Cannot seem to get printer driver delivery working from Vista 64 bit systems - Samba 3.0.25b
Version: Samba 3.0.25b
OS: CentOS 5 x86_64
I've had printer driver delivery working OK to 32 bit clients for a while. I
used cupsaddsmb to set that up originally.
We recently added some 64 bit Vista client machines (yay).
I created an x64 directory on the print$ share and followed the Samba HowTo
instructions for finding and uploading a printer driver. The files are from

Vista, 35 second login delay, domain only.
Hello,
I've spent time trying to find an answer to this one, but no luck.
The main problem is that when any user logs into Vista with a domain
account, there will be ~35 second delay where the system just sits at
the welcome screen with the spinning circle. (after typing their
password)
This happens on Vista sp1, and earlier. Also on Samba 3.0.24, 3.0.28 and 3.2.

Vista problem, with ADS samba
I am running samba 3.0.28 on linux servers using ADS security, without
any problem.
However when I added a vista workstation to the mix, it simply cannot
connect to my printers. I can connect to my data/ or disk shares again
without any problem from both 64bit vista, and 32 bit vista.
When I try to access my printers though I get "Windows cannot connect

Vista can't use samba hosted printer drivers
Is anyone else seeing Vista (final) will not "connect" to a samba-hosted
printer? I'm getting error 0x00000057. I can connect to the port only
and install a local driver, though. It's just that the drivers will not load
correctly. The drivers do load partly, because I can see driver-specific
attributes if I go to "Properties" rather than "Connect". But a test

Vista SP1, Server 2008 joining NT4/Samba Domain
Hello!
It seems, that Vista SP1 and Server 2008 cannot join an NT4/Samba-domain.
Vista once could join before SP1, if one did some modifications to the
system (LAN Manager authentication level, Encryption of secure channel).
But these workarounds do not seem to work with SP1 anymore.
Microsoft points out that joining NT4-domains with Vista SP1 and Server
2008 is not supported/tested

Name Resolution (Network Browsing) in Samba4 server with Vista Client?
Hello,
I'm trying to get a samba4 server to show up while "network browsing"
on a Vista client, but with no success. I've scoured the web and tried
many things, but most documentation is for samba3. I can however mount
the samba4 share using it's UNC path, but I really want netbios name
resolution to work.
With samba 3.0.28, as soon as I start smbd and nmbd, I can

WG: Windows vista ultimate samba 3.0.31
I found the solution:
I tried the srvmgr tool from microsoft to get connected to my samba 3
domain (from an XP client).
And this tool told me the same "There is no PDC found for your domain.
You may go on but but your rights may be
Restricted." As I logged on I saw that both my PDC and BDC where BDCs.
I stopped my BDC. Logged on to my PDC and remembering that I had also

Windows Vista 64-bit support
Where does the R build for Vista X64 stand? The last update message is
from July last year (see [R] Improved Windows Vista compatibility from
Prof Brian Ripley on 2007-07-11). Is it likely to happen in 2008? I
suspect that more people will start using it as Vista is adopted more
widely. And I'd certainly use it for large genomics data sets.
Thanks,

Samba 3.0.25b + Vista Printers
Hello there
I've just upgraded our Samba server to 3.0.25b and am still having
problems with Windows Vista clients accessing printers. XP/2000
clients continue to work fine - but Vista refuses to connect to Samba
printers that have drivers hosted on the Samba server.
To clarify, as part of the netlogon batch job, clients attempt to
connect to Samba-hosted printer shares, and if they

Vista roaming profiles...
Hi everybody,
after many weeks of searching/trying, I still can't manage to get vista to use/save roaming profiles with samba as PDC...
It has apparently worked a few times in the beginning since the profiles directories are populated.
Could it be related to a Vista update or SP1?
Here's what I did so far:

Opening "Printers and Faxes" crashes explorer.exe on Vista x64
Hello everyone,
First time on this list, because I can't seem to find anything about my
problem. I hope someone here will be able to help me.
I have a file and print server running an old Ubuntu 7.04 x86 and Samba
3.0.2.4 that came with it. (I tried upgrading samba once, but it kept
crashing, so I went back to this default version, because it works very
well.)
The problem is, as the title

Tinc on 64-bit Vista
Guus,
Just thoguht I'd let you know -- Tinc works fine under 64-bit Vista!
Obtaining a 64-bit signed TAP/TUN driver was a bit of an ordeal. It appears
that the OpenVPN guys have forked out the money to get the TAP-win64 driver
signed for kernel modules.
I installed OpenVPN, then installed Tinc -- no problems whatsoever.
The OpenVPN installer does a check to see if it's running on

Vista (pre-installed OEM editions) creating new files or folders on network shares
Hi,
This post is to prevent other people that are having trouble with Vista
clients from going down a blind alley investigating problems in their samba
configurations.
After some research I have found (see link below) that there is a general
problem for pre-installed OEM editions of Vista Business (and possibly other
vista versions) in creating files and folders on network shares.

bad performance Vista <-> Samba over gbit
Hi,
I've a strange issue with the performance of file transfers between a
Samba server and a Vista client.
My configuration looks like this:
fileserver: Samba 3.3 on FreeBSD 6.2 ----- gbit switch -----
workstation: Vista x64
When transfering files between the two PCs, I get abount 6.5 to 7 MB /
sec. On my last Vista installation I got about 40 MB / sec. I've tried
the following:
