For smaller files, what I'm doing is: trs <- scan("myfile", what= character(), sep = "\n") trs<- trs[sample(length(trs), 3000)] And this works OK; however my computer seems not able to handle

wine/RosettaStone breakage from recent kernel commit
Hi, I've been running the foreign language training program The Rosetta Stone(TRS) on wine for months now, but a recent commit to the linux kernel has caused TRS to be unable to read the DVD drive, where the program's data files are kept. Strangely, winefile can still read the data DVD, but TRS cannot, and I'm stumped. Below is the guilty kernel commit (rather long, sorry). Can

Building xapian-bindings
I'm posting this here to help others who might be having the same issue. I maintain xapian-core ruby gem. I was trying to upgrade to 1.4.2 and had some issues. The generated makefile doesn’t work because of the following: docs/rdocs/index.html: docs/xapian.rb rm -rf docs/rdocs $(MKDIR_P) docs cd docs && $(RDOC) --op rdocs `test -f xapian.rb||echo '$(abs_srcdir)/'`xapian.rb

Maxiter specification in R
Dear R users, I'm having a problem with maxiter specification in VGLM function. I tried to increase the number of iteration to 100, but it still stopped at 30, which is the default. Here is my script: FIT <- vglm(SFH_PCT ~ RD_DEN + CAR_HH + TRS + RES_L, tobit(Lower=0), maxiter = 100) Thanks Gary [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Stretch the x-axis for better alignment comparison
I have the following code that aligns the two graphs. Problem is that in .pdf it gives me it x-axis (0-100) is broken down into 0-20, 20-40..and so on. I wonder if there is for it to display the x-axis (and y-axis) in more detail than that. I'd appreciate your input -- pdf(file="VECTOR & ICA ALIGNMENT.pdf", height=5, width=5)
