wbinfo recognises my username, smbclient does not
Hello folks.
Brand new 3.5.4 install of samba, on a brand new redhat 5.5 install,
trying to connect to a windows domain and allow AD users access. I used
a series of how-tos to set things up, and modified the smb.conf and
krb5.conf files from an existing (working, 3.2.8) system. I apparently
join the domain ok, and I can authenticate an AD user using wbinfo, but
when I try to use the same user

perhaps there was something wrong with the smb.conf file, which I had
mostly copied over from another machine. So, in desperation, I
commented out every single line in the file, and added back the most
basic configuration options until I could connect to the samba share
with smbclient. Then, to discover what was causing my problem, I added
back the other commented lines one at a time to see

samba printing from 64-bit windows server 2008
I have a redhat EL5 samba server hosting a collection of printers and
joined to a domain. I can connect to this server and print happily from
a 32-bit XP box on the domain, but a 64-bit windows server 2008 box
cannot connect, and returns the error 0x000006d1.
I get the same results with samba 3.0.33 (came with redhat), 3.5.3 (the
latest from sernet), and 3.3.12 (this message from the

idmap_ad and multiple domians
Has anyone else gotten samba functioning with idmap_ad and multiple domains?
In our environment we have a domain with two child domains. There is one child
domain for students, and another for faculty staff. Our servers are joined to
the student domain, but need to be able to enumerate users in the staff domain.
When attempting to lookup a user (wbinfo -i 'NAU\car3') that only exists

License of Port3 library for R
I developed some code that called subroutines from the Port3 Library
(http://www-out.bell-labs.com/project/PORT/). I?m thinking about making it
available as an R package. But I?m not sure if their NON-EXCLUSIVE SOURCE
CODE LICENSE AGREEMENT (

this. I tried contacting the contact person listed on the website. Not

acl_xattr access denied when adding permissions for another user
Dear all
We run Samba 3.5.8 on a Solaris 11 box on top of ZFS We got the
impression that the VFS module acl_xattr provides the best way
of keeping Windows ACLs. We don't have concurrent NFS or local users
so it's Windows only.
The clients as well as the Samba server are members of an AD domain.
Creating files/directories works as expected and also manipulating
permissions for the initial

Question on proper handling of usernames
Hi all,
I would like to try to start up a conversation about the "proper" handling of
usernames by samba/winbind. I know our current active directory setup is not
really considered supported via samba and I would like to know if the samba
developers think this might change, or if there are any recommendations for my
issues.
*** Since this came out rather long, here is a quick

checksum errors after online''ing device
Dear all
As we wanted to patch one of our iSCSI Solaris servers we had to offline
the ZFS submirrors on the clients connected to that server. The devices
connected to the second server stayed online so the pools on the clients
were still available but in degraded mode. When the server came back
up we onlined the devices on the clients an the resilver completed pretty
quickly as the

Slow connects
I've just installed openssh 2.3.0p1 on a number of Solaris 2.6 boxes. I've
noticed that connect times can take up to 3 minutes when connecting from
box a to box b with the new ssh client and daemon. When I connect using a
pc client like f-secure or with an old ssh client on unix the connect times
are wonderfully fast. Any idea why I would get slow connect times with the
new client and

panic after zfs mount
Dear all
We ran into a nasty problem the other day. One of our mirrored zpool
hosts several ZFS filesystems. After a reboot (all FS mounted at that
time an in use) the machine paniced (console output further down). After
detaching one of the mirrors the pool fortunately imported automatically
in a faulted state without mounting the filesystems. Offling the
unplugged device and clearing the fault

everyone acl
Howdy all,
I was wondering if there was a known bug with the everyone acl. When
looking at the security tab on windows the everyone acl has the read
permission. If I unselect it to give everyone no permission and hit
apply, read becomes checked again. If I select deny everyone read, then
a warning pops up saying this will deny read for all users and it does.
If after that I give read to another
