Automatic printers don't quite work...
I have a new Centos 5.1 system whicn reports samba version samba 3.0.25b-1.el5_1.4 - and have just added a physical printer. Linux doesn't know the printer (Samsung CLP510) so it is installed as "raw" - no driver. When I use a windows box to browse the network - the printer is visible on the C5 server (without me explicitly creating a share)- and I can "connect" it -

Printer settings not saved
Hi, I have problems to save printer settings like changing the size from letter to A4. This happens for user settings and default printer settings. The settings are always resetted to default values like "letter". The system uses samba 3.4.11, I also did some tests with samba 3.5.8, but nothing changed. After downgrading to 3.3.2 everything worked as expected. I didn't change any

Samba upgrade HowTo requested
Dear Samba friends, Last weekend I decided to upgrade the samba server. We were running Samba 3.3 something and FreeBSD portupgrade was complaining that this version should be removed and assumingly replaced by the newest version. I removed the package via portupgrade and installed the 3.5.6 version. The upgrade went quite smoothly in general, but I encountered some difficulties with the printer

[3.0.28a] Telling XP to save password?
Hello We're successfully running Samba 3.0.28a on a FreeBSD server and sharing files with XP clients. There's only one problem: By default, XP doesn't let the user save the password, so they have to type it every time they reboot. Is there a way to tell XP to remember the password between reboots/sessions? Thank you.

Acl not working
Hi I have a share running on a domain member. My domain root user is linked to the domain Administrator (user map). When I go on windows to the share as Administrator I can access it. Then I change the acl settings. I give domain users access to the share. For some reason the changes are not visible on the unix system getfacl returns: root at dna:/data# getfacl /data/share/ getfacl: Removing

IKEv2/IPSEC "Road Warrior" VPN Tunneling?
Is there a "cookbook" for setting this up? There are examples for setting up a tunnel between two fixed-address networks (e.g. a remote LAN that needs to be "integrated" with a central LAN over IPSec but I can't find anything addressing the other situation -- remote user(s) where the connecting IPs are not known in advance, such as a person with a laptop or smartphone in a

windows acl not saving, no error, nothing in log file
Regarding the insertion of "user_xattr,acl,barrier=1" in to /etc/fstab file. The Sambawiki page 'https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/OS_Requirements' has instructions there for ext4 to include this. I seen it commented here, in the mailing list, many time that this is now default for ext4. Maybe the wiki page should be changed? (Just a suggestion, you guys always give great

Acls
Hi I have some problems with setting permissions on my share. I think it has to do that I didn?t configure this If you use the winbind 'ad' backend on Unix domain members and you add a gidNumber attribute to the Domain Admins group in AD, you will break the mapping in idmap.ldb. Domain Admins is mapped as ID_TYPE_BOTH in idmap.ldb, this is to allow the group to own files in Sysvol on a
