2 Servers different gid?
Hi All,
I have 2 servers both running a compiled version of samba and winbind. They
use my Windows Active Directory for user authentication via kerberoes. All
that works fine and I can see and authenticate as any user. Every user on
both machines have the same uid, the problem is the groups from the windows
domain have different gid?s on each of the servers. I am using nfs to export

I've been trying to get my Windows NT computer to access directories and
printing from a Debian 3.0 host running Samba 2.2.3. The NT computer
recognises my host computer named minikerr, however I always receive the
error message "the network path was not found." I have authentication

I've come to the bit that I can run cupsaddsmb, and expected it to
run smbclient to add the drivers to the print$ share, and then
rpcclient to do the "addriver" part and finaly the "setdriver" part.
Unfortunatly, it is doing only the setdriver part,

logging in NAS200
Hello,
I'm running SAMBA under Ubuntu 10.4.
At work we share a network storage unit, a Linksys NAS200.
I can see it as a "computer" in my workgroup but once I click on its
icon in Nautilus it is opened as a blank screen. I cannot see the
folders I should have access.
Doing the same in Windows XP I can access these folders.
I use the same username and password on Ubuntu, XP,

No subject
account to join the Win2K PCs to the domain. You have to use the root
account. Therefore making the account "root" invalid is not a good thing
(or I would assume). Just create a root account in the smbpasswd file and
make the password different from your unix account (if security is your
concern). Does this make sense?

Permissions assignment problem
Hey there,
I am, for the first time, playing around with Samba seriously (mainly
thinking about replacing NFS with it). I'm using a Linux 2.6.x client
with the cifs.ko kernel module/filesystem type.
I've found that I can't change the permissions on files to arbitrary
values; they must not be greater than the bits specified in 'create
mask' (and friends). The problem appears

Samba is working perfectly well a file server.
But I can't join a computer to it either via a Win2K client or using
the "net rpc join" command.
Winbind,smbd and nmbd are running.
I receive messages like "given identification informations conflict with
existing one"
and probably more interesting :

smbd reads entire directory when creating files?
Apologies if this is a FAQ.
We are saddled with some directories full of production image files that
number in the hundreds of thousands to the millions. (Yes, I know this
is bad.) They reside on a couple of Win 2003 boxes that are flaky and
unreliable. I was hoping to copy them over to a Linux box running samba
but it is taking forever.

User permissions on other users home directory
Hello,
I have 5 users that need to be able to read and write from each others
home directorys. How I have done this is by creating a group office,
adding these 5 users to the office group, and then changing ownership
of users home directorys to user1:office
However, when user1 edits a file in his home directory, user2 can no
longer edit it, even though both users are in the office group.

Users in group cannot rename or delete files/folder owned by the group
Hi all,
I am having a very strange issue with Samba, users who are not the owner
of files but are in the same group cannot delete or rename files via
Windows.
For example the user ?sean? in the ?storage.access? group CANNOT delete or
rename a folder called temp via windows but CAN delete or rename via
terminal session.
The folling three folders have the folling permissions:
