User-Oriented Management of Asterisk
While I was away on vacation, buried deeply in another thread (New
Asterisk bounty: SIP simultaneous), Olle E. Johansson raised a question
which is close to my heart - Asterisk's management model.
A management model which simply manages telephone extensions and dial
plans is irrelevant to most organisations. We need a model which manages
users and their interaction with the PBX.

Accessing /home/<user> properly from Win2003 Server share
Hi,
After a major fight with Samba and Winbind (and my confusion), I finally
have my a RHEL v4.0 ES box successfully authenticating against the
Active Directory (ads) on a Windows 2003 Server. I installed the latest
version of Samba in the process (3.0.20) and SELinux started complaining
so I've disabled that for now.
I can now telnet, ssh, su, etc... as any of my windows users on the

Migration questions...
Hi All,
We are soon to migrate our mail server from one piece of hardware to
another and we would like to take this opportunity to optimize things.
As a result, we would like to replace "uw-imapd" and "qpopper" with
"dovecot". The version we will be installing is 1.1.13-2, as this is
what is available through the latest Debian stable backports. We will
also be using

Joining NT4 workstations to a Samba 3 Domain
Linux: Fedora Core 2
Samba: 3.0.3
OpenLDAP: 2.1.29
I've noticed a couple of other messages in this month's archives that
suggest they're having the same problem as I, but so far no resolution
has been reported.
I've got a new Samba domain up and running with LDAP that allows me to
join Win2K and XP clients, but not NT4 workstations. I've added the
machine account with the

Enabling security on POP3 and IMAP
Hello,
Currently, on our new test server, I am offering IMAP on 143 and POP3 on
110.
We would like to enable security on both of these protocols to attempt
to eliminate the risk from an internal
password-grabbing/content-grabbing attack.
I presume this would mean enabling SSL, and a more securure
authentication, right? Or are plain text passwords just sent over the
SSL, and therefore perfectly

More Migration Questions
Hello,
I was on here a month or two ago asking lots of questions about
migrating from uw-imapd/qpopper/mbox to dovecot/maildir. I am now at the
stage where i'm trying to convert all my emails, but i have a few
questions...
Where should i convert my mbox mailboxes into? "/home/username/Maildir/"
or "/somewhere/maildirs/"?
Does it actually matter? Is there a standard

Proxy Access (Manager/Secretary) Best Practices?
I've mostly got our dovecot+postfix+SOGo+openldap open source groupware replacement working the way I want it to; we're replacing GroupWise in our organization and I'm thrilled to be doing it. I'm supporting about 1,000 active staff users (and another 6,000 student accounts).
I've got e-mail and calendar sharing working, and it does what it says it will do, but it is (go

Formatting digits in a table with mix of numbers and characters
Hello,
I am currently trying to find an easy way to take a table with a mix
of numbers and characters and format the numbers in the table to be
constrained to 4 significant digits.
Example:
#this is my table creation
> table <- matrix(c(12.34567, "--", 10, 12.34567, "--", "NA", "--", 123.45678, "--"), ncol = 3, byrow=TRUE)

Legal issues for non-profit radio stations.
Hi All,
Some time ago I emailed this list and mentioned (as well as a couple of
techinical queries) that I was trying to contact the PRS for information on
the copyright licencing requirements of a non-profit on-line radio station,
a few people expressed interest in this and asked I keep them updated. Well
I just sent my third email (transcript below) informing them that I will

Significant performance problems
Hi all,
I'm sure my issues are a result of misconfiguration, but I'm hoping
someone can point me in the right direction. I'm getting pressure to
move us back to GroupWise, which I desperately want to avoid :-/
We're running dovecot 1.2.9 on Ubuntu 10.4 LTS+postfix. The server is a
VM with 1 vCPU and 4GB of RAM. We serve about 10,000 users with anywhere

School design question
My school district will be building a new elementary school in 2006. We
were about to go to bid with a traditional intercom system for the
campus but I would like implement Asterisk at the campus.
My question is, do we build in a traditional intercom/paging system and
tie that into the Asterisk PBX, the way such intercoms have been
connected to other PBX's in our district in the past, or

Tripp-Lite OmniVS1500XL
All,
I recently purchased a Tripp-Lite OmniVS1500XL and am running NUT on a
Centos-based system.
Based on the compatibility list I specified the tripplite_usb driver.
When I query the unit I get:

battery.voltage.nominal: 24
driver.name: tripplite_usb
driver.version: 2.0.3-pre2

Shared Mailbox Questions
Hi All,
I've pored over the wiki, read through the archive, and have what I believe should be a working set-up, but I can't seem to get my shared namespace to work correctly. Any guidance would be much appreciated.
I started off using a flat file for acl_shared_dict and ran into the same problem recently reported with the shared-database file getting chown'd to the first user to

smbtar not working
I install Samba 2.0.7 on my HP 715-80 running HPUX 10.20. The HP server
and two PC's are connected on a local LAN. I can map network, move
files, etc. However, when I try to use smbtar I get an error. The unix
server is hobbs, the two PC's are calvin and marmaduke. The C: drive on
calvin is named drive_c and set for share r/w. I can use tar from the
cmd line on the unix 'puter to

<savefile> directive for Icecast2?
Hi all,
Hope you can advise.
I am aware you can use the <savefile> feature of IceS2 to save a copy of
live streams. I have several sources for my Icecast server that are remote
and which I do not have access to the hard drive. Is there any way to save a
copy of the stream at the Icecast Server rather than the IceS2 source?
If it can't be done by the server itself, I know there are

Legality Issue & Relaying

will be using ices and icecast.
Legality:

that the PRC do their licence cost on a percentage of your revenue,
seeing as I plan to host no adverts or indeed any commercial aspect I
hope to get a licence without actually paying anything. (I've

maximum share size?
Hello List,
We are having a NAS here with 4 TB (sic!) disc space and a samba server
as a file server (or better: as one of the file servers). Now the
vendor tells us: with samba you can't share more than 2 TB of that.
This is not enough.
Is that a restriction of Samba, Linux or of the vendor's system?
I never encountered this restriction...
Please help!

Maximum size of samba share on win2000?
Hello,
I'm investigating the possibility to set up a debian file server with
samba, xfs as file system, hardware raid and a 10TB partition (for image
storage). This file system should be mounted or mapped on a Windows 2000
server with samba. My question is, will the win2000 2TB partition limit
kick in when we mount or map this samba share or can windows handle this

Can we generate exe file using R? What is the maximum file size valid?
Dear all,
I have two questions.
First, I am wondering whether we are able to use R to generate an exe file,
or sth that can be executable outside R?
Second, I am wondering whether read.csv can read a csv file with size of
300-400 gigabytes?
Thank you very much!
