Your message Re: Samba and printer comments (July 5 1999)
Yes unfortunately I do not have much luck recieving help from the SAMBA mailing list. After much playing I found something weird that was seemingly causing incorrect comments. Most printers would recieve the comment - "no entries" which originally I assumed to be the default comment given by Win95 when it could not get a proper comment. However I later found that this is not the case.

Automatic install of printer drivers + comments
Greetings all, Recently we implemented the automatic install of printers (+ their associated drivers) for our Windows 95 clients. Originally we achieved it using Samba 2.0.4. Unfortunately we could not get the comment field (as configured at the client) to get automatically filled in. After upgrading to 2.0.4b we found that 'magically' the comment field was filled in with the same

Can't locate point and print (printer) driver files
We have recently implemented printing via SAMBA for our site. In most cases clients are able to double click on printers from a browse window and have the driver files automatically install. However in alot of other cases, the client computer 'decides' that it can't locate the files. In these instances we are advising users to manually type in \\SMBSERVER\PRINTER$\PRINTERNAME which

HP2500 Printer under SAMBA
Has anyone else managed to get the 'point and print' (automatic driver installation - PRINTER$) system to work with the Hewlett Packard 2500 Colour inkjet. I have taken a look at the HP web site and it seems that they have changed the format of the driver INF files (and hence does not work with the make_printerdef utility). I have almost managed to get it to work (by a little hacking).

Getting around 16 unix group limitation
Has anyone worked out a way around the 1+16 group limit imposed on Solaris in regards to samba. Our situation is that users only see the Solaris 2.6 server via Samba - ie. no user has telnet or general unix access to the server. Is there a way using Samba to allow users to belong to more than 16 secondary groups (ie. bypassing the underlying unix group limitation). I am aware that you can

Re: Looking for answers....
[Redirected to the general samba list] One of the things which Samba provides is a facility to run a "preexec" script before allowing a user to connect to a directory, and refuse to make the conenction if the script returns a non-zero result. This can prevent someone from logging on twice, limit them to specific hours, from conencting to the wrong directory and so on. In

Changing some values within a variable
Hi I'm new to R and would like some help with a couple of problems. I suspect the solutions are quite simple. I have a data.frame (data) with 40 variables and 5238 observations created from ~150 text files using read.table. I would like to change some of the entries within two different columns. Firstly, in the Group column I have groups A and B, I would like to select all As and change

Should we move mailing list server (was LXR-type source code browsing)

I seem to have two options for installation

Multiple lattice plots on a page: aligning x-axes vertically
Dear R-help, I am creating a two lattice plots (a densityplot() and xyplot()) that have the same x-axes and then 'printing' them onto the same page, one above the other (see end of email for an example to generate the graph). With different labels on the y-axis for each plot the left spacing is different, and the x-axes don't align vertically. Although I can manually modify the

REGRESSION: New "megatec" driver does't work for UPS that was managed by old fentonups driver
Hi there, A couple years ago, I had patched the "fentonups" nut driver to allow it to work with my Unitek Alpha 500 UPS. My patch had been accepted and incorporated in the standard fentonups driver. I have had no time to stay involved in the "nut" project since (and besides this I'm not a developper...). 2 days ago I upgraded from Ubuntu Gutsy to Ubuntu Hardy and got

Add printer wizard... No server listed...
We have a Samba 3.01 pre3 server that acts as a print server among other things. When our users go to the add printer wizard in Windows, it doesn't show our samba server! The only way to add a printer is by manually entering the path. That's really inconvenient if you don't know the path. :) Is there some way we can resolve this? Thanks, Tait Shrum Bryant Schools

Fedora 12 domU will not boot kernel
Hello Everyone, I have been trying to get a Fedora 12 domU to boot for the better part of the afternoon and haven't had success booting any F12 kernel in Xen. I can get Fedora 11 installed no problem, tried to do a preupgrade but the when booting the preupgrade kernel through grub (or even from outside the domU) the domU reboots very quickly and ultimately crashes. As far as I saw in the
