Yet another charset problem
Hi, I am well aware that the charset problem has been discussed many times over. But after two days of googling and testing, I did not make any progress. I am mounting Windows XP Pro shares with french filenames on a Linux. The linux is a 2.4.27 kernel with the following settings: CONFIG_SMB_FS=y CONFIG_SMB_NLS_DEFAULT=y CONFIG_SMB_NLS_REMOTE="UTF8" CONFIG_SMB_NLS=y CONFIG_NLS=y

Help request from non-expert: mounting a samba drive with the right charset for accented filenames
Hi all, I hope someone might be able to offer me some advice. I have a NAS box, a QNAP TS-109 which runs a version of Debian Linux. It has a local ext3 drive, and I also smbmount a network drive on it (a Lacie ED mini which I have tried formatted as both ext3 and FAT32 without solving my problems). My problem is that I am unable to correctly rsync files with accented characters in the names

this looks normal to me. Did you enable to policy to not check for owner of the folders? and can you show me the smb.conf share setting of this share. Wrong charset on NTFS volumes (ext4 works fine)
Hi, first of all i'm sorry for my english. I've a little problem with samba 3.6.6 and NTFS volume. I've mounted an USB drive in NTFS format on my server, and all works fine (characters are OK, i can create folders with accents or ? like "cami?n", "mu?eca"...), but when i try to share that drive through samba, all special characters look wrong and i can't

some upper case letters with accent don't appear in file names
I have a backup server (Linux Debian 3.1) that connects to several Windows 2000 and 2003 servers shares with smbmount 3.0.14a. This is how I mount the shares: smbmount "\\\\win2000\\inetpubd" /mnt/win2000/ -o username=backups, password=mypwd If I list items with accents, this is a sample of how they appear on the mounted share: drwxr-xr-x 1 root root 4096 2005-12-01 16:45 D?but de

Redirected Folders not working for Desktop
James, First, I mis-spoke (typed?) in my previous message. Yes, my redirected folders are set up as \\mail.hprs.local\Users\%username%, just like you say. (Note, I've already been chastized about the .local thing -- too late). I did examine the event logs. For Favorites, Document, Photos, etc. I have Event 501 messages which say, "Successfully applied policy and redirected folder

Did you "hide" the share (browseable = no) Looks ok to me, what i see be low. And what i supsected. Event id 502. Do you see: Error details: “This security ID may not be assigned as the owner of this object.”. If so, or correct the rights, or set gpo. Or read throug this side, and fix your rights setup.

Charset Problem on the smbldap-groupadd
Helllo, I'm working on a factory placement which consists of writing a French how to for migration of an NT4 PDC to a RH AS 3 server PDC with Samba3+openLDAP backend. For the time being everything worked just smooth up to the net rpc vampire command. After several identification problems for the DSA accounts, I rebuilt the DSA entries and everything works smooth. I can use

Redirected Folders not working for Desktop
I have a problem I've not been able to figure out. I'm using Samba4 as the office AD/DC. I've set up the Redirected Folders policy to redirect Desktop, Favorites and Documents to \\mail.hprs.local. I set this up months ago and it works great for Documents and Favorites, but Desktop is not redirected (no Desktop): $ ls -l /redirectedFolders/Users/thisuser/ total 16 drwxrwx---+ 10

refresh problems when doing folder redirection for desktop
Hello, I have refresh problems when doing a folder redirection for the desktop. My desktop is being redirected to H:\desktop (H=home directory on the server, not on the local machine) and it works fine. However, as soon as a new file is being saved on the desktop, I need to hit F5 to refresh the view, it is not being automatically refreshed (i.e. the file is not being shown). I read a lot of

Character encoding mystery
Hi everyone, I have a very annoying character encoding problem. Have a look to this: # ls -l M*mo-1.* -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 8417218 6 sept. 2013 Mémo-1.aif -rwxr--r-- 1 hope hope 8417218 6 sept. 2013 Mémo-1.aif -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 363175 6 sept. 2013 Mémo-1.m4a -rwxr--r-- 1 hope hope 363175 6 sept. 2013 Mémo-1.m4a Yes, it looks like two files have exactly the same name, but

how to set folder redirection on Windows 7 with a Samba PDC
Hi, I have read that Windows 7 is using a new admx format and that it is not compatible with the old-school poledit. If I would like to stick with a Samba PDC, is there any elegant way to get Windows 7 client to obey the folder redirection(and possibly other rules) set using poledit & NTConfig.pol? I have been searching the mailing list, but there doesn't seems to be much detailed

R-alpha: ISO-latin-1 characters in strings -- print.default & PARSE(?) problems
There seems to be a problem in print.default with some ISO-latin1 characters (the chars AFTER ASCII in western Europe...) if they appear in strings. (no problem if they are part of a function comment, see below). Some of the characters lead to 4 character Hex-codes being printed instead: "û" ## ^u prints as "0xFB" If you use the funny characters in comments of functions,

Sweave and accents
Hello. I want to write my notes in Sweave in my own language (spanish). But my language has accents and when I run Sweave in R to translate my Snw file into the tex file the accents are translated into unrecognizable characters. For example, the word "cami?n" (truck) is translated into "cami??n" Somebody knows how can I do it? One solution I don't like is using a

After upgrading to 1.9.17p1 (Solaris 2.5.1) I am getting continuous errors like the following. I have numerous samba servers, one of which is configured as a wins server, 2 winNT servers (primary and backup, but not running as wins servers). These messages are constant, even on this Sunday night with virtually no network activity. Sep 7 23:09:15 deltoid nmbd[8169]: reply_netbios_packet:

8. You have join to this mail a text file with the few characters that don't = match. On Swat, it's easier. = I use Swat from my win98 box. When I write a share comment with some chara= cters, there are not translated properly inside smb.conf file. = When I read my smb.conf file, I noticed that for example a cp1252 characte= r like (0xC1) has been changed onto an ISO8859-15 character
