or the Samba server. Looks like this in
/var/log/messages:

Samba, OpenLDAP and Passwords
Hi,
I have an existing OpenLDAP directory, that I want to use as the backend for
a Samba 3 instance.
I do not want for now making Samba a Domain Controller, but only define in
it some shares accessible by users on LDAP.
I have imported in my slapd.conf the samba schema, and I have inserted in my
smb.conf all the directives for connecting to an LDAP server:

ldap passwd sync only
Hello
I have exactly the same trouble as described here:
http://www.nabble.com/ldap-passwd-sync-on-3.0.25a-tf4261008.html on
samba-3.0.25b-2.fc7.
When i set "ldap passwd
sync" to "only" and I change password on some ldap samba
user, password in attribute userPassword is never changed by samba daemon
(to update NT and LM password I use smbk5pwd overlay). If i set pwd

Kerberos authentication for non-windows KDCs
I was told recently that Kerberos authentication won't work against a
non-windows KDC. Is that accurate? So for instance, it is not possible
for Samba running on say RHEL, to authenticate against a Linux server
running MIT Kerberos?
Additionally, many people said that setting this up was
well-documented. Any suggestions of particularly good docs / how-to's?'
And lastly, is

Samba 3.0.24 handling LDAP responses incorrectly
Hey list,
Recently I've gotten my Samba PDC to successfully use an OpenLDAP
backend, while using the smbk5pwd and ppolicy overlays for OpenLDAP.
However, Samba appears to incorrectly handle responses from LDAP's
ppolicy overlay, even though it very clearly receives them. If I enter
in a password (be it through Ctrl+Alt+Delete or when a password expires
and the user is prompted at logon)

[PATCH 2/2] v2v: Add --print-target to display overlay and target information.
This is analogous to --print-source, except that it prints the overlay
and target disk information.
The output looks like below. Note there is one overlay and one target
section per disk.
Overlay and Target information (--print-target option):
overlay file: /home/rjones/d/libguestfs/tmp/v2vovlc687fe.qcow2
overlay device name: sda
overlay virtual disk size: 6442450944

[PATCH] fix:overlay: add missing header dependencies
We get 1 warning when build kernel with W=1:
drivers/gpu/drm/nouveau/dispnv04/overlay.c:496:1: warning: no previous prototype for 'nouveau_overlay_init' [-Wmissing-prototypes]
In fact, this function is declared in disp.h, so this patch
add missing header dependencies

[PATCH v2 03/17] v2v: factor out overlay creation
Iterating over source disks and creating temporary overlays for easy
rollback fits nicely into a separate function. In addition, determining
their size doesn't need to wait until the guestfs is launched: the size
can be obtained via disk_virtual_size() method.
