samba3, cups, and pointprint drivers install
Hello,
I've got a redhat9 system with cups and samba3 installed. I want to use
this machine for both local and network printing. On the local side apps
can print just fine, the cups configuration is working great.
Network-side is not the case. I've got a mixture of 2k and 9x clients, so
i'm going to need drivers for both configurations. In smb.conf i've got:
printcap name = cups

3.0.24 to 3.0.28 upgrade, lost printers (name length?)
Hi,
I recently upgraded from 3.0.24 to 3.0.28 on my Slackware 11.0 PDC. I
have just noticed several printers have disappeared (they still exist
and work in cups but they do not show up in the share listing on the
server and users who have them set up cannot print).
Most of the printers are still present, the ones the disappeared have
names that are 17 or more characters, the remaining

samba on centos with printer drivers
Hello,
I'm trying to set up a CentOS 4.4 print server. I've attached a Usb Hp
Deskjet 5150 printer to the box, and printed a test page. This worked fine,
using cups. I then went to the samba howto, classical printer section, and
followed the section for uploading pointprint drivers to the box. My first
problem came when i told the error dialog no, then didn't see a new driver

Samba shares are case-sensitive in Windows = bad
Hi,
I am a Samba newbie using 3.0.27 and noticed that Samba allows me to
create directories in Samba shares on Windows that have the same name,
but different case. For example, "TEST", "tEsT", "test", and "TESt" are
all permitted directory names in the same path (root directory of the
Samba share). This seems like a bad thing since Windows itself does

CentOS /boot kernel files removed after rpm upgrades
Hello,
I ran a yum update on a centos 5 machine. I then removed some old kernel
files, 2.6.x.14 and 2.6.x.10 older kernels. The issue is i got the error
"Grub can not create template". I checked /boot and it is now empty. If i
reboot this box it certainly will have an issue. I'm running the latest
kernel 2.6.x.15 i believe it is. Can anyone tell me how to fix this?
Thanks.

Wondering if there is an option like banner
Hi everyone,
I have been googling quite a bit and going through the samba documentation
looking for something like a banner for a share and nothing came up.
I need to setup a public share on a server that is currently running with
server security, so I addedd the nobody account to the smbpasswd with null
password, but I want to set a banner on the share that let people know
this. Is this

2.2.8a and printers
I recent upgraded to 2.2.8, which went fine. When I checked smbclient -L
firewall, I saw I Lost my printer share.
I am using CUPS v1.1.3 for printing. When I went back to 2.2.7a it
reappeared. 2 questions:
1> Why did it do this? I ./configured it --enable-cups- --with-pam_(smb)
2> Is there and advantage of upgrading such a small step? Or are there a big
enough issues to warrant this

Print only server
I currently have a 95% Novell Network network that continues to have
constant printing issues. Enough Novell bashing, here lies the problem.
I am trying to migrate all of our printers over to a samba print server,
but in several of my tests I have come up with problems. I will attach
my smb.conf at the end for those of you that wish to see it.
I am using lprng as the printing backend because all

printer drivers - Add Printer Wizard disabled
I'm following along in the guide, trying to make printer drivers
available from Samba. But when I right-click on a printer in Windows
XP and select the "properties" tab, it's disabled:
http://tinypic.com/usermedia.php?uo=BMeeHijW2w%2FyTvDsjpQbEQ%3D%3D
So how do I enable this so the client can upload the drivers? So far I
have tried:

File & Printer Sharing With Windows98
I have been looking for clear guidance on setting up Samba on
home network to share files and printers for nearly a year and just
don't understand how to apply the information.
Here is what I have:
A Linksys router is hardwired to 3 computers and a DSL modem.
One computer is running Debian Etch v2 with Samba installed.
The other two computers are running Windows 98SE. The files

streaming to dialup users gives low quality audio
Hi,
Currently streaming ogg isn't practical in this situation. That was one

Thanks.
Dave.

Hello,
I have a CentOS 4.4 box acting as a print server with a cups backend and
samba 3.2.4. I recently ran yum which updated both cups and cups-libs, but i
do not think this is my problem. I've added windows drivers to the samba
sharea and have in the past printed a test page to the printer. Now when i
atempt to do this with a word document from a windows box, i am getting the

creating a master share
I am trying to create a master share that contains all the other
shares. I created a group that needs read+write permission to all the
other shares. However, rather than adding this group in each share
configuration, I was wondering if there is a way to overwrite the
permission.
I tried this but gave read-only access. Also in the linux level, I
don't have this master group as the owner. Any
