%macros not expanded in ldap attributes?
samba-3.0.8 Are the % macros not expanded in LDAP attributes? For example, the following is the only way sambaProfilePath works: \\SERVER\share\path If I substitute sambaProfilePath with, say, \\%L\%U\path, then it doesn't work anymore, although the same string works with logon path in smb.conf.

Problems with samba and profile syncing from various windows versions
Thanks for pointing this out. I have read that again, now my profiles do not have "vfs objects = full_audit" and disabled the csc policy. I have verified that I have set up my profiles share properly and that it has all the right entitlements. I have reset the entitlements for the users that have issues (as Administrator right click on the folder and do the dance there with Windows).

roaming and local profiles on same domain
I have samba 3 configured and running fine as a PDC with LDAP as the back end user database. I have most users using roaming profiles but there are a few I would like to be able to only have local profiles. Is it possible to configure samba to use both types of profile rather than one or the other. I have the profile path set on each user account in LDAP as the field

upgrade 3.0.1 -> 3.0.2, problem with homes-share
Hi! We are using Samba 3 in SuSE-linux 8.2 with ldap. After upgrading from 3.0.1 to 3.0.2 we got following problem: When users log-in homes-share is not allways reachable, so automatic homedrive-mapping and roaming profiles doesn't work. This doesn't happen everytime, but quite often. And after login users can map their homedrives manually. Users have following attributes in LDAP

sambaProfilePath
dumb question... if I put \\SERVER\PROFILES\%u in sambaProfilePath for some user and that user logs in for the first time, it literally creates a %u directory in the proper folder and not the uid name. Am I dumb? Must I actually hard code each one in? Craig

Unexpected I(NULL) output
Hi all, I believe there is an issue with passing NULL to the function I(). class(NULL) # "NULL" (as expected) print(NULL) # NULL (as expected) is.null(NULL) # TRUE (as expected) According to the documentation I() should return a copy of its input with class "AsIs" preprended: class(I(NULL)) # "AsIs" (as expected) print(I(NULL)) # list() (not expected!

Roaming Profiles under LDAP backend
Hi, To this point I have been careful about mixing Win2K and WinXP profiles when using samba as a PDC/Profile server. Settings I have used have been like the following... logon path = \\%L\profiles\%u\%m (in smb.conf) with a typical profile directory as follows... drwx------ 14 test wheel 512 Mar 14 11:32 Win2K drwx------ 17 test wheel 512 Oct 27 18:22 WinXP lrwxr-xr-x 1 test

Roaming Profile problems
Hi, we are using samba 3.0.10-17 with openlddap 2.2.6-37.22 as backend. We use roaming profiles, but because of problems with different operating systems and the profile size, we want to use locale profiles. I tried to change logon path in smb.conf in an emty string, but no changes, if I delete this entry in smb.conf, samba use a default value and this is on the server. So I tried to change

%a substitution broken ????
Hi there, I have a strange problem with my profiles. They aren't saved in /profiles/WinXP but in /profiles/%a instead.... I have a "sambaProfilePath: \\stperay\profiles\%a\dgenthia" in my ldap and it always ran with samba 3.0.20. I also have "logon path = \\stperay\profiles\%a\%U" in my smb.conf.... as in the old smb.conf. Is the %a feature broken ? Thanks ;-) Eric

backup-script/backup_samba4
Hi! i am testing Louis van Belle backup script. it works quite well. Thank you for sharing this! https://github.com/thctlo/samba4/blob/master/backup-script/backup_samba4 but i think there is an error in the KEEP_DAYS code as the string '\-$KEEP_DAY1\-|\-$KEEP_DAY2-' is not interpolated so the egrep does exclude anything from rm call. So no files older than $DAYS are kept... # Remove

Undefined behavior of head() and tail() with n = 0
In addition, signed zeroes only exist for floating point numbers - the bit patterns for as.integer(0) and as.integer(-0) are identical. the host has first an address in dhcp pool between 192.168.1.100-200 (it is not known by dhcpd with a fixed ip address) i would like to add a dhcpd record to provide always same ip to host (ie fixed-address 192.168.1.1) when host is joined to my samba domain in NT PDC, i can do that with  "add machine script" in smb.conf but in AD DC, this script is not run so i m searching

Samba/Netscape Directory Server
For whatever reason I am trying to configure the following environment and am running into trouble towards the end of things. Hopefully I am overlooking something basic, any assistance would be greatly appreciated. 1. Redhat AS 2.1 server running Netscape Directory Server 5.2 2. RHEL3 system using Samba 3.0.8 acting as a PDC integrated with the Netscape LDAP server 3. Win2k/XP clients as

Samba and LDAP - which attributes are mandatory which optional
Hallo, I'm asking myself, which LDAP attributes are mandatory which optional for user and workstation accounts. After using the smbldap-populate command there where different attributes set than for adding users with the smbldap-useradd command. --- snip --- sambaAcctFlags: sambaHomeDrive: sambaHomePath: sambaKickoffTime: sambaLMPassword: sambaLogoffTime: sambaLogonScript: sambaLogonTime:

what the H is this virbr0?
Hi, I just tested in the lab the new CentOS 5.1 Xen and find out it breaks network connectivity, at least in my setup. It seems it is somehow making use of the 3.1 Xen version (altought I am not sure about that) but whatever changes it introduce is not documented at the location one would expect, the obvious new thing (at least for me) is this thing I will call out of guessing a virtual
