idmap uid allocation problem
Hi, we've had a machine happily authenticating to an ADS domain for about a year now, and it's recently stopped working (possibly due to changes in the domain or a samba upgrade, unfortunately I'm not sure). We're using an ldap idmap backend running on the local machine. Now though, new domain users can't log in. Running "wbinfo -i newuser" returns an error.

InterDomain Trust Issue; Active directory domain does not return users and groups
I have created a two way Interdomain Trust between a Samba 3.21 Domain and a Windows 2003 Server Domain. I am able to log into the Active Directory domain with my Samba users and I am able to access shares set up in the AD Domain. However, when I attempt to log into the samba domain with a user from the Windows 2003 domain, I get an error saying the username/password is not correct.  From the

stop winbind writes to disk
I'm trying to eliminate disk read/writes (as much as possible). Winbind is one of the last problems for me. I was hoping that the -n switch would disable caching and thus eliminate the writes to /var/cache/samba/winbindd_cache.tdb. But I haven't had much luck. To debug, I use the command string winbindd -i -d10 -n -s /etc/samba/smb.conf and I get the following output: [ 6796]: list

Pre-3.023d-Bug in ACL-handling reappears in 3.026a
# wbinfo -Y S-1-5-11 Could not convert sid S-1-5-11 to gid # wbinfo -Y S-1-5-13 Could not convert sid S-1-5-13 to gid (S-1-5-11 are the Authenticated Users, S-1-5-13 are the Terminal Server Users.) This bug was finally solved in release 3.023d. Now it is back again. How can I get this working? I'm using idmap/tdb - would another idmap-module solve this issue? The winbind log looks like

idmap_ad and multiple domians
Has anyone else gotten samba functioning with idmap_ad and multiple domains? In our environment we have a domain with two child domains. There is one child domain for students, and another for faculty staff. Our servers are joined to the student domain, but need to be able to enumerate users in the staff domain. When attempting to lookup a user (wbinfo -i 'NAU\car3') that only exists

Problems adding a NTSp6a machine to a SAMBA PDC Domain + LDAP: sambaPrimaryGroupSID
Hello everybody I have configure a Samba PDC machine, using LDAP as password backend. The scripts smbldap-tools are used to create the accounts in the LDAP. I can add Windows XP machines to the domain without problems. But today, I tried to add a Windows NT Server SP6a machine to the domain, and there is the next error: smbldap_get_single_attribute: [sambaLogonHours] = [<does not

Samba 3.0.24 handling LDAP responses incorrectly
Hey list, Recently I've gotten my Samba PDC to successfully use an OpenLDAP backend, while using the smbk5pwd and ppolicy overlays for OpenLDAP. However, Samba appears to incorrectly handle responses from LDAP's ppolicy overlay, even though it very clearly receives them. If I enter in a password (be it through Ctrl+Alt+Delete or when a password expires and the user is prompted at logon)

Adding machine account to LDAP with pdbedit fails
Hello everyone, I am having a problem adding a machine account with pdbedit. My setup is the latest samba (3.0.21b) compiled from source on Solaris 10, SUN's latest JES' Directory Server. I am in a beginning stage of setting up this environment, so I may not have done something right. I was following the Samba PDC LDAP howto by Ignacio Coupeau

idmap LDAP branch never populates with Samba 3.4.1 - how do I debug ?
I've followed the instructions at http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Ldapsam_Editposix which concerns how to setup idmap correctly with Samba > 3.0.25. I have a trusted domain which has been successfully established. However, no SID entries populate beneath ou=idmap and any logon to the trusted domain will result in: netr_LogonSamLogon: user SANDBOX\Administrator has user sid

Samba 3.4.2 Trusted Domain Logon gives: "Conflicting domain portions are not supported for NETLOGON calls"
Hi, I'm specifically have a problem with idmap entries not being created in my LDAP backend for trusted domain logons - Local accounts appear to be fine. I have installed the Sernet enterprise packages from: http://ftp.sernet.de/pub/samba/experimental/rhel/5/i386/ I'm preparing the server as follows: 1. smbpasswd -w '<password>' 2. net rpc trustdom establish SANDBOX

winbind initialization: GetDC got invalid response type 21
Hi all, I'm running Samba 3.0.28 on CentOS 5.1 as a PDC. I'm having problems with winbind taking a long to initialize or reconnect to the domain. For example, starting winbind and then checking the trust secret takes ~30 seconds: # time /usr/local/samba/bin/wbinfo -t checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded real 0m34.055s user 0m0.008s sys 0m0.019s In the logs

Samba segment faulting - unknown cause
Hello, Recently our Samba server has started segment faulting. It happens occasionally, but is often enough to cause disruption. People notice thier network drives freeze, I am unsure of the cause of the segment fault, and have no experience debugging backtraces. Can anoyone lend a hand? We are running Samba as a primary domain controller with an Openldap backend on another server, both on

How do I get Samba to probe for my ldap module ?
I'm compiling Samba 3.4.1 with ./configure --with-pam --with-ldap --with-shared-modules=idmap_ldap This produces an ldap.so module which I have copied into /lib (and run ldconfig -v). However, following this log.winbind-idmap is not created (only log.smbd and log.winbindd) and Samba does not appear to probe for the ldap module (I have compared my case to another which is creating this log

mixed case usernames
I haven't found anything about this in the FAQ's... Despite having a translation from an all uppercase (or all lowercase) to the mixed case Unix username in the username map, the samba server (1.9.18p1) does not allow browsing from a Win95 client. If I change the username to all lowercase on the Unix server, then browsing works fine. Have I missed something? -- Phil Etheridge

username map not working
I still have not resolved this problem. Last time I reported it, I neglected to note the OS & version. Server is running Digital Unix 4.0B, samba 1.9.18p1 Problem is that a user's home directory only appears on a Win95 client under "Network Neighbourhood" when they have an all lowercase username on the server. Otherwise, user is prompted for a passwd and a bad password error

I have a weird problem with PDC on samba 3.5.3 and I think I need developers' help :)
I'm sorry for the very long debug pasted below but I'm afraid lower debug levels would not give enough useful information about the problem. I've been investigating it for over two weeks with no result. Maybe developers can tell me where to search for the cause - browsing source code is very hard... I have a Samba PDC with LDAP backend. Configuration works fine on 3.0.x version but

further to my last email
.. the round function seems to get round it (excuse the pun): > round(gamma(21)/(gamma(6)*gamma(16))) == round(choose(20,5)) [1] TRUE So I presume the problem is related to gamma being a real function. However, I'm still not sure why there's a break from TRUE to FALSE for certain values. Any comments would be appreciated! _____________________________________ Paul S.P. Cowpertwait
