problems xp joining samba pdc
Morning,
I have three machines, two xp and one win2k, that join the samba pdc fine.
I have tried to join others to this same samba pdc using the same
accounts for authentication without success. The xp machine first says
the user does not exist, I click ok and go back to the screen for the
domain account authorized to join the domain and press ok (or next) again
and this time the xp box says the

attempted upgrade this weekend
Morning,
This weekend I attempted an upgrade of my primary samba server from 3.0.24
to 3.3.3. When testing this primary server after the upgrade I had a
few issues, so rolled back the upgrade until I can find solutions. This
server also has the OpenLDAP server local to and co-located with samba.
The two things that initially didn't seem right are that each time I

AD Integrated authentication
Hello list,
i'm going to try very hard not to rant here, but i've been trying to get Samba working for 3 days, and it's just not happening. Let me start from the beginning. i'm just a lowly Windows admin but i've been doing this for 10 years, so i'm pretty sure i know what i'm doing (present situation excepted, clearly). i've got RedHat AS4 and a primarily

problems with roaming profiles
I have a samba 3 domain running for a while and have noticed that
desktop.ini is displayed often on login and that my personal desktop is
not being sync'd with my repository. Last week I was building a new box
for a user and am converting this same user to a domain profile at the
same time. I have found that the user's romaining profile is not being
created on the samba server. The user

trying to get incremental backups working
So I'm trying to write up a short script to do some backups over rsync.
The goal is to have multiple client machines push the backups to the
backup server nightly. The backup server will have a complete copy of the
selected directories as well as revisions for the last 7 days.
Here is the brief script I have. Btw if you're wondering about all the
variables, I eventually want to set it to

Migrate Samba 3.0x tdb to Samba-3.0.2a ldapsam
Hi guys/girls,
How are you ?
I'm looking at migrating my Samba-3.0.1 server which has the standard tdb
backend to Samba-3.0.2a with an LDAP backend.
I plan to use nss_ldap too.
What would be the best way of doing this ? Any assistance would be greatly
appreciated.
Kindest regards
David Wilson

where to submit new logcheck rules?
Hi,
I've got a few logcheck ignore.d rules that I'd like to submit, one
example is sqlgrey. /usr/share/doc/logcheck/README.maintainer talks
about shipping the rules inside the package itself, so I could file a
request with sqlgrey.
However, that doesn't work because of course I don't have all the
packages I use on my network installed on my loghost. In fact, I believe
that

Bug#442244: logcheck-database: should include the filters from cyrus-imapd-2.2
Package: logcheck-database
Version: 1.2.54
Severity: normal
The included filters for cyrus (/etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/cyrus) are very minimal. The cyrus-imapd-2.2 has a more
extensive ruleset (there's a /etc/logcheck/ignore.d.server/cyrus2_2 file in that package).
Please copy over the filters from cyrus-imapd-2.2. I'm running logcheck on a loghost, which doesn't run cyrus

log messages to a specific file
I am trying to configure syslog.conf to send messages from one of my hosts
to a select file for that host. The host is currently sending messages to
the syslog server and they are being logged but I would like to have all
the messages from this host go to a separate file. FreeBSD 4.9-RELEASE

Hi Friends,
I am running most of my company's Linux Servers on Centos 4.x/5.x 32
and 64-bit. I am now trying to configure a centralized logging server
where logs of all the linux servers will be stored and also I want to
store all the logs on the local server aka means logs will be sent to
the central log server but also will be stored on the local server.
The reason for storing the logs

Dealing with 2 SIP providers
Hi,
I have a question of using 2 SIP providers. Let's say I have provider A and
provider B, and I would like my calls to go to A, and then B if A wasn`t
available
Something like this would work:
exten => 1234,1,Dial(SIP/providerA)
exten => 1234,2,Dial(providerB)
exten => 1234,3,Hangup
But what if I want to put in a delay? If I put 30 seconds on each of them,
I'll wait a

Feature Suggestion - scp don't decrypt file at destination unecrypt on copy back switch
Hi all,
Please pardon me if this has been discussed already on this list.
I searched on "destination" and did not find a hit.
The problem I am trying solve is having backups on a remote server
that even root cannot not read. I have seen lot's of specialized file
systems and volume drivers for various operating systems. But being
that all files are already scp'd to the

Hi, I tried it also because it's an old question which has never worked
for me. Instead it creates copies and not hard links:

2nd smb server
Hi,
i have already search for three days now but i can't find any tips. I am running a Samba PDC based on smb 3.0.23. No i want to integrate a second samba server which should serve serveral client, just to decrease the load on the pdc. This should not be a BDC, just a domain member. For user management i use openLDAP. Well, what do i need for this scenario? Do I need winbind or can i just

rsyslog.conf
I was looking at the manpage for rsyslog.conf, primarily because I need to
filter my manager's new fedora 22 logs coming to our loghost, because of
the bug that I forwarded (if it gets through).
At any rate, I am surprised: under selectors, I see that " The keywords
error, warn and panic are deprecated and should not be used anymore."
Huh?
If I only want warn or more severe,

IO lockups and ext3 readonly filecorruption on RHEL4 (pre and post U4)
Has anyone been seeing IO lockup problems on EL4?
I've tried multiple IO scheduler options (elevator=) in the boot... I'm seeing
the same behavior regardless. Independent of hardware. Whitebox ATA, HA
enclosure with dedicated SCSI, megaraid RAID hardware, Dell 2850s... same
behavior:
A semi-busy system will suddenly go into some kind of IO la-la land where

Problem with "ldapsam:trusted = yes"
Hi,
I updated from 3.0.11 to 3.0.12 and tried the new ldapsam:trusted
parameter. Alas smbd dies silently a second after startup.
With debug level 2 I can't see any reason in the logfile. My smb.conf is
(relevant part I hope):
