Hi,
In 3.0.23 and 3.0.23c in our domain controlled by samba with an

3.0.20 -> 3.0.23 SID/group error?? Won't connect.
Gerry, all:
HELP! On mandriva, I compiled samba from source and got it running, but
I cannot connect from windows. (see my post from earlier "[Samba] Compiling
and Configuring Samba for Mandrival")
I think this relates to the group/SID changes discussed in the release
notes. However, I'm not smart enough to figure it out. The tarball compiled
and installed fine. It

createlocalgroup: could not allocate a RID
Hello everybody.
I have configured a linux box with samba 3.0.25b
It's joined to a windows nt4 domain. It's running
winbindd.
Now I would like to create a local group with 'net
sam createlocalgroup group_name' and adding members
from the windows nt4 domain. I need this local group
so I can assign permission to file/directories.
This is my smb.conf:

cannot add new machines to domain
Hi,
i have running samba with ldap as a PDC. The PDC works fine, except
adding new computer to the domain. The Computer how was added 2-3 Years
ago works fine, but i cannot add new PCs to the domain.
The samba log says to remove the paramtere 'algorithmic rid base' and
use 'net groupmap add' and 'net setmaxrid'. The command "net setmaxrid"
is not existent.

Problems since 3.12.7: invisible files, strange rebalance size, setxattr failed during rebalance and broken unix rights
Hi,
after 2 years running GlusterFS without bigger problems we're facing
some strange errors lately.
After updating to 3.12.7 some user reported at least 4 broken
directories with some invisible files. The files are at the bricks and
don't start with a dot, but aren't visible in "ls". Clients still can
interact with them by using the explicit path.

Calculating sum of letter values
Hi all
If I have a string, say "ABCDA", and I want to convert this to the sum of the letter values, e.g.
A -> 1
B -> 2
etc, so "ABCDA" = 1+2+3+4+1 = 11
Is there an elegant way to do this? Trying something like
which(LETTERS %in% unlist(strsplit("ABCDA", "")))
is not quite correct, as it does not count repeated characters. I guess what I need is

Migrate machine accounts?
How do I migrate machine accounts from tdbsam backend to ldap backend?
I want to change the backend from tdbsam to ldap and I do not want to re-join each machine onto the domain.

upg. CentOS 7.5 to 7.6: unable to mount smb shares - samba NT domain member using ldap
Thank you Gordon for this tip but it does not solve my problem.
From smb.conf:
workgroup = NT4DOMAIN
netbios name = NT4MEMBER
I am able to connect to smb share from linux client:
smbclient //NT4MEMBER/share1 -U NT4MEMBER\\user1
but from windows machine it is not possible.
Correct command from linux client should be
smbclient //NT4MEMBER/share1 -U NT4DOMAIN\\user1
(user is from NT4DOMAIN, not

Confusing lstat() performance
Hi,
I have a gluster 3.10 volume with a dir with ~1 million small files in
them, say mounted at /mnt/dir with FUSE, and I'm observing something weird:
When I list and stat them all using rsync, then the lstat() calls that
rsync does are incredibly fast (23 microseconds per call on average,
definitely faster than a network roundtrip between my 3-machine bricks
connected via Ethernet).
But
