Record the user log-in and log-out
Hi!
I'm sorry but I need a *fast* reply, I've absolutely no time to search on
docs. :-(
I have a small network: about 8-10 XP client connected to a Samba PDC.
I need to log who and when log in the PDC, because the national law requires
to record these infos and preserve them for a certain time.
Any tip will be apreciated!!
Thanks
Giovanni

Username.map works in 2.2.8a, doesn't work in 3.0.14a
I'm a bit puzzled. I am able to map an account without any problem on
Samba 2.2.8a (security=domain). However, access fails with Samba
3.0.14a when everything else is the same (same configuration files).
Any advice as to the cause of the problems (and its solution) would be
appreciated.

Very slow initial opening MS-Word and MS-Excel files from Samba
The first time a Word or Excel file is opened, i.e., when either Word or
Excel have not been actively running "recently" (like, say for several
minutes or more), the time it takes to start the application and load
the file seem inordinately long.
Once the first evolution is complete, files open more-or-less instantly
if I close the first document but leave either app running (but

WinXP won't authenticate
I've looke throught the archives and can't find much to help my
situation.
I have a Slackware 10 server running Samba 3.0.4 on a Win2k/2K3 Active
Directory Domain.
My win2k clients can connect to the samba shares but the WinXP clients
cannot.
I've tried the enableplaintextpassword hreg hack but that doesn't solve
the issue.

Problem with Share Size
Hi all,
I have a problem with samba : I can create files, but can't create directories.
The server has many shares, on seperated disks.
We consider two of them : one 2Tb share and one share with more than 7Tb.
Samba configuration is good, and works on many other servers, and on this one except for the large share. Permissions are correctly setted up too.
I can read/write files and

Confusing behavior of hosts allow/hosts deny in Samba 3.0.28/3.2.4
I saw some unexpected behavior in the interaction of hosts allow and
hosts deny on Samba 3.0.28. I built Samba 3.2.4 just to be sure it
wasn't something that had been fixed. I saw the same behavior.
I'm not sure if it is a bug or a failure on my part to
understand the documentation or misleading documentation.
If I have a share defined as

Forklift a 2000 phone PBX
I'm staring at an RFP--this company wants to replace a 2000 position PBX
(at eight locations) with a new system. Their mindset is Nortel/Avaya
because they talk about 28-button digital sets. The do specify a few IP
phones for just one location, so they are aware of VoIP.
I'm going to bid on this--there's nothing to lose except the time it
takes to write the proposal. I'll

Samba Server [Solaris 8] on Windows 2K/2003 [ADS] network
ALL:
Please forgive my ignorance. I am not just naive regarding Samba..., or
Solaris..., or UNIX, or Windows Networking..., the naivity courses through
my veins abundantly in all IT related matters. :-)
Our work unit is the lone UNIX [Samba server 2.2 on Solaris 8] installation
on the organizational Windows WAN. None of the analysts in our unit have
domain admin rights. The sys manager in

what OS do you use for Samba?
I'm trying to decide on a linux distro to use for our enterprise Samba
server. I like that there is a deb repo for Debian from samba.org, but
I'm more comfortable with CentOS (Redhat). I just want to be sure I
have a well supported Samba server and I need at least the 3.0.20
version so I can use the "inherit owner" property. I also want
automatic updates for bugfixes and

ADS on Solaris
Hi all,
I see that the premade binaries for Samba on Solaris, even recent
versions, have ADS support not compiled in. I see more ad domains than
nt4 domains these days, so I am going to compile it myself with ads on.
I want to ask the experienced if there are any gotchas with ads Samba on
Solaris, or something about Solaris that makes ads Samba support
difficult. Thanks

compile on solaris 64bit, static winbind
Hello,
i got many problems in compiling a working samba to use in our environment.
- solaris 10 on amd64 sun hardware
- version above 3.3.0 because of one of our applications
- samba as memeber server in active directory because of usermanagement on
windows 2003
- 64-bit samba because of many many open files
- static libraries because of relocation error: R_AMD64_PC32 with shared ones

Maximum tollerable lag/jitter for IAX2 w/o j itterbuffer enabled?
Unfortunatly no on both counts.
The arrangement right now has:
PSTN Trunks & Stations <-> Nortel Norstar#1 <-CT1-> Asterisk#1 <-IAX2->
Asterisk#2 <-CT1-> Nortel Nortstar#2 <-> Stations
The Asterisk boxes provide Voicemail to their sites Norstars and intersite
calls over IAX. Local Voicemail works flawlessly at each site but there have
been reports of PSTN calls

[LLVMdev] Boehm GC + static variables?
Hi,
I'm running LLVM bitcode generated by my compiler under lli. The bitcode is
linked against Boehm GC (lli -load=/usr/lib/libgc.so).
It looks like Boehm GC isn't scanning global variables and as a result
objects referenced only through globals are being prematurely collected. I
understand that Boehm GC needs to see the data segment containing my global
variables as a root. For native

[LLVMdev] Boehm GC + static variables?
You should look at
http://llvm.org/viewvc/llvm-project/llvm/trunk/include/llvm/ExecutionEngine/JITMemoryManager.h?view=markup
and see if inheriting from that and overriding allocateGlobal() will
do what you want.
I'm a little surprised the boehm gc doesn't already see the globals,
since there's a reference to their memory from the JMM, but maybe it
doesn't scan mmap regions by

[LLVMdev] Boehm GC + static variables?
I've implemented this by adding calls to GC_add_roots(<first global in
module>,<last global in module>+1) to the llvm.global_ctors before any other
static initialization code for the module.
This should be safe assuming that:
- global variables are laid out in memory in the order they appear in their
module (and ideally contiguously without being interleaved with any other
values)

[RFC] per-device metadata
Hi,
Currently libvirt supports metadata in the domain XML. This is very
convenient for data related to the VM, but it is a little awkward for
devices. Let's pretend I want to have extradata (say, a specific port
for a virtual switch) related to a device (say, a NIC). Nowadays I can
store that data in the metadata section, but I need some kind of mapping
to correlate this piece of information
