Samba - LDAP - Kerberos
Hello. I'm trying to implement a single-sign-on system with MIT-Kerberos and OpenLDAP. These two are currently working pretty well, but now I'm trying to add samba to this system. I've found a lot of tutorials about samba PDC with LDAP backend, but this is of course not quite what I want. My passwords are stored in the kerberos database and userdata is stored in LDAP. Is there a way to

Samba 3 startup
Hello, I'd like to see if I can get some clarification on what is the preferred method of starting the Samba daemons (note that we are using Solaris, not Linux). This is something that I'm not able to find any explanation of in any of the Samba 3 documentation that I've looked at so far. In Samba 2 I would have the Samba daemons started up by the following in my /etc/inetd.conf:

Is Samba running on a Dual boot system while using w2k ?
Hi all, I'm new to Linux and Samba. I have two seperate hard drives, one has w2k and the other Red Hat Linux 7.3. Yessterday I struggeled to make the SWAT work. Then I realized that now I need to learn how to use SWAT. Before I invest time in learning how to use SWAT, my question is if I using w2k, can I access the hard drive that Linux is on and vice versa. Theis question came to my

Concerns about Samba4
Hi everybody. I attended the Samba conference at the FOSDEM yesterday. Jeremy Allison was great, and explained very clearly the problems faced by implementing an Active Directory controller. The CIFS protocol is required in heterogenous environments. Jeremy made it pretty clear that even in pure Unix environments, CIFS is quite superior to NFSv4. Samba is thus a required component of pretty

OK, one more time on the PDC thing
My apologies, I'm terribly sorry to belabor these PDC issues to the point where everyone is undoubtedly tired of hearing about them, but I have become absolutely obsessed with trying to solve this PDC problem. Here is what is happening now. I'm trying to connect to the Samba server which is set up as the PDC (domain PLAB) from windows client "venus". Windows prompts me to

Samba perms vs. fs perms
The subject's a little misleading really, but I was looking for some clarification of my thoughts... In Windows, one can use both share permissions and NTFS permissions to control access to files. I would normally use share permissions to control a connection (allow/deny), and use NTFS to control access. I would never use share permissions to control access whilst NTFS was capable of

Using NAS as PDC Shares?
Dear List, We have just bought: * Dual AMD CPU, 8TB NAS, 4GB RAM (DNUK.COM) - SUSE 9.3 * Two Dell 2850, 3GB RAM, Dual Xeon 3.2GHz, 300GB Raid 5 - Fedora Core 4 Now obviously we want to use the Storage ;-) How would you guys recommend we proceed? Samba PDC on one 2850, LDAP Directory on second, and somehow mount the storage for the shares? Or run the PDC on the NAS, and keep the LDAP

Migration to TNG
Hi list, as a result of horrible error logs and no sleep I would be able to throw my smb2.2.4 out of the window and take a phone call to dell for a nt box ... but I'll try once again. I know, this is the wrong list, but maybe here I get more Developers. My simple question is: If my PDC (WinS -> named, system is SuSE 7.3 but newest versions of all relevant software) won't run as smooth

Samba stuck!
Hi I wonder if you can help me. I'm currently studying Networking as a college course and one of the challenges we have been set is to research, then put into practice the mapping of a linux server onto a Windows NT server. I'll be honest with you, I'm very new to all this so I hope I explain this correctly. I have successfully created my own smb.conf file, usernames, areas and a

clarification needed: $ in machine name?
Hello, Sorry to be a pest, but I need to try to get some clarification of how the machine name works when setting up a machine account on the Samba server. The Samba How-To page http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/samba-pdc.html#id2536400 talks about the "common error" of including the $ in the machine name on the server machine. However, all of the

Samba-3.0.0rc4/ADS experience (with how-to change suggestion)
I'm nearly finished setting up a new Samba server in a Win2000 ADS domain. So far, things have been going quite well, the combination of Samba 3.0.0rc4 (with winbindd), krb5 1.3.1, CUPS 1.1.19, etc. has performed admirably and was easy to configure. I have only three issues to mention: - the HOWTO collection, in the section talking about joining an ADS domain as a member server, does not

Migrating kerberos KDC data into Samba4 internal KDC
Is there a mechanism migrate/import user principal information from an MIT KDC into a Samba4 internal KDC? We currently run our Active Directory users with Account Mappings that utilize a cross-realm trust between our MIT KDC (where user principals are maintained) and the Active Directory domain, as documented at *http://tinyurl.com/bx9znca* This works fine for our Windows clients, but it

Samba pwd in kerberos?
Hi. As I said... I will bother you. :) I'm wondering if it's possible to make samba as a primary domain controller without having samba passwords, but instead using my two KDCs (MIT K5). Is it possible? What should I use in my smb.conf? The wonderful and less painful thing is samba authenticating via pam... but I don't know how... the documentation is quite misty. -- Sensei

Kerberos support in 3.0?
Hi all, I'm about to begin building a single-sign-on environment (hopefully). We just brought our first set of Windows-based PCs in, and would like to integrate them into our existing Linux/MacOS X environment. We are currently running MIT Kerberos, and would like to create a Samba PDC which authenticates against these KDCs. Another parallel project is to migrate to OpenLDAP. I

Samba AD member lost domain join after reboot
Hello, After each reboot, my Samba AD member server lost domain join after reboot, I have to re-enter the server in the domain with the "net ads join -U administrator". I use version 4.4.3 of samba.
