OT Windows policy question
List, Thanks tremendously to JC and JHT for guiding (nay, kicking) me toward getting ACLs to work on RHAS3. Reading the RH sysadmin guide about ACLs and searching elsewhere, as well as thinking for myself, were also a pre. Now for something completely different: High school in Amsterdam Netherlands: - RHAS3 - Samba 3.0.11 RPC, not ADS (no way we're upgrading while the bug reports keep

mandatory profiles, group policies, Samba3 PDC winxp Clients
Hello all, I've been trying to figure out what the best way of doing the group policy thing is. We are running samba 3 on slackware 9 with winxp clients. We are a school. i'm unclear on how much AD is actually supported... OU GPO all that. so i decided to go the "administrative template" way (used to be .pol files) I'm thinking of having the students run off of a

windows shortcut for "Group Policy Editor"
Hey all, according to the whitepaper http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc736591%28v=ws.10%29.aspx I would like to a windows shortcut on the desktop that allows me to open and run the "Group Policy Editor" *for my samba4/AD domain*. The shortcut command should be: "gpedit.msc /gpobject:"LDAP://CN={31B2F340-016D-11D2-945F-00C04FB984F9},CN=Policies,CN=mydom,

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
So only for old NT4 style PDC - BDC environment one needs poledit. While AD's (with virtual pdc role servers) can use the MMC.? We got a pure Samba AD environment and thus it should work. Be it that we might not have all mmc templates (not yet checked that). Thanks Viktor. -----Original message----- From: Viktor Trojanovic?<viktor at troja.ch> Sent: Wednesday 21st October 2020

pfifo_fast priomap
Hi list, I have a quick question about the priority mapping of tos bits. The manpage of tc-prio shows a nice table with tos bits and the band they are mapped to: TOS Bits Means Linux Priority Band ------------------------------------------------------------ 0x0 0 Normal Service 0 Best Effort 1 0x2 1 Minimize Monetary Cost 1 Filler

How Can I create a group policies with Samba?
Not sure if you are asking about server or client. Are you asking about : 1. Pushing GPOs via Linux SaMBa Server to Windows machines? 1. i believe this has been somewhat doable for years using a windows workstation mmc pointed at a Samba Server. 2. Pushing GPOs via Linux SaMBa Server to Linux machines? 1. At least four years ago, LikeWise.com had some very limited GPO

Windows2000 policies in a Samba PDC
I'm installing a Samba 3.0 PDC with LDAP backend in a classroom in a Spanish school. Client workstations are Windows2000 and, in the future, there will be Linux clients. I'm following the Samba Project Documentation book (also known as Samba Howto Collection). The document is wonderfull, but there is a part that I don't fully understand, maybe because, as you can read, I'm not a

gpedit.msc as centralized policy for 2k/xp clients

USAGE OF ADD USER TO GROUP SCRIPT
Hi list I've started playing with Samba 3.0.20b (compiled with only with --with-acl-support). It's a fresh install on a clean machine and samba is setup as a Standalone server, I've tried using the TDBSAM and SMBPASSWD backends (don't have access to an LDAP server). At the moment I am testing - I have not got as far as using any of the new privilege options. All administration of

Alternative section to the HOWTO...
IMHO, the priomap explanation in the 9.2.1.1. of the LARTC HOWTO is not clear enough. I only understood it''s real behavior until I read this document from Russell Stuart: http://ace-host.stuart.id.au/russell/files/tc/doc/tc/priority.txt So, based in this information, I''ve prepared an alternative priomap explanation for this section of the HOWTO, if you like it as it is I could

Organization of Users in Samba4
Hello, I am working on migrating from OpenLDAP using the inetOrgPerson schema to Samba4. I would like to continue to provide backwards compatibility with our existing authentication service. In OpenLDAP, users are all contained inside the People organizational unit and referenced by uid, for example: dn: uid=myuser,ou=People,dc=example,dc=com When using samba-tool to add a user, it places the

Policies for AD clients (still poledit only ?).
I'm creating a deploy plan, for strict client policies (to comply to ISO standards and security) For mixed win 7 enterprise and win 10 enterprise on a Samba Active Directory. On the lookout if Samba would be any different towards client policies. I did some googling, and got pointed to old samba articles of 2007: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_System_Policies_with_Samba

Group Policy on Samba / Linux / OpenLDAP or another directory (yes, you can)
Heya, I'm a trainer for Red Hat, preparing to teach a course on nifty directory services, and have been doing a little research on related matters. I stumbled upon last weeks thread re: group policy on Linux / Samba machines and thought you folks might be interested in the following. "username map" parameter not working after upgrade to SAMBA 3
I have been using the "username map" parameter for some time on various versions of Samba 2, and it has worked nicely. Last week I upgraded to Samba 3 and integrated with Active Directory. Since I am using Solaris 8, and "nsswitch.conf" doesn't support winbindd, I am using the "add user script" parameter to add users. What is happening is that users in
