Samba Upgrade on Centos 3
After today's samba update, Centos 3 boxes can not use samba to
communicate with each other, although Windows and the Centos 3 boxes
see each other correctly as do RHEL5 and the Centos3 boxes. The du
command works well, but ls, cp, cat ,etc produces the error:
PANIC: push_ascii - dest_len == -1
in the server log and
smb_trans2_request: result=-5, setting invalid
in the client.

Cntl-Alt-Delete reboots it without power cycling. The usual diagnostics (memtest and fsck) return no

VMware Server 2.0.1 and Centos 5.4
Upgrade to RHEL 5.4's glibc has rendered vmware-hostd inoperable in
some systems. I don't know if Centos 5.4 has the same conflict between
glibc and VMware Server as RHEL (no reason it shouldn't).
If you run VMware Server 2.0.1 make a copy of /lib64/libc-2.5.so (or /lib/libc-
2.5.so) before upgrading to 5.4. If you encounter this problem follow dirkgf 's
instructions in

I noticed that there are no openoffice.org-xxx-2.0.4-5.4.17.2 rpms in Centos

elapsed and it used up about 10 GB of space with an error

gecko-libs dependency resurfaces
In doing an update of centos 5.2 this morning, I observed that the old
gecko-libs dependency issue caused yum update to fail because it was
required by nspluginwrapper (x64_86), devhelp, yelm and firefox. Also, a
firefox (x64_86) showed the red hat splash screen rather than centos.
Manual installation of affected rpms using --nodeps (I don't advise this) did

speed and connection problems after samba upgrade - RH 5 -> RH 5.1, samba 3.0.23c -> 3.0.25b
Hi,
recently we upgraded a central RHEL 5 fileserver to the latest RH EL 5.1
rpms, including samba. (samba-3.0.23c-2.el5.2 update to
samba-3.0.25b-1.el5_1.4)
Now some users have the problem, that opening a word or excel file saved
on a samba share takes up to 30 seconds. Today I could verify this on
the users desktop XP PC.
This problem occures only from time to time, so it may be also a

BSOD when writing from W2003 clients after SP2 has been installed
Hi,
We are running a RHEL4 x86_64 server, samba-3.0.25b-1.el4_6.4. The server is
running with essentially the same configuration since a year without
problems. Due to a hardware failure on the back-end SAN the samba-server was
moved to a different machine (same OS, same samba version, same config). At
about the same time we deployed SP2 on various W2300 machines (there are in
total about 50 W2003

openldap-2.2.13-8.el4_6.4
smbldap-tools-0.9.4-1.el4.rf
I already have a working and functional ldap installation. The rub is
that the existing ldap accounts do not have any samba specific
attributes. Samba by Example assumes that I'm initially creating an ldap
database, where the

Winbind and groups
Hello Friendly Samba People,
I have a working samba install that allows my AD users access to files on my linux box. The linux box is configured via Winbind as a domain member and uses Winbind as the local NSS. I can successfully resolve both users and groups from the AD. Users are currently able to access the samba shares without trouble.
I am running into trouble when trying to use groups

is of any significance.
The specific error that I get are as follows:

Samba and the InterWeb
Hi,
We have an office-based Windows-locked publishing system whose only
delivery mechanism is to write to a local filesystem, and a requirement
for its output to be available to a collocated production environment
comprising Solaris and Linux boxes. The 'obvious' solution was to run a
Samba server on one of the collocated Linux boxes and mount the share it
provides on the relevant
