Vista SP1, Server 2008 joining NT4/Samba Domain
Hello! It seems, that Vista SP1 and Server 2008 cannot join an NT4/Samba-domain. Vista once could join before SP1, if one did some modifications to the system (LAN Manager authentication level, Encryption of secure channel). But these workarounds do not seem to work with SP1 anymore. Microsoft points out that joining NT4-domains with Vista SP1 and Server 2008 is not supported/tested

Vista problem, with ADS samba
I am running samba 3.0.28 on linux servers using ADS security, without any problem. However when I added a vista workstation to the mix, it simply cannot connect to my printers. I can connect to my data/ or disk shares again without any problem from both 64bit vista, and 32 bit vista. When I try to access my printers though I get "Windows cannot connect to the printer, Operation

Can not connect to printer from Vista 64 - error 0x000006f7
Hello. I have a problem connecting to a printer via Samba from Vista 64-bit. Samba is configured to use printers from CUPS. When I try to connect to a printer I get a error message saying "Windows cannot connect to the printer. Operation could not be completed (error 0x000006f7)". I have managed to upload both 32 and 64-bit printer drivers from a Windows client. Connection and

Samba and Vista Home Prem login problems
I have a simple peer to peer setup with security = user. I only have two machines, one Vista and one Linux. I have two shares, one is the tmp folder and I enabled public access, the other is a user owned folder with read, write and execute permissions. I can see my Samba shares from my Vista machine and I can access the tmp folder, but I can't log on to the user protected one. I have encrypted

WG: Windows vista ultimate samba 3.0.31
I found the solution: I tried the srvmgr tool from microsoft to get connected to my samba 3 domain (from an XP client). And this tool told me the same "There is no PDC found for your domain. You may go on but but your rights may be Restricted." As I logged on I saw that both my PDC and BDC where BDCs. I stopped my BDC. Logged on to my PDC and remembering that I had also smbd4wins

Vista (pre-installed OEM editions) creating new files or folders on network shares
Hi, This post is to prevent other people that are having trouble with Vista clients from going down a blind alley investigating problems in their samba configurations. After some research I have found (see link below) that there is a general problem for pre-installed OEM editions of Vista Business (and possibly other vista versions) in creating files and folders on network shares. The problem

Samba login errors of Vista PC to Samba DC
I am very new to Ubuntu/Linux/Samb and have very simple goals: Set up an Ubuntu Server as a Domain Controller to provide single signon for students using study center PC's. All of the PC's are Windows Vista Business. I have successfully added a PC to the domain. I have successfully created a network user and logged on to the PC. However, the Samba log is throwing errors and I have a

Nagging performance issues with Vista
Hi All, I've got some performance issues with Samba and Vista that I just can't seem to figure out. Googling and fiddling has all been in vain up until now, so I'm not sure what I can do other than wait for Samba 4, but maybe someone here can find something I've missed. First off, the server is an Athlon 64 1.8GHz running Gentoo 2006.1, tested with both Samba 3.0.24 and

Name Resolution (Network Browsing) in Samba4 server with Vista Client?
Hello, I'm trying to get a samba4 server to show up while "network browsing" on a Vista client, but with no success. I've scoured the web and tried many things, but most documentation is for samba3. I can however mount the samba4 share using it's UNC path, but I really want netbios name resolution to work. With samba 3.0.28, as soon as I start smbd and nmbd, I can

empty directory with samba 2.0.24 and vista?
Hi all, When I connect the samba-3.0.24 server on a Windows Vista machine, I always got empty directory. I mean that I can't see any files in the directory although they really exist there. But from the same Window Vista machine, everything works fine when I connect another samba-3.0.32 server. After searching the Google, I find that the same problem has been reported before, But

Vista and UNC solved
For those having problems with Vista, and unc paths showing up empty, I can confirm that: [global] host msdfs = no fixes the problem. This is on 3.0.24 with all patches. Note that I am not using Dfs root shares or the like. YMMV Hope this helps someone. Cheers! -- Richard Potter

Vista roaming profiles...
Hi everybody, after many weeks of searching/trying, I still can't manage to get vista to use/save roaming profiles with samba as PDC... It has apparently worked a few times in the beginning since the profiles directories are populated. Could it be related to a Vista update or SP1? Here's what I did so far: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System]

Vista roaming profiles
Hi All, I've happily had Samba (3.0.24) operating as DC for my Win2k/XP network for years. I've just upgraded to Vista and eveything seems to be working fine (shares, domain logons) apart from roaming profiles. Just after logging on, the following error appears in a bubble from the system tray: "Your user profile was not loaded correctly! You have been logged on with a temporary

Windows Vista 64-bit support
Where does the R build for Vista X64 stand? The last update message is from July last year (see [R] Improved Windows Vista compatibility from Prof Brian Ripley on 2007-07-11). Is it likely to happen in 2008? I suspect that more people will start using it as Vista is adopted more widely. And I'd certainly use it for large genomics data sets. Thanks, Dan Gatti UNC-CH

Permissions problem with Windows Vista / 7 clients, Debian Samba 3.4.7 server
I'm having a very strange permissions problem with Samba 3.4.7 (installed via backports.org) running on Debian Lenny: If a Windows 7 or Windows Vista client tries to use Windows Explorer to access a user's home directory with permissions 0700, the client gets a permission denied error. If the directory is made world readable, it works. (For one user, group readable also works. For
