Member Server creates sambaDomainName LDAP entry
Short version: Why does my domain member server create a sambaDomainName entry in LDAP? Long Version: I have created a Domain Member Server for a "NT4 style" Samba domain with an LDAP backend. It is a print server, running Winbind (because it solved a group SID mapping problem and an 'invalid SID' error in syslog), and it works fine in all other respects, but this: After

avoiding the use of an LDAP entry for the samba domain?
Hello, - Is there a way to avoid that samba tries to search for an LDAP record for the domain, and for that matter to try to add the missing record? I noticed the following messages in the LDAP server log: SRCH base="dc=unige,dc=ch" \ scope=2 \ filter="(&(sambaDomainName=VPNGROUP)(objectClass=sambaDomain))" \ attrs="sambaDomainName sambaNextRid

LDAP and Domain
Hi to all, I'm configuring a samba server to act as Windows Domain Server through ldap, I've created the users for the domain, and seems to work fine when I'm not trying to log against the domain, (I tried with smbclient and mac os x). The problem is when I'm trying to add a windows machine to the domain, it ask me the login/password, I give one of "administrator"

Wierd failure when adding W2K to Samba3.0.0+LDAP Domain
Dear list I have been at it for a few day trying to get my SuSE 8.2 server (FREESIDE) to produce a domain (SKOGFARET) for my Windows 2000 Server machine (BABYLON). I use OpenLDAP, and the setup seems to work in most ways, except the vital one [ie. I can mount shares, print, etc...] When I try to add W2K (BABYLON) to the domain, I get the following error: "The following error occured

NT4 Domain PDC with Ldap backend and domain members
Hi, thanks for your answer. We are migrating on AD, but the legacy domain will stay for few a months. I still use samba 4.2 (before upgrading every file server). I don't understand how winbind will be used. I don't need an ou=Idmap as user entry in uid=login already contains the association between uid and sambaSID in the openldap passdb backend (on the DC). I just need the domain

LDAP issue, access denied adding machine to domain, and LDAP user can't make unix-login on the box.
Hi, I have a LDAP backend for my Samba 3.0.2, and everything seems to work except adding XP machines to the domain, and unix logins with a ldap client. Since this mail is very long, I have created a small index, so you don't get exhaustet in the middle of all the logs... ;) 1. LDAP user-creation 2. Group info 3. pam/nss info 4. smb.conf [global] 5. Issue with two domains in one LDAP tree
Hi, I've just moved a second Samba domain to LDAP -- it works great! However, the first domain is now dead in the water. It refuses to autenticate, and from the logs it looks like it's not find the SambaDomainName entry in the LDAP tree. Here is a diagram of how my LDAP tree is set up. dc=mycompany,dc=com |___ ou=computers |___ ou=people |___ ou=groups |___ sambaDomain=domain1 |___

security = domain -- samba adds its netbios name as samba domain to LDAP
Hi! I am running a RedHat Cluster with Samba shares that can failover to other nodes. On every node there is one Samba instance running permanently and acting as BDC (BDC instance) for my Samba domain, that binds to the physical network interfaces of the node. When starting a samba resource on a cluster node, I mount the corresponding file system from SAN on that node and start another

ldap_simple_bind: Can't connect to the LDAP server - Invalid argument
Hello I am trying to configure samba with Fedora Directory Server 1.0.4 on a Fedora 8 machine. I am following this guide: http://directory.fedoraproject.org/wiki/Howto:Samba#PAM_Configuration. Everything has "seemed" to work out fine until I got to the part of Populating FDS with PDC Entry. My end result is hopefully that user can log in on Windows XP Pro with pGina and have their home

joining a domain (ldap)
All, I try to add a computer to a PDC running SAMBA 3.0 (client is Windows NT 4.0 SP5). I want all the user- and machine accounts stored on my LDAP server. When I try to join the domain I just get the error message "The machine account for this computer either does not exist or is not accessible". When I look on my LDAP-Server, I see that SAMBA has not created an account for my

BDC constantly rebinds to master ldap server causing browsing delay
Hello, I seem to be having an issue where one of my BDC servers constantly needs to rebind to the "master" ldap server (ldap1.ae-solutions.com). Whenever this happens I see several entries in the log like this: "smbldap_search_ext: waiting 928 milliseconds for LDAP replication." It appears to cause delay when browsing samba shares whenever this happens. The master

samba3+openldap:Problem during the LDAP search
Hi, I'm trying to use samba3+openldap as our PDC. I installed the server using CentOS4.4 single service CD and then use yum install openldap-servers to install openldap server. I already ran "smbpasswd -w secret". When I invoked "smbpasswd -a root" the following error showed up: [root@localhost samba]# smbpasswd -a root smbldap_search_suffix: Problem during the LDAP
