mount read/write ntfs via samba
Until now, we've been using samba to push out unix files to windows users.
With
Security = domain, this works perfectly. Now we'd like to go the other way
ie mount
on the linux side our PC files. Using
mount -t smbfs -username=administrator //pc-server/users /PCuser
works but all files appear to be owned by root so users can't write to
their own files.
I can add dmask=777,

[OT] Remote control of a WinXP machine from a Linux host
Sorry for an off topic post, but a lot of you folks are sysadmins here or
there, and just might have a suggestion... ;-)
I have a WinXP machine that is to be unattended for a period of 3 years (yes,
I know, it sounds ridiculous, but still...). What I need is remote access to
it to perform regular system maintenance, virus cleanups, occasional software
installations, reboots, config changes,

automatically authenticate domain logged-on users in apache with AD/NTDOM?
Hi!
I don't use MS products at all, so I have very little knowledge with them,
but I believe Microsoft has as protocol where Internet Explorer can
automatically authenticate against an IIS server, and given that the server
and client are on the same NT domain, and the client user is logged in to
that domain, the user is automatically logged in without the need to give
away the password

Problems starting Server 2008 x64 after added to samba domain
Hi
I have a problem with Windows Server Ent (and Std) 2008 x64 running on
IBM Blade Center. I can add it to the Samba domain but when I restart
it, it comes to "Applying computer settings..." and if I connect with
rdesktop I can see a screen saying "Please wait for the group policy
client" and after some minutes it restarts. I can boot it in Safe mode,
remove from domain

Replacing a W2K Server?
We have a Windows 2000 server with Terminal Services. It is an Active
Directory master server for a microscopic network comprising itself and
one Windows 2000 Workstation client. It is part of a network
consisting of Unix machines: several Solaris 8 systems, a handful of
Linux boxes, and a Mac OS X workstation. User authentication and other
login information on this network is provided by NIS

automatically authenticate domain logged-on users ina pache with AD/NTDOM?
Yeah, "interoperate over either NTLM or Kerberos to provide SSO", that's
exactly what I'm talking about! Only, I want to trade IIS for apache@unix.
I can still use Explorer@windows for clients.
Very interesting, though, that Mozilla has been kerberized. I knew it would
happen, but I haven't read anything about that.
Thanks for the input,

Grub configuration from within Windows
My friend uses a typical dual-boot setup (Windows XP and Centos 5.3).
The machine is online 24/7 and he often uses it from a remote location
(Linux via ssh -X, Windows via rdesktop).
The problem is that he wants to be able to remotely configure which of
these two OSes is to be the default on next reboot, so he can switch
from one OS to the other and back remotely. If Linux is up, he just
needs to

Hi all,

Could not start rdesktop: make sure rdesktop is properly installed
And I connect using krdc rdp:/remote.host.name - but I also tried krdc rdp:/

CentOS7 changes strike again.
Still in the process of migrating from an old CentOS5 server to a brand
new CentOS7.
After finally getting Virtualbox-5.0 installed and a new Wondoze10 Pro
installed it became time to shift the data from the old server to the new.
The old server is headless and I installed the old WindozeXP into the
Virtualbox4.x via the command line.
To do some of the admin I needed to attach to the windoze

Workaround for (EL6.4) rdesktop-1.6.0-10 Woe
rdesktop has been spewing error messages since the update to CentOS 6.4.
Aside from the continuous stream of errors in the terminal window from
which it was launched, there are a number of usability issues in the
remote session. The pointer does not change shape when moving over
various window components such as column separators, window borders,
etc. The background doesn't refresh within

Alternate console method for Windows 2003 server
I have a DomU running Windows 2003 server that occasionally blue screens
(or at least I assume it does). Obviously, when it does, I lose the
ability to open a VNC console. Is there some method for sending the
windows console to another location that can be viewed if the system dies?

Use freerdp rather than rdesktop, as rdesktop has been parked AFAIK, with the
last release Oct-2014. Freerdp is included with CentOS.

ntlm_auth, universal principal name, multi-domain active directory - can samba authenticate?
I posted a similar message on the freeradius list a few months ago and it
was suggested I come here. Now that this effort is once again underway I am
looking for some assistance.
We are trying to replace our existing AAA solution with FreeRadius. The
user base is contained in an Active Directory single forest-multi domain
model.
The only feature of samba that we need to leverage is the

Is Redhat / Samba the only combination that can authenticate to a n NT domain??
I have 2.2.2 on a RedHat box authenticating to an NT server quite nicely but
I'd really like to put it on my SUN Solaris servers. Has Samba come that
far yet or are there plans to?
Thanks,
Trevor.

authenticating IIS 6.0 against samba?
I have a windows 2003 server joined to my domain. I'd like to have IIS
6.0 on the 2k3 server authenticating against samba so that windows
sharepoint services can be used. I've tried getting NTLM authentication
working following instructions at
