Lastest upgrade of smb on RedHat doesn't work
The latest upgrade of from samba 3.0.9 to samba 3.0.10 has caused
problems on my samba server.
On the Windows computers you can no longer see the WINS server ( the
RedHat server) in the Network Neighborhood, say server1. The
printers that we have added through the network neighborhood no
longer work.
One has to search for the full name of the server
( server1.xxx.xxx.edu) with the

Debugging samba/winbind SMB share
Hi,
I had an active-directory authentication based samba system up and running, working well. However, I tried to access an SMB share on the server a few days back and just get a windows login user/password prompt.
I'm trying to debug why theres a "system error".
PAM is configured for pam_winbind.so in /etc/pam.d/system-auth, and I can ssh into the system using a domain

Errors: Conversion error: Illegal multibyte sequence ...
Hello all,
I'm running samba server ?3.0.25b-1.el4_6.4 on the Red Hat Enterprise Linux
ES release 4 (Nahant Update 6). The server is set to be a part of the
Windows AD domain. The domain name is IIS. In the /var/log/samba/wb-IIS.log
I keep getting the messages similar to:

Populating the samba/ldap database
I'm working on getting Samba3 running in a RHEL4 environment. The
components are;
samba3-3.0.28-35
openldap-2.2.13-8.el4_6.4
smbldap-tools-0.9.4-1.el4.rf
I already have a working and functional ldap installation. The rub is
that the existing ldap accounts do not have any samba specific
attributes. Samba by Example assumes that I'm initially creating an ldap
database, where the

BSOD when writing from W2003 clients after SP2 has been installed
Hi,
We are running a RHEL4 x86_64 server, samba-3.0.25b-1.el4_6.4. The server is
running with essentially the same configuration since a year without
problems. Due to a hardware failure on the back-end SAN the samba-server was
moved to a different machine (same OS, same samba version, same config). At
about the same time we deployed SP2 on various W2300 machines (there are in
total about 50 W2003

Samba-Active Directory only returns default group
I have a RHEL 4.6 server with the Red Hat supplied Samba
3.0.25b-1.el4_6.4 packages (samba, samba-client, samba-common)
installed. I was able to bind this server to our Active Directory forest
but when I run "groups username" all I get is "username : domain users"
despite the fact our users are members of multiple groups in our AD
domain. However I can chgrp files/directories

Samba and the InterWeb
Hi,
We have an office-based Windows-locked publishing system whose only
delivery mechanism is to write to a local filesystem, and a requirement
for its output to be available to a collocated production environment
comprising Solaris and Linux boxes. The 'obvious' solution was to run a
Samba server on one of the collocated Linux boxes and mount the share it
provides on the relevant

The specified network name is no longer available 3.0.25 RHEL4
I have a reproducible intermittent error large site - "The specified network name is no longer available".
This happens when copying large files. Below is part of log level 10 output & strace. Sorry for the long posting. I will probably need to put the loglevel 10 attached to a bugzilla - but thought I would try the lists initially.

diagnosing broken pipe errors
I'm hoping to get some guidance diagnosing intermittent smbd
errors that have been cropping up in the last 2 months. They
are sporadic, difficult to reproduce, and don't reveal much of
a pattern so far except that the majority are generated by a
couple of clients, although several clients appear to be
affected. Typical symptom on the client is a hang when
attempting to look at the share

IP Appears Rather Than Servername
Since we updated to 3.0.6 we are having an oddity that the server IP
appears in printer UNCs rather than the IP address. For instance
printer \\barbel\grdps appears in the printer status box as "192.168.1.9
on grdps". It still works, but this is both odd and unsightly. DNS
forward and reverse is working. It does this on both our 3.0.6
servers. On adding \\sardine\pdfconv print

servername v. IP as domain name
When I navigate to my page using the server IP address, everything
works perfectly. When I navigate to the page using servername,
everything works fine except for the Ajax calls. I get the error,
"This page is accessing information that is not under its control."
Apparently this is because servername and IP address are being
considered different domains. Does anyone know how I can set

CTDB + Likewise-open : What servername when joining AD?
Hi,
[Context : ubuntu 11.11 64bits, cman, clvmd, gfs2, ctdb, samba,
likewise-open, all running fine except...]
I've setup ctdb to manage public_addresses (to manage one virtual ip
actually), and I've explicitely told smb.conf that
netbios name = foobar_cluster
I've done that *after* I've manage to make samba, likewise-open and AD
to work nicely together.
I guess now all the
