OT: Vista & NTConfig.POL
This isn't technically a samba question, but I figure there will be
other samba users out there in the same boat.
I have just setup the first Vista box on our samba domain and I am
having some trouble with policies (they don't get applied).
I have had a look around and there is alot of talk about the adm->admx
change, etc but I haven't seen anyone say that anything needs to

Moving premises, new server at new building
Hi all,
Our company is looking at moving premises some time next year, the plan
at the moment is to have a new server room with all new servers set up
at the new building prior to moving the workstations over. I'm wondering
if anyone has done anything like this and what the best way to proceed is.
We are using an LDAP backend. I am not completely averse to unix UIDs
changing (although I

No, this does not happen on Windows 2000. Note that I'm still running
Windows 2000 because it runs very nicely under virtualization with only
256 MB allocated to the VM. ;)

window 2000 policy changes with a samba pdc
Hello,
With the release of samba 3.0 I was vey excited with the new features
and decided to experiment with it.
I set my server up as a pdc which I am still working out some of the
bugs but all and all I have it going and have a windows 2000 pro client
join the domain and login and out very easy.
The one problem is that before I roll this out to my other comptuers I
need to change the policy on

interdomain trust relationships
Hello,
I am also triing to set up a interdomain relationship with a NT domain

Well, no. Every user can add a BCC in his client. Maybe you use a central
client configuration setup. I don't know your situation.

Well, as I said, "in postfix".

winbindd + smbd errors trying to run in proxy only mode
Hi,
I am trying to set up squid to authenticate using the ntlm module. In
order to do this I am trying to get winbindd to run in proxy only mode.
I am running Samba 2.0.23c. I have no references to idmap or winbind in
my smb.conf. I was of the impression this should cause winbindd to start
in proxy only mode.
Starting winbindd results in:

Samba 3.0.28 buffer overflow
Folks,
Came across a reproduceable fault with HP's latest version of Samba which
is based on 3.0.28 code.....wouldn't surprise me if this has been fixed in
later versions.
Did a new install last week on OpenVMS 8.4 for a customer to run his CMS
on. We can write several thousand files no problem, but when it comes to
manipulating the modified date on each of the files samba will choke on

Question About Samba version 3.0.28-1.e15_2.1
I can't open a file (on our samba server) using Actis,
When I troubleshoot the problem using Wireshark, see SMB protocol using
FIND_FIRST2 and filename using obscure Windows metacharacters, e.g.
USAARG03V>>A.SWK
, which gives STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE (Samba is interpreting the name
literally)
But if the files are copied to a local drive Actis can find them.

root postexec issue on both Samba 3.4.5 and 3.0.28
Hi, there
I'm using Samba 3.4.5 and 3.0.28 on RHEL 5.2, and I noticed that on both
samba servers
'root postexec' script in [netlogon] is executed automatically when
logged in for around 11 minutes.
This makes me crazy to track when a use is logged out.
The man page smb.conf.5 says:

upgrade 3.0.28 to 3.5.3 (SerNet package)
Hi all,
I have been upgrading the samba package on a SLES10 (i686) machine with
the new SerNet 3.5.3 package.
The server is using the ldap backend for users and passwords.
It has been working fine until I tried to use a DOS lan manager client.
A normal user was not able to "net use * \\server\share" and
authenticate using the userid and password.

Duplicate filename with Samba 3.0.28

I'm having an odd problem that I can't find a resolution to.
I have a Freebsd 6.2 server with recently upgrade samba software (from

Samba 3.0.28 with VFS-Module "GPFS"
Hi Rob,
on your Info for Version 3.0.25 you pointed out the VFS-Module GPFS for
using features of the underlaying GPFS-Filesystem.
Also the man-pages-3/vfs_gpfs.8.html points to that module, but I can't
find it anywhere.
We are using a GPFS 3.2 3-Node Samba Cluster (3.0.24/28) on Dell HW.
We would be very glad if it is posible to get

Samba 3.0.28/3.0.32
I've looked at the CentOS docs-list as well as the Wiki as I was interested
in Samba.
On one CentOS box I've got 3.0.32 (the latest bug-fixed version from Samba.org)
and on another I've got 3.0.28 (the latest from upstream). The docs look almost
the same and the docs refer to security = share. However 3.0.32 comes with a
blank smb.conf making it harder to get a secure server up and

Mixed success with Samba 3.0.28 and ADS
Hi.
I'm running FreeBSD with Samba 3.0.28 and have had success previously
with FreeBSD and an earlier version of Samba, and am in the process of
setting up a member server to act as a file server using the above
combination.
I have created a kerberos ticket, and successfully joined the domain:
ksm-smb# net ads join -UAdministrator%password
