Samba on Debian: Sarge -> Etch = broken guest shares
I upgraded a server from Debian Sarge to Etch the other day. Today I
discovered a fairly major issue... All the shares I had set up for guest
access have stopped working. The shares are meant to be writable by me
and a few others, and read only for guest, but it's flat out refusing to
authenticate anyone using guest (or unknown users which should be
mapping to guest).
SMB.conf is below

Win2003 ADS, wbinfo -u and -g almost works
I've been chasing this problem for several days. I have taken the
3.0.26a Fedora 7 SRPM from the Samba FTP site and rebuilt it on RedHat
EL5 and installed it. It runs, but it has exactly the same problem as
the original 3.0.23c version.
I can join the domain and 'wbinfo -t' returns OK.
However, 'wbinfo -g' returns only two groups then gives a failure
message and

Question on Samba and LDAP
If I have read the documentation correctly, it looks like you can not
have a fail over LDAP server defined in the smb.conf file for the passdb
backend. It looks like this feature was taken away in an earlier
release. Is this correct? If not could somebody steer me in the right
direction.
Thanks,
Gary

Firewalling, Ports and rtp.conf..
Hi,
Am I correct in this..
I want to setup IPTABLES to protect my * box..
The default rtp.conf defines that * will use ports 10000 to 20000..
IAX listens on 5036..
SIP listens on 5060..
I am assuming all ports used by * are UDP..
So I am planning on setting my server to block all inbound traffic except UDP ports 5060, 5036 and 10000-20000..
Am I leaving anything out??
Thanks..

problem after update 3.0.22 -> 3.0.24
Hello everybody,
we were running into trouble after upgrading our samba PDC to a new
hardware (and a new debian release).
Before the upgrade we used 3.0.22 on a debian sarge machine without
problems.
Moving the installation to a new machine with debian etch (amd64, samba
3.0.24-6etch4) worked good at the first look.
A closer look shows the following problems:
- a domain member server (samba

Can not grant SeMachineAccountPrivilege on Debian Etch
I am testing out Debian Etch, and ran into an issue granting SeMachineAccountPrivilege to an account... which granting that permission had been troublesome in the past.
The command I am issuing is:
net rpc rights grant LDS-DEMO\\ldsinst SeMachineAccountPrivilege
And I try running the command with an account that is a member of the "Domain Admins" group.
The command returns:

Printer Device Modes
Greetings Admins,
The howto details setting the device mode using a windows client:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/printing.html#id2552900
Is there a way to script this process? We support 260+ printers and
it's a pain in the ass. (My wrist is hurting!)

wbinfo -u and -g work, wbinfo -s works only for some users
Got a problem after upgrading Samba from 3.0 to 3.5 - have a bunch of
users and groups in LDAP and things work for the most part.
However, when people try to change permissions from within Windows, some
usernames or groupnames are shown properly, but other are not - they see
the SID.
Following up I noticed, that I can get a list of all users with 'wbinfo
-u' and that I can get a SID for
