Fw: Setting Global printer defaults on standalone server running version samba 3.0.25
Hi Vickie (and others). I think I spoke a bit soon... at least on the global default settings... There are still a few strange things going on... My situation is slightly different from yours (I think). My users don't necessarily have logins on the linux server. I probably should use "security = share" - but with this setting - I couldn't get the driver upload to work. When

printer admin option replacement on stand alone (not domain) print server running version 3.0.25
I'm trying to upload print drivers to a stand-alone samba server running version 3.0.25. The server is part of a workgroup (not domain). My log files show messages that it cannot update the driver. Before I had the printer admin option set in my smb.conf file to allow a non-root user to do the printer admin and everything worked fine. I have read the Samba How To Notes section on important

Printing Errors in log since installing 3.0.9
Since installing Samba 3.0.9, I am getting the following errors in my samba log file related to printing. I haven't made any changes to the smb.conf file from 3.0.7 where printing worked fine. This is a sample of the errors from the samba log file. [2004/12/06 15:45:55, 0] printing/printing_db.c:get_print_db_byname(109) get_print_db: Failed to open printer backend database

3.0.25 *breaks* stand alone server, 3.0.24 works fine
Gerry, It looks like 3.0.25 breaks "stand alone/no winbind/no domain" servers. This is remeniscent of the 3.0.23b SID/GID problem. The only thing that jumps out at me is that you can't access your home share and other shares just quit working. Looking at the log files, I see this: [2007/05/14 15:24:55, 10] smbd/open.c:share_conflict(389) share_conflict:

print spooling message never goes away
I have a Samba server that reports some print jobs "spooling" to the workstations on the network when clients browse it. There are no jobs spooling or printing and it never goes away unless I restart the Samba process. It does come back though and do the same thing. This happens on a few of the 50 queues it's serving. Any ideas? Thanks Greg Samba 3.0.4 Fedora Core 1

successor of 'printer admin'
Hello list last week we upgraded a 2.2 samba installation to the latest 3.024 release (with CUPS as printing backend). till now we granted some users the right to cancel printer queues from others with 'printer admin = printadmins' in smb.conf. I read through the changes-list and realized that 'printer admin' is now deprecated. I read through the Samba-book, the Howto-sections

access denied on printer driver upload
Hi, I'm trying to upload printer drivers to my jessie samba 4.1.17 print server, but I'm getting: "Failed to add driver. Access denied", and I don't understand why. The domain join is OK (verified with net ads testjoin) and on the DC I have given the SePrintOperatorPrivilege to the Domain Admins group, of which I am a member: root at DC2:~# net rpc rights list

Automating the Samba Install
Hey all, I'm coloring outside the lines a little bit here but I would like to automate the install of a samba pdc. Within that script to install I would like to assign rights to a group. Here is an example of a few steps: # Create Unix group: groupadd domadmins # Map unix group to samba groups: net groupmap add ntgroup="Domain Admins" unixgroup=domadmins rid=512 type=d # Assign

hi everybody, when using enable privileges = yes in smb.conf where does the permission get saved? I assume in the passdb backend or is there a tdb server specific file in /var/lib/samba? cause when i give a group the permission: net rpc -S pa-server1 rights grant 'NET\domadmin' SePrintOperatorPrivilege Enter root's password: Successfully granted rights. but when listing the

Printing; privileges separation
Hi list, I'm using samba 3.0.26a with cups as printing backend, which are both working fine. However, I would like to grant all users access to all print jobs, but without granting them the right to add or modify printers and printer settings. When I grant users the SePrintOperatorPrivilege privilege, they can indeed cancel other people's jobs, but then they can also rename printers

If I grant SePrintOperatorPrivilege to a user on the PDC and BDC's, then "rpc rights list <user>" shows the proper entry: DOMAIN\username SePrintOperatorPrivilege If I do this on a member server, I

mutual information for two time series
Hi I hope this is going to the right place. I am trying to write a program which uses KernSmooth library to estimate mutual information between two time series at various different lags. At the moment it’s producing negative values, which is supposed to be impossible (something is fishy). I am summing across one row of the matrix to get p(value is in bin x) and summing across the columns to get
