complete newbie sid problems
Hi, I'm trying to set up samba with ldap authorization on a windows network. I have samba running on one linux host, and openldap on another. I have used smbldap-tools to populate my directory and used smbldap-useradd to create an initial testuser on the samba host. I can ssh in to the samba host as the testuser ok, and get in to the testuser directory (ie. there are no permission

3.0.14 to 3.0.23c Invalid SID
Trying to upgrade from 3.0.14a to 3.0.23c. So far, things seem to be working, but the following entries appear in the smbd error log. The test machine is a domain client (server is still 3.0.14). The sids listed are exactly as they appear in the ldap tables. What makes them invalid? Anyone know. [2006/10/19 11:34:10, 1] passdb/pdb_interface.c:pdb_default_uid_to_rid(1227) Could not peek rid

Samba LDAP troubleshooting
Hello I'm hoping someone can provide some insight, sample snippet from smb.conf and the samba log. Password authentication is working & succeeding, complains about an invalid SID which I know is the trust relationship that is formed between server and client, this is a duplicate ldap database from a samba domain controller. On the topic, anyone have a good book to recommend on Samba, I

Samba Panic
Below is a log file of a panic that occurs on two different sites running Debian Stable Samba 3.2.5. The problem is triggered by Sophos Control Centre doing it's hourly check for updates, and as SCC is running on a user's PC in both cases causes problems for the user. I've tried everything and cannot figure it out - anyone got any pointers/ideas what to do next ? [2009/05/18

Locating the MACHINE.SID file...
Hello, I am setting up our backup Linux server to act a BDC to our Linux PDC. In the directions that are available within the Swat Online Help... There is a section that states that the private/MACHINE.SID file must be copied over exactly as is to the Samba BDC in order for that machine to act as a Samba BDC to a Samba PDC. For the life of me, I have been unable to locate that

Locating the MACHINE.SID fil
Additional Info... I am beginning to think that a file called 'secrets.tdb' might be what I am looking for. Inside that file is something mentioning SID. Of course, it also mentions the name of the PDC. If that is the file I am supposed to copy over. Then it is done. However, I still need a little more input for setting up a Samba BDC. With a Samba BDC, should I leave the

Transfering Machine Accounts / MACHINE.SID
I have a Samba 2.2.7 PDC, and I am now trying to set up a new 3.0.1 server. I want this machine to act as a BDC initially and replicate all the accounts over. When I followed the howto it said to use smbpasswd -S to transfer the machine SID and then to replicate the smbpasswd file to the new server. This has caused two major problems: 1) the smbpasswd command does not support the -S option

When is a machine SID created?
I have been having a problem with 'net getdomainsid' on a machine that I set up to be a BDC. # net getdomainsid Could not fetch local SID tdbdump shows that there is no machine SID in secrets.db, so I'm thinking that I overlooked the step that creates a machine SID. What creates the machine SID and when? Also, is it the hostname or the netbios name that samba uses as the machine
