Win XP/7 with roaming profiles
Before last week, we have been running Samba 3.0.28 on Ubuntu Hardy as a PDC for Windows XP Pro machines using roaming profiles. This has worked for years with no issues. We migrated to a server running Ubuntu Lucid and Samba 3.4.7 so that we could start adding Windows 7 Pro machines to the domain. We first moved servers/samba versions and worked out a few kinks with the XP machines.

Roaming profiles and case sensitivity
Hi, Yesterday I found big problems concerning my roaming profiles. They seem to work on some computers where they are always used, on some other the did not load properly (i.e. a default profile was loaded instead). After some debugging with userenv.log I found the very strange problem: case sensitivity for ntuser.dat!: [...] IsCentralProfileReachable: Testing <F:\testuser\ntuser.dat>

Unable to re-connect to roaming profile in samba4
I've just configured Samba4 on Ubuntu (4.0.0+dfsg1-1), and can't seem to get roaming profiles working (I followed the guide at https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO ) 1. Logons work just fine. 2. DNS is configured and working, running through SAMBA_INTERNAL 3. Clients can talk to the server and see/access shares at \\server.corp.domain.com 4. Clients are all Windows 8 and NTP

unwanted roaming profiles
Hello, I have a minor problem wherein Samba is creating roaming profiles for users who logon to our lab's domain. I don't want roaming profiles. Since I'm not using the "logon path" command in my smb.conf, and I don't have a [profile] share in my smb.conf either, I cant' figure out why Samba keeps wanting to create roaming profiles. Anyone have any ideas about

I have a network comprised of a linux server (mandrake) running samba 3.0.4 as a PDC and clients all being windows xp. I am in the process of doing a practice run of roaming profiles and am currently stuck. What is the most common way to prevent two of the workstations from logging into the pdc and thus corrupting the roaming profile? Ive googled this till im blue in the face and am getting

Windows 2000 (some sp2 / sp3) + Roaming Profiles + Samba PDC 2.2.3a (Redhat 7.3)
Hi, This is my first post to the list, so iam hoping luck is with me :) Ive run samba as a simple smb fileserver for over a year, but never needed to do any more than provide shares to users (who always use the same machines). However Iam not in need of running samba as a PDC for some windows 2000 machines, and need to use roaming profiles. This is where the problem sets in. Ive set up a nice

Need help getting roaming profiles to work
Hi! First, let me apologize for the length of this message. I wanted to include as much relevant info as I could and it got a bit lengthy. For reasons that I won't bother to detail here, I ended up volunteering to upgrade the server at my kids school. It's a small private school with an all-volunteer tech support staff (me!). We currently have about 40 computers serving about 150 people.

Roaming Profiles Annoyances
Hello, I've finally managed to get roaming profiles working (kindof). However some issues (after lots of googling) remain unresolved. Here's a summary of what I've done to date: 1) Setup samba shares according to gentoo-wiki.org <http://gentoo-wiki.org>(there were some problems with permissions etc after that but they're ok now) 2) Edited NTUSER of a foobar user account

incompatibility between roaming profiles and winxp clients that didn't create them
[samba v3.0.24, gentoo w/ kernel 2.6.15] I'm hoping someone has some insight into the following problem that I've recently encountered: Basically, winxp seems to be creating roaming profiles that are incompatible with another winxp client. I've got two sets of winxp clients, which I'll call 'new' and 'old'. Profiles created (and perfectly usable) by the old

Roaming profiles - exclude Application Data from roaming profile
Hello All, I have a problem with my roaming profiles where they are becoming too large due to the Thunderbird mail accounts (stored by default) in Application Data. What I would like to do is exclude this directory from being part of the roaming profile. How can I do this? Also, how hard is it to have some users not use a roaming profile but others continuing to use a roaming profile? We
