Samba-3.0.23 problem
We had to power down all servers today for electrical maintenance in the
building and for some reason I began having access problems related to
the valid users lists when power was restored.
The dialog from the 'Samba-3.0.23 broke my network' thread seemed as if
it might be related even though I had not performed any software upgrade
so I tried adding the group mappings as discussed in

Fedora SRPM and cups-devel
Why doesn't samba.org's source RPM for Fedora list cups-devel as a
BuildRequires? Red Hat's/Fedora's version of the source RPM does
require it. Not requiring it and leaving --enable-cups as auto means
that the resulting RPM's features depend on which machine it's built on;
that seems incorrect to me. I've noticed that some RPMs control which
features are built

File Locked
Hi,
I've got a Word document on a Samba share that I can't rename, overwrite or open. Attempting to rename it gives: Cannot rename Filename: There has been a sharing violation.
Attempting to open it gives: Filename.doc is locked for editing by 'another user'.
This is on a NAS box so I can't say which Samba version it is.
There are no temporary files in the share to show who

How quickly are RHEL errata released as CentOS errata ?
Hi,
I am deciding on what 'RHEL clone' to use and prefer to use one that has a
quick release after RedHat releases an update.
I checked the repositories, but have not encountered any of the latest
errata. Am I looking at the wrong place ?
Thanks,
Taco

samba-3.6.0 .spec anad patches for SRPM building for RHEL 5 and 6 at https://github.com/nkadel/samba-3.6.0-srpm
For folks who want samba-3.6.0 for RHEL 5 or 6, and would prefer to
have RHEL compatible layouts rather than the somewhat different
layouts of the packages at
http://ftp.samba.org/pub/samba/Binary_Packages/, I've published some
.spec files and patches at
https://github.com/nkadel/samba-3.6.0-srpm
I'm happy to walk through how to build these with "mock" to get very
clean

Asterisk SRPM and RPMs
Hello,
For those on Red Hat boxes I've have made an SRPM of Asterisk from
today's CVS at http://www.laimbock.com/dl/asterisk It is based on the
specfile included in Asterisk from cvs. The RPMs have been built on a
RH9 box.
Actually, there are more than one:
Asterisk - plain
Asterisk - with samples
Asterisk - with debugging on

Started Zaptel SRPM & RPMs
Hello,
For those on Red Hat boxes I've have started an SRPM of Zaptel from
today's CVS at http://www.laimbock.com/dl/asterisk The SRPM has one
problem in that I can't get the darn thing to update /etc/modules.conf
so the proper modules get loaded. When you install the RPM (built on
RH9) it will tell you what to do on the console. Anyone who has a clue
to fix this is kindly invited to

Installing xen from xen srpm compiled rpms
When I use yum to install xen 3.2.0 and xen-libs it also pulls in then centos kernel-xen?
I thought the srpm contained all that was needed besides obvious deps like bridge utils etc?
To get this running, I change the grub stanza kernel-xen creates to have the kernel point
to xen.gz-3.2 and one of the module lines to point to my custom initrd for pciback loading.
That leaves the other module line

I am running RHEL 4.4 and CentOS 4.4, I dont run Apache only Lighttpd.
How do I compile php from php.srpm without apache support?
Well I have been compiling php from srpm like this forever

But today it somehow bugged me, I dont use apache on this server. But
its asking me to install httpd and httpd-devel to compile.
Isnt there a syntax to skip the apache

createrepo command for 6.4 respin
Hi List,
I have been searching for the correct createrepo command to make a 6.4 respin.
We have been doing this with previous versions using
createrepo -u "media://$discinfo" -g ${DIR}/my_kickstart${VER}/comps.xml .
Which had worked fine until now.
Thanks,

Newbie Questions
Recent convert from WhiteBox, a few questions
What is the difference between CentOS 4.2 and "4"? Is this like the Whitebox
"respin"? Are updates/packages for 4.2 applicable across all the "4" series
of releases?
