smbclient printout
Hello, Sorry, I guess my first post wasn't allowed - perhaps because I had HTML embedded in it? Question: Is there a way that I can have the output of smbclient be redirected to a file and have it updated every time someone opens / closes a file in the share? The only idea that I have thus far is to write a script that would output this data to a log file, and have the script

Access control question.
Hello, I have a general administrative question concerning Samba shares. I have a large amount of data that about 25 users have limited access to. I only want these users to have access to a sub-set of this data, but I also only want the users to see that which they have access to. So, for example, suppose that the share looks like thus: /smbshare /smbshare/dir1 /smbshare/dir2

Unanswered question
How long does one have to typically wait for an answer to a post? Tomorrow my message will have been up a week, and I've gotten no replies. It was about whether a file, while it was being written to, could subsequently be opened by another client for reading. I used a DVR with chasing play as an example. Didn't seem like that difficult of a question, but maybe it isn't geeky

Calling fft from C
Hi I have made a R function 'convolve2' for convolution of two real valued vectors based on Rs 'convolve' with option type="open" - see below. (exp.length and irf.length are variables set in another part of the program) I wish to implement the function convolve2 in C and use it in a function used from R with .Call - e.g. I need to call fft in C. All I can find in the

freeRADIUS + krb5 + samba + AD
Hi, We are using freeRADIUS 1.1.6. + samba 3.0.1 + krb5-1.3.2 talk to active-directory(win2k3). Followed by: http://wiki.freeradius.org/FreeRADIUS_Active_Directory_Integration_HOWTO Now it can work. But there are multiple domains in active-directory. Can samba or krb5 support mutiple domains? How to configure krb5.conf and smb.conf can let it support multiple domains?

vanilla rsync 3.0.9 hangs after transferring ~2000 files
Hello rsync folks I'm trying to use rsync for backing up our servers. This mostly works extremely well, with no problems. However, 1 server is giving me a lot of trouble. It has a directory with (currently) 734088 files in it, and every time I try to backup this dir, rsync hangs after transferring roughly 2000 files. Sometimes it's around 1800, sometimes it's over 2100 (I think), but

OTP authentication
If I were going to do this, I would probably try moving to a Windows 200x AD domain controller, and implementing RSA SecurID on that machine. I have not worked with other OTP solutions. As far as I understand, if Samba is configured as a domain controller, it expects to be able to handle the authentication itself. OTP is , in my opinion, most valuable when you are exposing resources to the

Odd, slow Windows XP client download behavior
I recently set up a Samba server (3.0.24-6etch9) on my debian etch system. While accessing its shares through 1GBit Ethernet with a Windows XP SP2 client there's some real odd behavior: In one direction (uploading files from WinXP -> debian) the speed is just great, no matter what, around 35MiB/s. In the other direction (downloading a file WinXP <- debian) it idles at around 120KiB/s

pGINA and samba - authentication against LDAP userPassword field?
Hi, Back to a while ago, someone mentioned about taking pGINA code to samba, so samba can work against LDAP authentication, but instead of using the sambaNTPassword and sambaLMPassword, this way samba can use the userPassword field directly. This sounds very promissing because we can then just use one set of passwords. It may be not usable in a domain enviroment where machine accounts and other

PGina & Samba
Does anyone have any experience using PGina with Samba for a simple "single sign on" approach using Windows clients? If so, I would love to know how it is working for you. I tried posting here a bit ago for a way to do this ("single sign on") with samba only, but I didn't get any responses and therefore looked into other opportunities. Thanks. Paul

A Samba AD domain can totally replace your 389-ds and pgina setup. As for pgina, I thought it was dead, which the original is (okay, it hasn't had any updates for

How to configuring 389ds to the backed user authentication on Samba-ad
Hi, I hope this is the correct forum to ask this question. I am looking for some guidance on whether Samba-ad can be (or should be) configured using ldap (389-ds) as the back end for user authentication in a production environment. I have come across a few forums and went through you?re documentation pages but the information isn?t clear so thought to ask the question directly to the
