My Documents Folder Redirection to Samba Share
Does anyone know how to setup the smb.conf file for the my document
folder redirection in windows. If I point it to a root share, with a
Microsoft file server, it will automatically create a folder for each
user with a my documents folder under that. How can I get that to
happen with a samba share. Using Debian Etch and Samba 3.0.24 and
fairly new to samba. The default smb.conf makes mention

Updating System Policy Templates
Hi all,
I am going to be in the process of updating my custom system policy
templates (probably within a month or two) and I am asking for what
policies anyone is in need of to help them deploy samba as a domain
controller.
Currently I basically have a single template.adm file, a few people have
asked me to separate them into a few different files that would serve an
overall single purpose - I

Migration to Dovecot
Hello all
Tomorrow is the day , I'm gonna migrate all our mailboxes and imap folders
from our old mailhub to the new one.
In the same time I will migrate from UW to Dovecot , I've read all
the stuff about it on the Dovecot web site.
I have one question , do I have to care about the .imap cache directory
created by Dovecot in any way or will it be "all automatic" when starting

policy files
Hi,
I think I have two questions - one which is samba and one which is windows
policy files. I'll try to limit this question to the samba side but will
give the full picture for completeness.
I'm trying to implement a simple policy to redirect a few simple folders
(for starters). I have a policy file called NTConfig.POL that is available
on my share \\wilson\netlogon (wilson is the

how to create NTConfig.POL?
Is there a way to create an NTConfig.POL file without having access to an
NT4, w2k or w2k3 server?
Is there a way to do it in linux? Or a winxp/9x workstation?

Roaming profiles not supporting quota
Dear Group,
I'm using samba 3.x as a PDC, and I'm using linux system quota v2 for samba.
Here is my problem: if a user copies a big file to the desktop (bigger than the quota set for that
user), when he logs off, the profile wont syncronize with the server with the message "disk full".
Is there a way to let the WinXp client to understand how much space is available also for

Win7 Folder Redirection For Roaming Profiles
Hi Everyone.
I've read a few posts (mostly a repeat of the same 2) on win7 folder
redirection but I'd like to ask here nonetheless.
What is the proper method for implementing folder redirection for
roaming profiles in Samba3?

Thanks,

Re: roaming profiles and folder redirection: programs 'not responding' (solved)
I seem to have solved the problem. While I had the 'wins' entry in
/etc/nsswitch.conf of the samba machine, winbind wasn't installed, so
it wasn't able to do a netbios lookup of the client machine. Since I
fixed this problem, the 'not responding' problem didn't occur anymore.

Re: XP Pro - Folder Redirection / Roaming Profiles Question
Hi folks, I running samba 3.x in PDC mode with an ldap
backend. Works great! I use roaming profiles with
folder redirection on win2k, no problem. Here's the
issue, I have a few machines that run xp pro that I
need to give the users domain access but NOT roaming
profiles. So, I have disabled roaming profiles on the
pcs by using the "no propagate changes to the server"
and "only

roaming profiles and folder redirection: programs 'not responding'
Heiko,
I suggest you concentrate on the re-directed folders - not the roaming
profile - because the roaming profile is copied to the local hard disc
when you log on - so throughout your session it is locally stored. You
might try un-directing your re-directed folders one at a time (over a
period of a week) to see which one appears to be affecting performance.

Samba4: Upload an Administrative Policy Template?
We'd like to add an adm (administrative template) to our Samba4 server.
I see where the .adm files are in the filesystem -
/opt/s4/var/locks/sysvol/micore.us/Policies/{ED429C7D-156A-4F75-B21D-92DB8E10ACAB}/Adm/conf.adm
- but how can I add a new ADM file?
The ADM file in question allows the controlling of IE Favorites and a
few other items on XP (not available in the default templates for

Samba PDC, OpenLDAP, and passwd chat
Hey List,
I'm using Samba 3.0.24 and OpenLDAP 2.3.30 (with the ppolicy and
smbk5pwd overlays).
While testing Samba as a PDC with an OpenLDAP backend, I've hit a snag
on password change. I currently have the following in my smb.conf
related to password changes:
passwd program = /usr/bin/ldappasswd -x -W -S -D
uid=%u,ou=Users,dc=example,dc=com
passwd chat = "*Enter

Samba 3.4, Windows 7, Roaming profiles and Folder redirection
Hello,
I'm quite new to Samba administration and I've inherited a working samba
setup with roaming profiles however the login and logout times for users has
been growing and I'm starting to think it's time do something about it. I'm
thinking redirect some folders to a samba share on the network will speed up
the login and logout times.
Our setup has 25 Windows 7 workstations

Folder Redirection, Roaming Profiles and Working Offline
Hi,
I have been trying to use samba for a while as a way to have an
identical desktop/startmenu/profile/favourites/etc on multiple PCs.
Samba is setup as the PDC and I can join the domain and login.
The problems started firstly when I wanted to have some sort of caching
and also logon concurrently to different pcs with the same user. The
main problem being that whichever computer I log off

Sync passwords unix/smb with FDS backend?
Using simple authentication I have been able to tie FDS to Samba 3.x.24.
Knowing that the unix passwd and smb passwd are different, dare I ask
how difficult it would be to have them sync? Most of my users are using
netatalk w/ posix user info and MD5 password. I would like to swing this
over to samba without the worries of two passwords per user. I have seen
blips on this but not directly related

Roaming Profile & Folder Redirection Problems
I'm running Samba 3.0.7 on SuSE 9.1 with OpenLDAP for auth.
I've been mostly following along Terpstra's Book "Samba 3 By Example", as lots
of other people here have been.
The three big problems I'm having are:
1) After a Windows XP user logs out for the first time, upon next login they
get an error message saying "Windows cannot log you in because your profile

Samba with a lot of users (1500-2000) : experience ? hints ? references ?
Dear all,
I have installed many PC infrastructures with Samba and Windows roaming
profiles working successfully and fast with installations of around 100
users.
But now, a customer of mine is asking if this is possible for around
1500 users. Of course I know it is possible, but I would like to know if
some people here already did such an installation, if it requires more
