run a script with "administrator" credentials?
I saw Active Directory a bit today and was impressed with the ease one can manage many Windows workstations with that. Especially I liked the software installation (too bad it can install MSI packages only) and the ability to run custom scripts on the workstations (when the boot up etc.). Is it possible to run a custom script for a given machine when it boots up (that is already joined to

Samba 3.025 wbinfo checking the trust secret via RPC calls failed
I have compiled Samba 3.0.25a from source on a Solaris 10 machine. I had previously been testing Samba 3.0.24 (from packages on www.sunfreeware.com) and have reused the smb.conf file. Otherwise this is a clean setup, not an upgrade. The server is configured as a PDC for my domain "SAMBADOMAIN" I created a samba password for the local root and administrator accounts. I joined the

Restricting logins to certain clients
I run samba-3 as PDC for a small domain with 4 clients. User A should be allowed to login on all client machines, while logins for the privileged user B should be restricted to 2 machines for security reasons. Any ideas how to manage that? Suggestions for further reading would be highly appreciated? Hans Musil

Roaming profiles and accounts
Hi all, I've managed to install an ubuntu server as PDC, everything is working fine. However, i've got a few questions regarding profile ( M$ XP ) and unix accounts. 1. Roaming profile : I believed that when logging off a computer, user's profile was moved back to the server. But i can still find one. Windows 7 problems
Hi, I have upgraded to Samba 3.5.6 for Windows 7 Pro compatibility. I am in a test phase to evaluate the behavior of Windows 7 in a Samba PDC environment. prepare for vista
Am in testing phase with just a few lucky users to go live with samba. However, I just had a thought. What happens when we eventually do vista? Seems like I may need to add %a to my path = statement, but it did not work. No profile was created for the user under the "windows version" directory.. Here's my testing smb.conf. Please have a look and see what I may need to do to

enable client to join domain with no or any password?
I am trying to automate W7 joining to our Samba domain. It works fine through the Windows GUI from the W7 workstations. However, for a script one would have to store password used for domain access, and since that is the server's root password, I really don't want to hard code that into a file. Is there a way to set (temporarily) a Samba server so that it will accept (admin/anything) as

problem with Too many open files
Hi Samba community, Last year we upgraded from version 3.0.10 to 3.0.20b and at the same time switch from NT-domain controller membership to AD membership. After this upgrade we began to experience that drives sometimes were not mapped. We saw this both on our Citrix servers and on our XP PCs. A couple of weeks back we then moved to 3.0.21b in the hope that this misbehaviour would
