need wins understanding
Here is my setup.
I have two samba domain controllers on the same subnet. It's a
172.16.12.0 subnet.
First domain "STAFF"
Second domain "PATRONS"
They both have wins enabled and all clients have broadcasting disabled.
Can someone tell me if I will have a problem? If so please give
some kind of example. I am really trying to learn why

File permission
Hello all,
I think my file permission are completely screwed up? I created a
file called text file called test as root user and have done chgrp on
that file to a group called admin. I have added the users ozzie and
root to that group. I then did a chmod g+wr on the test file and ozzie
can still not write to the file. If I take away read access from the
group, ozzie can still read the

IP issues with my samba server
One of my samba Domain controlers is trying to reach two IP addresses of
192.168.221.1 and 192.168.91.1. The samba server is not even on a 192.168
subnet. It is currnetly on a 172.16.12.x subnet. I have never seen a
problem like this before. Please someone point me in the right direction.
I discovered this problem by looking at my firewall logs, then I looked in
the /var/log/samba/nmbd.log and

Users can't pause or cancel print jobs
Hello all,
I am running Samba 3.0.9 with CUPS 1.1.17. When my windows user try to
pause print jobs it does not work and gives them an error "Error Processing
Command" in Windows. If they try to cancel a print job it doesn't give any
error. It just disappears from the print queue and print anyway.
Could someone point me in the right direction?
Thanks all

Hello all,
I am doing some work for a public library that is still running Samba

believe it is generated when the domain administrator is loging off. The
workstation seems to be working fine, I would just like to know why I am
getting this error. If anyone could please point me in the right direction

Logging on to the network - one samba, two subnets.
Hi.
I have Samba set up to serve W95 PCs. Kids "log in to the
network" using their Unix password. Students get their
Unix home dir mounted as network drive X: when login is
successful.
This all happens on IP subnet 192.168.1.1/24
So far, so good.
We are thinking about adding another IP subnet - say
192.168.2.1/24. Of course, the two subnets will be
connected with a router. It

WINS server usage
I have a class C address space divided into 3 subnets. I have a
Samba server on each subnet and all 3 subnets are under the same
Domain/Workgroup. My browsing works fine. But when the frame relay
between the subnets goes down, the 2 subnets that don't have the WINS
server local cant find their local Samba server.
Do I need to have a WINS server on each subnet to keep this
from happening? Is

Issue joining a PC to a Samba domain from a subnet other the one that Samba PDC
Hello,
Thanks in advance for taking the time to look at this issue. We are
currently experiencing an issue with PC's not being able to join a Samba PDC
controlled domain when the PC's are located outside of the subnet that the
Samba PDC is part of. The PC's are located in the same physical building as
the PDC, connecting over a Cisco VLAN to the Samba PDC subnet. For example,

Browsing across subnets - some more problems
Hi all,
I am still battling to get browsing across subnets to work.
I just need some clarification on some issues. I understand the
following things to be the case, please correct me if I am wrong:
- Machines on a subnet will periodically announce their existance by
broadcasting to everyone their identity
- Other machines will hear these broadcasts, and add the machines to
their browse lists.

I have a machine called pendor, that's running my DNS, DHCPD,

well as my masquerading firewall/router to the dialup line. Yep, this
machine does it all.
