Authentication problems after upgrading to 3.0.23c
Hi there,
Since upgrading our debian sarge boxes to 3.0.23c, we have found that we
are unable to connect to shares using the official hostname of the
servers (short or fully qualified) but can still use its netbios aliases
(again, short or fully qualified). As nothing else has changed in our
configuration, I think that the change of behaviour is down to the newer
release and can find nothing in

printerdrivers.

Strange file permissions
Hi
I have a samba server with tdbsam passwords, and a share, PROJECTS,
which is accessed by various XP home clients, the usenames and passwords
being manually synced to the samba ones (less than 10 users, and only 4
workstations). There is one win2K machine, which is a domain member.
Subdirectories on PROJECTS have g+s set, so only users,
who are members of specific Linux groups, have access to

Username/Password not passed to Samba
Hi all,
Using Samba 3.0.0beta3 on FreeBSD 4.9 and a WinXP SP1 client. I was able to
join the domain with the WinXP machine, but I cannot log-on. The Windows
error message is about the domain server not found, no machine account, etc.
I set the log level to 3 and received the following output when I tried to
log-on:

OT: permission denied when opening PDF docs with Acrobat Reader X potected mode
Hi,
this might be off topic because it's not a samba problem, but might be
interesting for others too. We are running an older samba 3.0.24 working
as domain controller (no DFS features). When opening a .pdf file with
the Acrobat Reader X from a WinXP SP3 client (maschine is member of the
domain) the Acrobat Reader X shows a "permission denied". We see the

Samba 3.0.4 and DOS 6.2.2
Hi,
I have a problem with Samba 3.0.4 and DOS 6.2.2.
Our clientinstallation works with PXE. This setup connects the samba-server
with a DOS 6.2.2 batch-script, which attempts to copy a text-file from the
client to the installation-share.
I have interrupted the script and attempted to do the copy manually.
Error-message: File not found.

specific client machines can't write / execute others can and oplock causes panic
Hi all hope you can help,
I have a mixed XP / 2K client deployment, and the samba server is running as a PDC. On most machines I have no problems, but on 2 2K machines and 1 XP machine I'm getting the same behaviour every time I either try to write the file or execute a file, no matter whether I log on to the domain or which userid I log on as. I'm also running debian woody 2.4.19, and

Connection gets closed after just a few seconds "smbd/service.c:close_cnum(1150)"
I'm testing the AIX binaries for 3.0.24 and have run into a problem.
Depending on how I map the share (using: \\[IP, hostname or
FQDN]\[sharename]) then the connection to the server is closed after
just a few seconds of inactivity.
The server runs on AIX5.3 with the latest fixpack. The client is Win XP
SP2.
I'm currently using 3.0.22 on our production server and don't have this

Why do Interdomain trusts try to use kerberos
I have setup a test PDC with samba 3.4.7 on a fedora core 12 linux
machine. I have setup two way interdomain trusts with a Windows 2008
domain. The domain and forest functional levels are Windows 2003.
Since the samba machine is not emulating an Active Domain Controller,
the Windows 2008 machine should think it is talking to an NT4 server.
And since NT4-based domains don't use

Problems when trying to join samba PDC with W2K8 server
Hello all,
I am trying to add W2K8 server to our domain "ns.local". This domain is
working O.K. for all XP machines we have (~10), but when adding a W2K8
server, I get user/pass prompt and then after typing my* username and
password I get:

Why do Interdomain trusts try to use kerberos - updated
On my test Samba PDC, I updated the krb5.conf file to add realm info for the
Windows 2008. This seems to have resolved my "wbinfo" issue. "getent
passwd" is still not working (I did update nsswitch.conf) but I suspect this
is because of an idmap allocation issue. The syntax for idmap allocation
in smb.conf seems to change between 3.0, 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4.
