Can't change password change dates with PDBEDIT
I'm setting up a Samba server using CentOS 4's (RedHat Enterprise Linux) standard version (v.3.0101411). I want to be able to force users to change their password upon first logging in and to have to change them after a certain period of time (per user, not system-wide). The problem is that the pdbedit commands don't seem to be registering at all in the database. If I enter the

Newbie looking to move from Netware to Linux/Samba
I'm looking to move my companies server from an old Netware 5.0 file server to a Linux/Samba server on new hardware. Since my companies' systems are not mission critical (I can afford to be down for a few hours at a time after a switch-over) I feel I have the tolerance for some problems in getting it installed. Is this something I should be able to handle on my own (I installed the NW

Opening "Printers" causes incoming packets from different ports
When I open the "Printers and Faxes" folder in Windows to view print queues my firewall gets a bunch of incoming packets from the server each from an ever increasing port number. (It is now up to 32840.) These are going to local ports 139 and 445. (The netbios ports.) Is this normal behavior? Should I be allowing these access to the system? Thanks in advance

The pc is a PDC and I?ve configured samba like I could see in this easy manual: http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=6684 (before this, I write for each pc : adduser -g "group" -d /dev/null -s /dev/null netbiosname$ > smbpasswd -a -m netbiosname ) My domain admin group is called smbadmins. I only have two kind of

Delete glitch?
Hey, everyone. I'm running Samba 2.2.8a on a Debian Linux 3.0 box and for some reason, when someone tries to delete something they can't, it does give them the access denied message the first time. When they try to do it again, no message appears and it seems to be deleted (it disappears from the list), but when they refresh the list, it appears again. My file system is as follows

Windows access problems
Hello, I had the pleasure of installing a new Linux(RH8.0)/Samba(2.2.7a) server (as a PDC) at one of our locations this week. They previously were accessing a shared drive from a Win2k Pro. machine. The migration did not go very smooth. Most things have been resolved, but we have some strange issues that are still causing problems, which I was hoping someone out there would have some insight

How Is Administrator Treated?
I have a couple of Samba 2.2 servers, in different locations, configured as NT Domain Controllers, but I'm experiencing some problems with logging on to the domains as Administrator in order to perform some administration tasks, such as configuring antivirus software on workstations. I won't go into the details here; I think the basic problem is my lack of understanding of how the

Samba 3 - domain admins (not root)?
I'm trying to work out how I can create domain administrators with Samba 3. I currently have the following in smb.conf domain admin group = @smbadmins domain admin users = root jbb User "root" can do administrator stuff on the domain and any local machines it logs in on. Now I want to make a user a member of the administrators group for the domain, so I've added them

HOWTO for setting up Samba as a PDC
Hello fellow list members, does anyone knows of a good HOWTO (or a book) for setting up Samba as a PDC? I have been dealing around with the Samba HOWTO collection, but to be honest, this is a hard job. There are some errors in it and descriptions are not this good. I even don't know what all the tools are for. I'm really experienced in Linux server stuff, but this one drives me mad.

Directories with rights granted to everybody are always accessible. Rights were granted from within Windows 7 to a unix-group named "g_all". Share mappings with error 85
Hi, all. I have just installed a Samba AD-DC, with a file server. I know that this is not ideal, but this is what I could do now. I have many shares and now, with windows 10 clients I face a problem: the first time the user logs in, all maps work. From this point ahea, no more mappings and the error 85, which informs that the drive letter has already been used. The mappings are in a logon.bat

smbldap and samba as a PDC

I read many guides, howto's, etc. but I can't get around with the solution... I have seen an older message to another list (mail.gna.org) asking for the same problem that I have, it was: -
